My father-in-law would listen to this “Rush Limbaugh” every day, and one day I turned you on, Rush, when I was a young mother and Bush Sr. was running against Clinton. You have taught me so much about the players in our government and how our government works. You have been the Indispensable Man for this age.

One day in September of 1988 my dad told me “you gotta hear this guy, he tells it how it is”, I haven’t looked at politics or life the same since.

I remember being riveted to your program while I was in high school in Sacramento. I even called and got through! Just bought my grandmother the Limbaugh Letter for Christmas. She’s a huge fan. I remember once, a number of years ago, you let it slip that at its fundamentals, your show isn’t really about politics. You were right. Politics may be a central focus of your program, through which your ideas and philosophies find their expression, but what the Rush Limbaugh Program is really about, every single day, is the pursuit of excellence in all endeavors of life. It is a daily reminder that everyone, no matter who or where they are, can and should express their abilities and talents to their maximum potential, and that no man or government ought ever to be able to stop them.

It is such a simple message, and yet one that is so easy to overlook or forget. Most people are not self-starters, as you have said so many times. Many of us have wrestled with confusion and self-doubt, and have struggled to find the way forward during dark chapters in our lives. I have often remembered your example during such times in my own life; have remembered your accounts of adversity and setbacks during yours, and found in your career a remarkable story of inspiration that encouraged me to press forward. Yours is a true American story.
