like Dis-Obey. Sometimes, I think the speaker of house should have been him, that way it could be said that Democratic representatives need to Obey or else. In fact, maybe Nancy Pelosi should change her last name to Obey so she can say that you must Obey.

the standard conservative responses. freedom, less taxes, etc. etc. that’s all fine and good, make no mistake, but they seemed like they were prepared in advance with no regard to the nuance of the question. it was all a bunch of, “obey isn’t transparent. i will be!” ok… and i’m supposed to believe you because…?

anyway, i hope he wins, but i’m not encouraged at this point. maybe he’s better in person.

I also live in Obey’s district. Duffy is challenging Dan Mielke in the Repub primary for the nomination to unseat Obey. Mielke was the Repub nominee against Obey in the 2008 election. In that 2008 campaign Mielke received more votes than any other Repub challenger in Obey’s 40 year career in Congress.
A 11% swing of votes away form Obey in the coming 2010 election will unseat him, and I say good riddance. Mielke was a strong candidate in 2008 in spite of the Obama landslide.
About Sean Duffy. He is the district attorney for Ashland county in WI. That means that he is a lawyer. Most of the dunces in Congress are lawyers. And as far as I am concerned, being a lawyer is a red flag negative resume factor.
And the fact that Sean Duffy has served on Democratic Governor Doyle’s Pardon Board should cause one to seriously think twice before supporting this man if Doyle had any say in Duffy being there.
I have spoken to Mr. Mielke. He is a constitutional conservative and small businessman. He’s a farmer actually. And he is a fighter. That’s what we need in Congress.
By the way, Duffy is being railroaded down our throats by some of the Republican county committees in District 7. They have endorsed Sean Duffy before the primary election. This action is against Wisconsin Republican election ethics rules that have stood for decades. These WI Republican county committees are acting more like Democrats here. Break the rules and who cares. And Duffy is complicit in this by being a party to it.

Yes. There are going to be a lot of candidates in this primary season in all of the states who will say “the right conservative things”.
We have to be strong in our efforts to find out about all of these primary challengers.
I also noticed that Duffy’s answers were generic. And did you see that that last questioner was cut off before he could finish his question by Erick?

I’m going to copy my post to this chat blog here for you. It says what needs to be said from my personal experience and knowledge of the other candidate in the 7th district primary; Dan Mielke.

    I’m back again:
It seems to me that a candidate that ran against Obey in the last election cycle and drew record vote totals against Obey in an Obama anti republican election environment would be be given some creds by Redstate. Dan Mielke is a strong tough guy. He doesn’t puff talk. He was endorsed by the Constitution Party in WI. To some people that is nothing special. Well to me, that is the kind of Constitutional credibility that I’m looking for in a candidate.
I talked to the man for a good half hour trying to see what he knows and how he thinks. He passed my test. He’s what I would call, a high tech farmer. A smart guy but a real guy.
This guy already got 40% of the vote in our district in 2008. A 10% swing makes the race a toss up. A 15% swing and Obey is out. And in this anti government, anti incumbent, anti Obama environment, after Massachusetts, that is a very real possibility.

This polling data is current to early February

If this polling data is accurate, it appears that Dan Mielke has retained a lot of the support he captured in the 2008 Congressional election race he ran against Dave Obey.
That is crucial, because if Obey is to be defeated in Nov. Dan Mielke won’t have to rewin those 2008 votes. But Sean Duffy will.

But how is the primary polling working out? Check out this data.

Here are a few of the results from that report:

? Margin of error is between 1% and 1.2% (Most presidential polls have a margin of error between 3% & 4%)

? The poll finds that 78 % of registered voters prefer Republican challenger Dan Mielke, while 22% support challenger Sean Duffy

? In the general race, again, Dan Mielke takes the lead with 52%, besting 40 year incumbent, David Obey, who received only 34%. (Duffy received 15%)

? A major surprise was the fact that, in the Republican demographic, Sean Duffy lost to Dave Obey in 15 of the 20 counties in the district. (Obey and Duffy tied in one additional county)

? Duffy lost to Obey in 18 of the 20 counties in the Independent demographic and in all 20 counties in the Democrat demographic.

? Mielke beat Obey in all 20 counties of the Rep, 16 of the Ind. and in 4 of the Dem.

? 78% of registered voters in the 7th district feel that Congress is not doing a good job.

? 82 percent believe that there should be term limits for elected officials making Obey?s 40 year career a negative.

? 10,802 people initially took this poll with the number falling to 9,890 by the end of the third question.

? This report also includes an analysis on a smaller group of 6559 likely voters with a margin of error of +or – 1.2%

? Of those called, the demographic ratio was 35% Democrat, 37% Republican, and 27% Independent.

    I’m back.

With polling numbers like this, why isn’t Redstate exposing the candidacy of Dan Mielke as well that of Sean Duffy? The object is to defeat Dave Obey here, isn’t it?
