Marlin Stutzman Gets Big Endorsement

The President Pro Tempore of the Indiana Senate is throwing his support behind Marlin Stutzman only a few days after seemingly looking at supporting Dan Coats.

Long previously had talked about how he was torn between the candidacy of Stutzman – a friend and colleague – and former U.S. Sen. Dan Coats.

But last week he called Stutzman young, bright, articulate and “exactly the kind of fresh face that we need to send to Washington.”

Long stressed that he has great respect for Coats but essentially said his time is past.

More and more the momentum is with Stutzman in Indiana. But it’s not enough. We also need to make sure we fund him so he can be competitive.

Marlin Stutzman can win. But we have to help him.

I’ve believed for a while now that all Stutzman needs is for more people to take his candidacy seriously. He’s clearly the best candidate in the race, its just a matter of introducing him to enough people that they can recognize that. Redstate has done a lot of work doing so, and here it is paying off with a nice endorsement.

Last I saw Marlin was leading by a huge margin. DeMint also mentioned Erick’s endorsement, hopefully DeMint will do the same also.

I agree Marlin is the best candidate in this race.

With any luck, this will prime the pump for more.

While I’m warming to Stutzman, my biggest concern right now is that we are splitting the conservative vote. This isn’t a 2-way race, and with Coats and Stutzman both conservatives, if we split the vote, aren’t we hurting ourselves?

than Dick Lugar but I agree his time is past. Too easy to hang the ‘carpet-bagger’ and ‘lobbyist’ necklace around him. If there wasn’t an alternative to Coats that would be one thing, but the is so Mr. Stutzman will be receiving shekels from my “Obama’s gonna get it anyways” fund.

Thanks, Erick. This is what makes RS so influential.

Coats should STAY in retirement. Why the opposition to NEW Conservative blood? I am 62 and want some energy in the old check pants country club party, aka Republicans.

I was one of the first ones out of the gate for Marco Rubio, and I’ve sent him a lot of money. Dan Coats is no Charlie Crist, though. Again, are we supporting someone just as conservative to make a point, thereby giving the nomination to a RINO (Hostettler)?
