EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Sarah Palin, Sean Duffy, and You

Pardon me if you’ve heard this one already. I’m running around CPAC and have missed the news.

Governor Palin has gone all in with Sean Duffy and Charlie Cook is now saying David Obey is in trouble.

Coincidence? Probably not.

Duffy is RedState’s candidate up there. I hope you’ll consider joining Governor Palin and us in supporting him. The refreshing thing about Governor Palin is her willingness to get into contested primaries. That’s the type of risk and reward I was talking about this morning.

Let’s get Sean Duffy elected.

Obey is only one of the reasons I dont like to admit to living in Wisconsin, others would be Feingold, Kagen, and Doyle, opponents of whom also have some of my money and all of my support.

I think that this is the role at which Palin can be most effective, she can rally the base like no one we have seen in a long time. She also energises the opposition which is why I hope she stays out of the 2012 race. We need new names, I am afraid that if we recycle any candidate for 2012 we will lose.

I hope she goes for it.I doubt if she can win,but it will make the race way more exieting to watch.Palin has the toughest fight on her hands. She has everyone against her, from all 4 sides. Her political rivals and their supporters, the DC elites in the GOP(who think she is an embarrasment)all of the DNC and the MSM.She is like David facing Goliath with only one stone in her slingshot to fire at him.I allways root for the underdog and certainly Palin is the longshot.I am glad she endorsed Duffy.I hope she campaines for him also. Her decision to support Mccain made me uneasy, however she kept her word to him. Also to Perry.I would of prefered Medina, but she gave Perry her endorsement long before anyone knew who Medina was.Keeping her word is what really matters to me.I respect that more than I would if she had broken it and sought political gain by backing Mccains rival or Perrys.

Everyone she helps get elected this cycle is another brick in her political foundation for 2012 just like every speech, every poke in Obama’s ribs, every scoff of his administration and every Fox News appearance.

Watching her work is like watching a mason build a wall. It is not a fast process but it creates a really solid product.

I’m not naive enough to believe there’s any altruism in politics, just would rather she didn’t run.

He’s a nasty little man, full of himself and his sense of entitlement and disdainful of his constituents, but he has survived other Republican years despite all this. If Obey is at risk, the Democrats are truly on the run.

Charles Cook says the Democrats would retain control of the House if the election were held today, but the trend is so strong against them he believes the GOP will retake the House in November.

    Godspeed, Sean Duffy!

    Your favorite Republican political midget?

I hope Palin get the nomination over Romney. Mitt is terrible and hugely unsatisfying for conservatives. Real Conservatives don’t like Romney! Palin is the only total conservative of the three and that is why she has my support. Duffy can beat David Obey if Tommy Thompson runs for senator.

I have been a Palin supporter since I first heard of her and checked out her record. But her, and Erick Erickson’s for that matter, endorsement of Sean Duffy, has caused me to question what factors they use for choosing which candidate to endorse in a contested primary.
Duffy’s opponent in the primary, Dan Mielke, is the candidate that ran against Obey in the 2008 election. In the election, Mielke gained a higher vote total than any Republican candidate had in Obey’s 40 year congressional career. And Mielke accomplished this in an anti-republican/pro-Obama year. A 11% vote swing in Mielke’s favor will remove Obey from the Congress. A small move in the surge we expect in November.
Also, Mielke is a true constitutional conservative. Something that is lacking in the Congress. Duffy? He’s a lawyer. Lawyers by training are adept at skirting and at times subverting the law for their client. Oh yes. I forgot. Lawyers are so ethical that it is a badge of honor to have “attorney at law” on your resume. Frankly, as you can probably tell, I feel that being a lawyer is a red flag negative resume factor. Too many lawyers in Congress already. Mielke is an entrepreneur farmer. Think he might have more common sense?
By the way, I have spoken with Dan Mielke and he is a true constitutional conservative. I asked for his opinions and sought to determine his depth of knowledge on many issues. I have nothing to do with his campaign other than I am a supporter and I want him in Congress.
Another thing that causes me to question the judgement of Palin and Erickson is that in the state of Wisconsin it is politically unethical, according to ethics rules of the Republican Party, for county Republican Committees to endorse a candidate in the primary. But a number of county Repub committees have endorsed Duffy. And Duffy has not distanced himself from or discouraged these unethical actions. But it’s only party rules, right?. See that lawyer thing creeping in there?
Mielke has stated that he would not accept committee party endorsements before the campaign began and to my knowledge he still is abiding by his campaign pledge.
Also, polling of the 7th WI District showed on Feb 11 that Mielke leads Obey 52% to 40%. And Mielke polls decisively higher than Duffy in every category especially head to head 78% to 22%. Will that change after Palin’s endorsement? I expect so.
But why dump a candidate that performed extremely well in 2008 and has name recognition going into 2010 for a new candidate that has to start over.
Maybe Mielke is a real conservative. Maybe real conservatives are not desired in the Republican establishment. What do you say Erick? Are you part of the Republican establishment?
Or didn’t you or Palin do your homework.
