EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Overnight Open Thread

I was ambivalent on my Colbert Report performance, but that the left has gone insane over it suggests it went well.

One leftist twittered that being in HD gave her a better view of where to put the bullet in my head.

Ah, feel the love.

Consider this an open thread.

Heck, she’s 63 anyway. Given the way leftists treat women, maybe that was it.

I thought the Colbert interview was good. Erick has a very calm demeanor that comes across well on TV. I don’t know if I realized that Redstate has a pro-life requirement for front-page contributors, as Erick described to Colbert. Personally, I oppose Roe v. Wade, and continue to do everything I can to get it reversed. States should be able to re-criminalize it if that is what the democratic process decides in each state. At the same time, I personally would prefer to vote for a ban on abortion after two months from conception, as compared to a ban from conception forward, but would vote for either of those bans if the alternative is a policy like the extremely callous and harmful and lawless policy SCOTUS has forced on this country for 37 years. So, I guess I wouldn’t quite qualify for the front page at Redstate, but I will be very happy if you pro-lifers succeed in restoring democracy in this country.

cuz Susan was “holding out” because Tim wasn’t “sufficiently for” HC Takeover — like the younger Sarandon is for….. Or maybe he was getting too Liberal with her daughter, never put anything past the Hollywood Left, because they are both ultra-HC-Takeover advocates — since they say withhold I guess the converse of being over-”zealous” (we’ll call it) and go-at-it-like-rabbits with those for HC Takeover might hold true….

And thanks for bringing this up again for me to have the chance to get the rude digs in again ;-) :P lol

Just being “trumpeted (if not trumped up) now” only following a Terrorist (though failed) Attack on Obama’s watch does this break!?!? Hmmm…. not at all suspicious!!

No doubt when it hits the Magazine stands we’ll see more, but I’m sure there’ll be some form of RACE-BAITING implication!

Current law stipulates that you can both arrest someone for fetal homicide when a fetus is at 8 weeks, yet at the same time terminate a pregnancy at 9 months with no repercussions. Serious people should ask themselves whether that even makes sense.

supposed to be funny. Maybe I just don’t have the left’s sense of humor. He was successful in mocking you though Erick. The whole segment was nothing but a mockfest. You did pretty good in not being taken in by his mocking but there’s always something that tells me it’s not a good idea to appear on a leftwing media show for a conservative. All in all, Erick you appeared to be calm and laid back in the face of being condescended on and mocked by Colbert. I’d like to hear what YOU think of your appearance.

You’ve got to remember that most TV is little more than video caricatures, striving to make incidents bigger than life and thereby magnify a chuckle into a laugh. Colbert was doing some reaching. But I do believe your assessment of Souter is very close – he needs to get the goats out of his backyard.

Lt Gov Mitch Landrieu is running for Mayor of New Orleans this year. Given that he will likely win the run-off on 3/6/10, that will leave an opening. From what I’ve found on the web, the 1974 state constitution, article 4/section 15 (amended in 2006 by referendum no. 12 – act no. 858), allows for the sitting Gov to nominate a replacement, which must be approved by a majority vote of both houses in the legislature, but because there will be more than one year remaining on the term, the replacement must stand for election during the congressional election in Nov 2010, then again in the normal statewide elections in 2011.
Any idea of who Jindal would/should nominate? The GOP has not held the Lt Gov seat since 1988 – 1992 (prior to that was the 1870′s). This person could be well positioned to follow Jindal as Governor in 2015, or challenge Mary Landrieu for the Senate in 2014.

When you appear with a left winger you know what you’re in for. When you appear with a left winger pretending to be a Conservative, he will try to make you look bad while pretending he agrees with you. Kind of a no win situation.
The Goebbels exchange is a case in point.
If you want to spend time with fake Conservatives, there are plenty of republicans to chose from.

I hardly ever watch him as I don’t find him THAT funny, but from what little I’ve seen he does the same sort of stuff to the lefties. Him mocking the guests in an attempt at humor seems to be the whole point of the show.

  • bk

Jindal can put a conservative in a good spot and Mitch has got to be better than just about anyone else who’ll run for mayor on the left. As I recall, Nagin was considered to about as conservative a guy as could get elected when he first ran. From what I’ve seen from afar, it looks like Mitch is several notches above his half-witted sister.

But does a white guy really have a chance to become mayor of New Orleans, even if he’s a Landrieu?

Certified check to Redstate. I’m not a director or an officer or any kind of official, but I’m pretty sure that a certified check in the amount of at least $150,000 would do the trick.

I feel bad for you, but the site admin has told you the rules, and that is the way it is. Really, when I saw your post, I couldn’t believe it, because I was just thinking I hadn’t seen your request lately, so maybe it all worked out. Guess not. Actually, I am on your side in this because I don’t like to see anyone distressed.

Try to think about it this way, RS may be a place you want to return to, one never knows the future, so we’re just holding a place for you.

  • Third Street

New Orleans doesn’t elect white mayors. It hasn’t in over thirty years and I doubt it’s going to start now, even if it is Mitch Landrieu.

The guy lost in ’06 to Ray Nagin, for cryin’ out loud. And this was after Katrina. Since then a lot (but by no means all) of the displaced blacks have moved back to the city.

So, the state is probably stuck with Mitch, the guy who came here to Lafayette and wandered into the Cajundome shortly after Katrina, having his flacks push relief workers out of the way so that he could score photo ops with refugees who had just lost everything they had in the world. Fortunately, the Lt. Gov. in LA doesn’t do much of anything.

focus to the point of obsession on the meaningless that holds no real consequence, while ignoring all the things of real importance that negatively effects his Life, Liberty, Health, Welfare, etc, going on around him. In that respect, I kinda enjoy his occasional returns to redisplay that bad example.

From the local talk radio I’ve been listening to, things are different There’s a lot of activism down here now, so saying a white guy actually might pull off a win in NOLA, isn’t so far fetched.

Just sayin’ from a ragin cajun student.:)
