Let’s help Tamyra D’Ippolito get the 500 votes she needs

This could be fun. Democrats in Indiana are trying to clear the field for Brad Ellsworth to run in Evan Bayh’s spot.

Tamyra D’Ippolito is about 1000 votes short of getting her petition in for qualifying.

Those of you in Indiana should go out of your way to help Tamyra get the signatures she needs by tomorrow at noon.

Let’s help the Democrats have a contested primary too!

UPDATE: From the comments:

HERE IS THE LINK FOR THE PETITION.

NOTE: The deadline for the Democrats and Republicans is NOON FEBRUARY 16TH (tomorrow).

…Tamyra (who is, I believe, a woman) would be the sole candidate on the ballot.

If nobody qualifies for the primary, it goes to a caucus.

If you live in Indiana, print this off, get all your family members to sign it and then drop it off at your county clerk’s office by noon tomorrow. Word around the state is that D’Ippolito needs about 1000 signatures, especially out of the 8th district around Evansville (This is Brad Ellsworth’s seat.)

    Here’s the deal:

If D’Ippolito gets on the ballot, that’s it. She’s the nominee. The Democrats won’t be able to challenge it or caucus to get another candidate on the ballot. They won’t be albe to get Ellsworth to run or any other viable Democrat. If you have time, make sure you sign the petition.

  • discerningconservative

I live in NW Ohio, and am only about an hour and half drive to Ft. Wayne. I would be happy to head over there this evening and try to get petitions signed. How many are still needed in that area, and where and when do they have to be submitted. I also have friends in Southern Indiana, but they are in the same CD as Bloomington, so I would assume she has the signatures needed in that area. I’ll do what I can to help the cause.

  • redtillimdead

A statement of candidacy needs to be filed tomorrow, signatures have to be submitted by Friday, which may be hard for someone with none to get considering the state is covered in snow. So, lets take her 3500, and add, and let Marlin Stutzman or Dan Coats walk into this seat after winning the primary. Go Tamyra D’Ippolito!

she is in need of signatures in the 8th Congressional District which is Terre Haute and Evansville. Apparently they just have to be turned into the County Clerk by noon (both cities are their respective County Seats). I would also guess letting the campaign know they have been turned in would be a good thing to do as well.

There is some confusion in that there is word that she is 1,000 signatures short, but you only need 500 per district. But the 8th district is the only one being mentioned in materials.

  • youthgrunt

that the signatures have to be to the county clerk tomorrow and the rest of the paperwork is due on Friday. The form linked above states that the signatures are due on noon on the 16th.

  • redtillimdead

I’m seeing some links say Friday, some tomorrow. The SoS site says tomorrow I think. Let me go find where I read earlier and post it here.

In the very first paragraph on page 17 at the link says Feb 16th but the next paragraph says Feb 19th.

“A candidate may submit a petition for certification to the county voter registration office no earlier than Monday, January 4, 2010, and no later than 12:00 noon, local prevailing time, on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. (IC 3-8-2-8 and IC 3-8-2-10)

    3. Filing Requirements and Deadlines

The declaration of candidacy and certified petitions must be filed with the Election Division no earlier than Wednesday, January 20, 2010, and no later than 12:00 noon, Indianapolis time, on Friday, February 19, 2010. (IC 3-8-2-4, IC 3-8-2-5 and IC 3-8-2-8) A declaration of candidacy or certified petition filed after February 19, 2010 at 12:00 noon will not be considered valid.”

HOWEVER, the Federal Elections Commission website says Feb. 16th.

Collect signatures, till they ask you to leave. Get signatures on your way out. Neighbors, friend, family…get her in the primary or the Dems will select a challenger.

The Indiana GOP, RNC and NRSC should be working on this. IN GOP candidates…get your volunteers engaged to collect signatures to get her in the Dem primary. Signatures are due Friday…go NOW.

  • http://www.humanevents.com/search.php?author_name=Connie+Hair conniehair

Carl Cameron on Fox News just reported the deadline is noon tomorrow (Feb. 16)

  • ktsub

Is referring to the filing of candidacy, the declaration of candidacy is Tue, but the petition of signatures to qualify your access to ballot is Friday. Regardless the IN SoS is running the election, the FEC pdf file is their interpretation.

She can get on the ballot 1000 signatures to go with state GOP working on it (hopefully) can be done.

  • discerningconservative

looks like she is working hard to get the necessary signatures tonight. If you live in Indiana, you can contact:

    Her at 812 323 9005
    or
    Her Campaign Manager at 812 361 5442

To let them know how many signatures you can get.

    facebook page here

You can download PDF of Petition here

I’m heading out in the snow to Ft. Wayne, IN to try to collect signatures. Wish me luck.

  • http://www.humanevents.com/search.php?author_name=Connie+Hair conniehair

Look at the top of the actual petition at the link. The instructions say they must be submitted by Feb. 16

    http://www.bloomingtononline.net/directory/docs/433.pdf

  • http://www.hoosierpundit.com Scott_Fluhr

Signatures have to be in by tomorrow (Feb 16) at noon so that county clerks can certify them. The signatures have to be certified before the person can file as a candidate. The deadline for filing as a candidate is Friday (Feb 19) at noon.

It won’t do any good to collect signatures after tomorrow at noon.

  • 6eorge Jetson

if they get up and go sign. You’ll “vote” (signature) may never have a greater individual contribution to a statewide election.

  • peter_s

From what I understand, you are absolutely correct with respect to the rules– If D’Ippolito gets the signatures she needs, and doesn’t drop out, the IN Dems can’t run Ellsworth, she’s the nominee, period. She shows no interest in dropping out.

However, you will recall Torricelli in NJ. He was damaged goods running for re-election to US Senate, and the Dems, with absolutely no legal authority, pulled a switch and ran someone else who won. Remember, for the left, winning at all costs appears to be the only thing, and the rules are to be ferociously and narrowly applied to everyone else, but not to them.

Of course, what we are fighting for is for the rule of law–that it would mean something, and apply to everyone. That’s part of what’s made our system so durable, so effective, and given it such legitimacy.

  • ilgop24

is that this takes away resources from Dems ability to defend IL, Blanche Lincoln, etc.

I also think Washington is more in play than people are seeing right now.

We could be looking at every Senate seat with the exception of Schumer and Maryland being realistically in play. (not counting GOP safes)

  • redtillimdead

Ain’t this something? Conservatives heading out in a blizzard to collect signatures so the Democrats have a senate candidate who is a sexist liberal activist.

  • smagar

I know Hugh isn’t everyone’ favorite conservative talk show host—but he is one of the more popular afternoon time slot hosts. I was hoping he’d get the alarm out about Indiana Republicans signing the petition.

Unfortunately, he’s running a prerecorded show today.

Here’s a chance for the Redstate Strike Force to be heroes!

  • redtillimdead

Kudlow is supposedly very likely to challenge Schumer according to his friends. Mikulski is also talking about retiring as she has a bad ankle injury and is, you know, 73 years old. If we could get former Gov. Bob Ehrlich to run, we could have a good opportunity. Wisconsin has a large bench of strong candidates, but for some reason the NRSC is waiting for Tommy Thompson, a loud supporter of ObamaCare to run, instead of pursuing a young conservative millionaire who alsmost beat Feingold in a Democratic year, named Mark Neumann. In WA, Rasmussen came out with a poll showing Dino Rossi beating Murray by 2 points, and her little known challengers holding her below 50%. Vermont may be the only safe Dem seat this year. Maybe Oregon, but we have a chance there.

  • youthgrunt

and get as many as possible. Just remember to get them to the clerk’s office by noon. This shouldn’t be tempting, it should be a no-brainer.

As others have said, this will save the GOP literally hundreds of thousands of dollars (if not millions) in the fall.

  • ktsub

    Talked to Tamyra’s campaign manager.

If you are an registered Hoosier voter, that is outa state, you can do the following:

    1) Download petition,
    2) Indiana Registered voters sign,
    3) scan and email to: tspano731@gmail.com
    4) mail to address on petition (back-up).

Regardless of other information, the deadline is tomorrow NOON. She said they are less than 1,000 short.

  • redtillimdead

According to her twitter, she says she has heard that Rep. Baron Hill somehow got 4,500 signatures to turn in tomorrow. If true, something very sneaky and underhanded has just gone down in Indiana. Maybe they turned over Bayh’s signatures to Hill?

  • ktsub

Baron Hill would be fine to run against, he has had some terrible moments…

is that they are not for Senator, but for his House race. My further understanding is that they cannot be used for the other office. And, of course, do not include signatures from all districts. There is not telling. Apparently Tamyra sent an email to the county Democratic Party Chairmen asking them to stop interfering in her getting signatures, which has not made them happy about the prospect of her being the candidate.

  • http://www.humanevents.com/search.php?author_name=Connie+Hair conniehair

Where? Just checked and I don’t seen an account for Tamyra that says anything about Baron Hill. Which account?

    I’m reading both @TamyraForSenate AND @Tamyra4Senate

  • proudgop

    1. First can anyone sign this petition ( Democrat, Republican or Independent so long as they are an Indiana voter?)

    2. IN GOP needs to have back up plan ( I wouldn’t count on this girl she could always back out even if she gets sigs). I see no reason why 500 sigs in each county by Republicans for Scooby Doo couldn’t get sigs

    3. If this doesn’t hapen when would IN Dems chose their nominee and would same affect congressional races? For i.e if they chose Ellsworth do other Dems on primary ballot stay nominee or are they allowed to place the Dem on ballot here too?

  • Mayhem

Tamyra D’Ippolito just posted this on her Facebook account:

“Breaking news I have been told Baron Hill, Congressman of the 9th District has 4,500 signatures that he is filing tomorrow at noon. I have not been able to confirm if this is true or not I am working on it at the moment. But, we will all know at noon tomorrow what the deal really is………………………looking very fishy in Indiana.”

How the heck did Hill get 4500 signatures in just 12 hours? There are candidates who have been in this race for months and still don’t have the requisite number. Did Bayh tip him off a long time ago that he’d be stepping down? I’ll just say, this is very fish, if true.

  • Mayhem

You do not need signatures to run for House races in Indiana. This only applies to statewide elective office. If you want to be a candidate for a House district, you just drive down to Indy and file with the Sec. of State.

  • Mayhem

Yes. If you are a Hoosier voter, you can petition to have anyone on the ballot that you like. You just have to choose one party ballot once you get to the voting booth at the primary.

  • youthgrunt

as many petitions for as many candidates and for both parties.

BTW, Mayhem, thanks for the correction on the petitions. I think I heard someone say that on WIBC this evening. But everyone seems to be learning these rules on the fly today.

  • http://www.humanevents.com/search.php?author_name=Connie+Hair conniehair

    There’s yet another @Tamyra

Tamyra isn’t very well organized. =]

  • youthgrunt

Doing a twitter search on Baron Hill. A couple of people are suggesting that Hill is relabeling Bayh’s signature forms. Sounds far fetched, but who knows.

  • proudgop

    thats illegal to me nt

  • youthgrunt

Other theories that are being worked are that it is either a rumor being planted by Tamyra herself to get the volunteers fired up or that the Indiana Democrats are trying to suppress her volunteers by making the primary look unreachable. No way to tell at this point.

  • ilgop24

She is not sitting at a desk scheming political maneuvers.

Also, she doesn’t need votes, she needs signatures. I’ve contacted all the Repubs I know in Indiana to sign up for her

  • jfindl2

It is just a rumor, no way you can organize that many sigs that fast

  • jfindl2

and I have heard absolutely nothing about Mikulski retiring. Also, Ehrlich will not run for Senate, he is going for the governor’s mansion. I really do hope that Rossi and Neumann get in though, that would really screw the Democrats.

  • redtillimdead

Some Dem sources said she told her doctor and others she doesn’t think she has the energy for it, but others say she is doing it. If she didn’t run though, Ehrlich might think he had a better shot at the senate seat.

  • youthgrunt

If one of the two theories are correct, I would guess the Democratic Party is trying to keep her from getting the signatures. I am also guessing they will challenge signatures to keep her from getting the required amount.

  • redtillimdead

heres a link to the tweet-
    http://twitter.com/Tamyra/status/9163955888

  • redtillimdead

    1. answered below
    2. They have 5 candidates. They were planning on running against the popular Bayh, so anyone is an improvement
    3. They have until June 30th to pick a candidate. Baron Hill would be the best choice as we have the strongest field of candidates against him and he has primary opponents who are just token opposition and would be run over by the GOP candidate. Ellsworth has no primary opponents, so the party would pick a candidate here too.

  • redtillimdead

Even if they challenge them successfully, it will harm their image for doing something like that, and hamper the eventual nominee.

  • ilgop24

The better this looks. If Indiana can unite together behind Marlin Stutzman, I would have to say Indiana would be the state with my most favorite politicos…Mitch, Pence, and Stutzman.

If the GOP can get a Senate seat and a House seat out of this, it might be a better deal that a 5 dollar footlong

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

    *Excellent*.

  • proudgop

From Politico and IN Dem source if she gets sigs:

?This would be a complete and unmitigated disaster,? said a leading Democrat in the state. ?We’d be up sh?’s creek.?

come guys gets those sigs lol

  • discerningconservative

I am amazed at the amount of people I talked to that weren’t registered to vote. There obviously isn’t an ACORN office in Ft. Wayne. Has anybody heard if she has enough signatures yet? I called and left a message for her campaign manager telling her of my 17. It might take me a couple of days for me to be warm again.

  • clintonformccain

In the Democratric primary, Ft. Wayne ACORN waited to see how many votes Obama needed to catch up to Clinton before turning in their registration forms for all the voters bused in from Chicago.

  • redtillimdead

The Democrats in Indiana will contest EVERY signature. To be safe, an average candidate needs a few thousand extra. Were not gonna get that here, but we probably need extra. Keep going if you can in Indiana!

  • ktsub

Judging by her facebook page/comments she is not stopping, this is going to be a cluster for the Dems. We need to really break out the popcorn, she thinks she has the signatures.

Keep getting signatures Indiana! They will try to force her out, she is a self described liberal Dem, no way she wins the general!

  • trutexan

and apparently she’s being evicted from her restaurant location for failure to pay rent, in foreclosure, or some such? Classic. She’s perfect for the Indiania Senate.

  • shaitra

is running for Governor. I imagine that is why the NRSC is courting Tommy Thompson.

  • SIConservative

“Your with me or your not…”

  • proudgop

any word on if she got these sigs or did any other Democrat file? Its almost 12 pm

CQ Politics is reporting as to no surprise that Coats filed

  • SIConservative

According to Hotline On Call, she missed the ballot: http://hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com/archives/2010/02/in_dem_says_she.php. She fell well short in the 7th even though she said she needed help in the 8th. The Dems want to put Ellsworth on the ballot.

  • proudgop

The IN GOP should of worked to put someone on the ballot too

they have to have 500 people in each district who could of signed it

  • tngal

Granted the source is Politico, so for what its worth. – josh K, says in a write-up..

“According to state Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker, she gathered just 22 valid signatures across the state.”

d?Ippolito says the state hasn’t contacted all the counties yet and so don’t reflect the true numbers.

( She may be right and probably has more than 22 votes, it seems the D-Party Chairman is spouting hope and wishful thinking)

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0210/33038.html

  • cwilson

    “just 122 signatures…Seems like there’s an honesty problem there…”

    tonight on Special Report.

  • zachv

… is the probably the only Republican candidate that even has a chance at beating Feingold. That’s why the NRSC is courting him; there *are* no other big name candidates running that have the political finesse, name recognition and financial resources to be serious contenders.

As for Mark Neumann, he’s running for Governor against Milwaukee Executive Scott Walker (AWESOME) and is losing … very badly. Quite frankly, Neumann won’t run again against Feingold.

The next best candidate, who will probably enter the race if Tommy Thompson chooses not to run, is Senator Ted Kanavas of Brookfield.

Following that are the two unknowns already running for the Senate against Feingold; Terence Wall and David Westlake. I wish both of them the best of luck, but these guys don’t have a chance against that Feingold. :\

  • proudgop

I realize it was less then 24 hours but you mean to tell me the IN GOP could not have had 50 people in each congressional district go to staunch republicans last night ( usually husband and wife on 1 trip) and get 10 people each in a congressional district for some person as faux Democrat?

Really they usually have copies to previous sigs and addresses to boot. They could of saved the party millions

  • 6eorge Jetson

    running “unopposed”.

From the National Review Online, I kid you not

d?Ippolito needs 500 signatures from each of the state?s nine congressional districts. National Review Online spoke with d?Ippolito last night, and she said her biggest hurdle was in Indiana?s 8th district. ?We still have about 500 to go there,? she said.

    Sounds like a formidable opponent.

  • 6eorge Jetson

I have to admit, I’m no expert in Indiana election law…She sounds so way, way, way out of her league (at least 3 ways) that someone would have surely talked her into dropping out.
