Barack Obama Admits That “By Design” You Remain Unemployed

“Barack Obama refused to help get unemployment down in 2009 by design so he could get credit in the 2010 election year instead.”

Many of us have been saying it for a while. The White House intended that the stimulus money, which the White House intended to use to save or create jobs, would not really be spent in 2009 as unemployment soared to over 10%.

On page 9 of Obama’s budget proposal, we find that, in fact, the White House is now admitting this fact. You are still unemployed by government design.

Barack Obama writes,

All told, as of the end of November 2009, about 50 percent of Recovery Act funds—or $395 billion—has been either obligated or is providing assistance directly to Americans in the form of tax relief. By design, the bulk of the remaining 50 percent of Recovery Act funds will be deployed in the coming months of 2010 and during the beginning of 2011 to support additional job creation when our economy continues to need a boost. Many of the programs slated to receive additional funding in the near future are those with significant promise of job creation. These include more than $7 billion in broadband expansion, approximately $8 billion in funds to lay the foundation for a high-speed rail network, and continued funding for other transportation projects. All told, the Recovery Act is on track to meet the goal of disbursing 70 percent of its funds in the first 18 months of its life.

(Budget at p.9)

So wait? Even after 18 months all the money won’t be spent?

To put this in perspective, consider what the President said in his State of the Union address:

One year ago, I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt. Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted – immediately and aggressively. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed.

But the devastation remains. One in ten Americans still cannot find work. Many businesses have shuttered. Home values have declined. Small towns and rural communities have been hit especially hard. For those who had already known poverty, life has become that much harder.

This recession has also compounded the burdens that America’s families have been dealing with for decades – the burden of working harder and longer for less; of being unable to save enough to retire or help kids with college.

So I know the anxieties that are out there right now. They’re not new. These struggles are the reason I ran for President. . . .

For these Americans and so many others, change has not come fast enough. Some are frustrated; some are angry. They don’t understand why it seems like bad behavior on Wall Street is rewarded but hard work on Main Street isn’t; or why Washington has been unable or unwilling to solve any of our problems.

What the hell? This man says last week that “we acted — immediately and aggressively” and this week says “by design, the bulk of the remaining 50 percent of Recovery Act funds will be deployed in the coming months of 2010.”

That is not immediately and aggressively. He says “one in ten Americans still cannot find work” but also says in his budget, “the Administration moved rapidly to sign into law, just 28 days after taking office, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the Recovery Act) to create and save jobs, as well as transform the economy to compete in the 21st Century.” (Budget at p. 8)

Obama is trying to have it both ways. He admits his stimulus money is dragging out and that even after 18 months it won’t all be spent. At the same time, he tells the public at the State of the Union that the reasons there is still 10% unemployment is “bad behavior on Wall Street is rewarded but hard work on Main Street isn’t” and “Washington has been unable or unwilling to solve any of our problems.”

Well, he has the last bit right. Washington was “unwilling to solve” the problems because 2009 was not an election year and 2010 is. The President of the United States refused to help get unemployment down in 2009 by design so he could get credit in the 2010 election year instead.

has been to grow the number of federal employees. Drudge reported that there are the highest number of federal government employees of all time. In addition, the stimulus monies that were sent to the states were used to reduce their deficits, which means, the state government workers kept their jobs. As Rush reported, the states are running out of those funds now. That means that we will be hearing yet again about how the states are going to have to get rid of teachers, police, fireman and etc. I say, get rid of a whole crop of the non-emergency state government employees, and, keep the police and fireman.

… to bankroll their radical agenda. Nothing more or less. They are using the money to attempt to engineer a political environment favorable to the Socialist cause.

How much you wanna bet that the unemployment numbers mysteriously improve through this year going into November, as stimulus funds are allocated for infrastructure and government jobs?

Someone is pulling his strings. Who would most benefit from a crippled American economy? The Chinese, Soros, the Russians? Who knows who the puppeteer is but no one, not even Obama is this stupid. This is willful, it is purposeful, and it is deliberate. Our Republican house and senate members aren’t even in the fight either. Why else would BHO commit political suicide like this unless it’s to achieve some nefarious end? The budget is so outrageous that even some of the lefties are realizing this growth is unsustainable.

  • aesthete

that this was all part of Obama’s master plan, myself. Whatwith all of the problems his agenda’s had lately, a good economy would have helped, and the now-infamous graph from Team Obama predicting unemployment would never have been published. This is just spin of the “we have everything under control” variety, IMO.

Hurry up and wait. Now they will make America suffer and use the slush fund to goose things closer to election time. Or until they get a 2nd stimulus to waste even more taxpayer money.

  • E Pluribus Unum

I recall at the time of Porkulus being passed that all sorts noise was made from conservatives, including Rush and including various Republican legislators, about how little of porkulus was being immediately spent, and how it sure seemed specifically tuned to come into play in the summer of 2010.

Which can have only one, single interpretation, considering Democrats and Obama wrote this with no Republican input, and behind close doors (in what is now a commonplace and unremarkable practice, seemingly).

They want to put on the air of having acted immediately and in the best interest of America, AND to consider it an actual economic stimulus, while playing to their electoral advantage in the most evil, cynical way possible.

That doesn’t speak to diabolically clever and prescient. That just speaks to the automatic Democrat instinct.

  • aesthete

Pushing spending onto 2010 was pretty clearly geared towards providing Dems with a second wind of support, and activist/union groups with funds.

But I do think that the ObamaDems were genuinely surprised by the high and persistent unemployment, and that their “any minute, now” response to those who point out the ineffectiveness of the stimulus is an attempt to cover up their laughably wrong prognostications. Again, why would they publish materials (the graph) that so effectively undermine their case, if they knew that the economy would go for a tailspin.

  • E Pluribus Unum

IIRC, unemployment was sitting in the ballpark of 7% then – which by most standards is very, very bad. But I doubt seriously they thought the blowback would come onto them even if they could have predicted it would hit 10%.

I think they were convinced that no matter how bad it got, they could still pin it on Bush and therefore take no responsibility for 2009.

Because evil is so often stupid.

aside from the whole Budget Freeze gimmick as just a lame excuse to FORCE the Bush Tax Cuts to expire without being paid for (you don?t have to PAY for somehting that costs the Govt. $0, and in fact actually brings more into the Treasury, but that whole thing is another story) and to force what we?ve known all along would be the excuse for PAYGO dodge, scam, distortion, distraction, etc?.

The next Stimulus (read: Dem. Money Laundering (PC excuses to $pend) plus “extent possible” language) package that they are already lying about as some ?Jobs, jobs, jobs?.? creation package, when it is a jobs killer, but what I want to focus on in this comment is the $3,000 (or is it $5,000 now, I just heard Cavuto discussing it with someone as a $5,000 Credit now – but either way it is NOT enough as a) Credit for Job Creation specifically. This will, of course, be the next new FRAUD to be committed by the Administration and Democrat business owners – as they will create a NEW JOB TITLE (declared as a new job), HIRE AN ALREADY EXISTING EMPLOYEE for the job while not refilling the job they left, IN ORDER TO STEAL THE CREDIT AND FALSELY ALLOW OBAMA TO CLAIM A SUPPOSED JOB that wasn?t really created. Meanwhile, of course, uncertainty over any/all other Taxes cause REAL Business owners to hold off on hiring, or worse needing to reduce Payroll, because costs continue to rise for them while sales lag (again, due to Consumer uncertainty over Personal Taxes to be waged AGAINST THEM by Obama going forth) and they have to downsize.

I know first hand this happens…. I’ve been part of the dodge…. We’ve had the same BS accounting of Jobs “CREATED” here in Michigan with an Employer…. A new building built across the street, with Govt. incentive funds, and those of us folks that MOVED ACROSS THE STREET to the new building were supposedly NEW JOB employees…. Oh please…. New jobs were created, technically speaking, on that piece of ground (NEW Address) that was previously vacant land, but… yes…. you know…. and unfortunately Govt of alll shapes, sizes, varieties, and controlled by ANY Party at any given time unfortunately have stooped to these BS tactics….. The reality, of course, was that there was probably about a dozen real jobs created, in Security Guards for the new building, everyone else were JOB TRANSFERS (about a couple hundred feet) -NOT- new jobs! These new jobs, I suspect, will just be new titles, with folks sitting in the exact same seats they always have with Obama calling them new jobs and the scamming organizations pocketing the $3-5,000 one time and nothing else happens.

All this leading to GREATER unemployement, not less?. Obama insisting on FAILed policies to be continued to be piled upon each other causing a greater slow-down than would otherwise have existed and prolonging the worsened situation they create, must be STOPPED DEAD!!!! The GOP, PARTY OF KNOW, must be loud and proud THE PARTY OF HELL NO!!!! – Republicans must be the Party of HELL NO [to Bigger Govt.] not the Party of SLOW[er Liberal Incremental-ism]

Especially since most of the “services” they offer are online anyhow. and most dealers now do their own licensing and tags….

Another is the Unemployment Commission. I have been in that line, and what “service” they provided me I could have done better online, myself, and quicker.

Give all state “entitlements” back to the place where they belong: Charities. Government (Local, State, or Federal) should not be in the business of Charity. The only thing any of us are “Entitled” to is death. Anything more than that is theft.

  • yoyo

…that we could start “today” in gauging whether the Stimulus is working?

I remember something to that effect…. As I recall, it was during one of the morning press briefings….

For some reason, I cannot find it online……

For the unemployment rate to come down just 1%, you need something like a consistent year of 5.0% GDP growth (which no economist is predicting, a rosy scenario would be 2-3% and no more job losses)

Also, a rising unemployment rate really creates a domino effect for continued job losses, so to “wait it out” for political reasons only puts you in a much deeper ditch.

It will be extremely difficult (if not impossible) for unemployment to be much under 9% when the 2010 or 2012 elections comes around, even with the stimulus cash flowing at full tilt.

Does this idiot, Obama, actually believe the unemployed will conviently forget that they were out of work long enough to re-elect his Democrat buds? Are the unemployed THAT ignorant or is Obama? My bet is that Obama is the ignorant one.

    I have it!

It’s so he can bribe during the elections under the guise of “spending the stimulus money” and save the dems backsides!

    Answer:
Impeach him and legislate that the rest of the stimulus money go back into the general fund to pay for existing programs!

    Just a thought…

I understand there is a big gathering in Ft. Myers next Wed., 7pm, at the location where Obama praised Crist for supporting the porkulus, following which the 2 embraced. Among expected attendees Marco Rubio, 60 Minutes, a Chris Matthews producer, and various right of center groups. Some are calling it the “Hug” event.

Recession is when you neighbor looses his job.
Depression is when you loose your job.
Recovery is when Obama looses his job.

doesn’t it make sense that the MORE of us that are UNemployed, the MORE of us lose our medical benefits, the MORE we support government run health care ??? !!!

By design, BO needs us to be DESPERATE so that we can depend on him.

This administration could have put conditions in place one year ago, to improve the job front.

Offering incentives that expire in one year, for small businesses in markets where there are NO CUSTOMERS (green), may make for good “sound bites”, to those who can be fooled about the great job this administration is doing ,

American’s going back to work is not in this POTUS’s best interest.

  • gator_hoo

DMV is state, not federal. You could eliminate every DMV and not reduce the federal workforce one iota.

  • yoyo

I was wrong though, it was June 30th when Fibbs told Chuck Todd in an interview….

    June 30th, 2009.

“…Yesterday, MS-NBC?s Chuck Todd asked White House press secretary Robert Gibbs when the time will come to judge the success of the stimulus package Barack Obama pushed Congress to pass. Gibbs says we can start now:”

See the video on HotAir: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/30/video-gibbs-tells-ms-nbc-that-obamas-ready-to-take-responsibility-for-economy/comment-page-1/

So, I guess the SOTU really was a great big lie. It isn’t Bush’s fault at all. At least not anything that has happened after June of last year. Go figure.

Someone needs to “remember” this interview and throw it back in Gibbs’ face. …Maybe Cheney? Or Fred Thompson? Someone with a REALLY big pulpit and bullhorn!

(However, in Gibbs’/Obama’s defense…that interview WAS on MSNBC, so they were fairly certain no one watched it.)

    whether fed. or state.

DC and VA (outside of TX which is not in recession) are the only two places in the US gaining both pop. and jobs.

Part of the Obamanationcare’s goals was to get more than half the pop. and most of the middle class on gov’t support so the socialist agenda could keep expanding.

Whoever on here is saying he’ll support a Dem. you should remember no matter how displeasing the Rep. is we need Rep. numbers. Just look at ONE election and ONE Sen. from MA throwing the wrench in the DC monkey works, and they were ready to make us eat that healthcare bill no matter what.

All Reps. are not perfect, not wonderful moral examples, not always true to cons. principles, but they are not Dems. That’s the imp. point at this moment.

Even Collins and Snowe have held together in the Sen., and Snowe was heavily, heavily courted almost daily. They must have offered her 1/2 of Canada, and yet she did not cave. If Lierberman or Snowe had voted against cloture in the first vote, we would have avoided the precipice to begin with, and yet the Reps. held together in the Sen. Had Brown been there in Nov., we would never have gotten so far.

And as to money, consider the Obamanation cronies always knew the Bush tax cuts would lapse dumping another fortune in their greedy laps but also that Obamanation care was built to engender solar systems’ worth of monies up front before the rotten laws on actual administration kicked in at 2013. They are just interested in siphoning gadzillions out of us. The only good thing with the recession is tax revenues are down and are not likely to rise again soon.

  • realskinny

Dem . office holder jobs. This was always obvious as soon as details about it came out last Spring. Something like 75% of the spending goes to Dem held districts. Tens of billions are directed to left-wing pressure groups. How any rational person could vote for a Democrat under any circumstances is beyond me. The best Democrat is worse than the worst Republican, bar none. No Rep. would vote to put Pelosi or Reid in leadership. All Dems. did. This alone should be enough proof.

We occasionally hear praise for Lieberman. Admittedly he does believe the USA should be defended and this is an eccentric position for a Democrat. But other than this he is a down the line left-winger with all other votes directed at the subversion of the Constitution and destruction of the Republic.

Our justifiable anger at some Reps for betraying the people who sent them to DC must not blind us to the Mortal Peril now facing the nation. We made common cause with Stalin, the worst tyrant in the world, to fight the Nazi menace. We can certainly put up with some RINOs to stop the Progressive juggernaut. RINOs can be dealt with in primaries as they present themselves. Any talk of 3rd parties or voting for Dems. only aids the Main Enemy.
