Helping Ken Buck

In the Colorado Caucuses earlier this week, Ken Buck beat Jane Norton. It was close. Very close. You might say they tied.

But that is still big news. Buck does not have a massive on the ground presence yet and Jane Norton is the former Lt. Governor of Colorado with already massive name identification, the backing of the Washington Republican crowd, and lots more money than Buck. It’s like the Crist v. Rubio situation, except I actually like Norton, think she’s more with us than against us, but believe very strongly that Ken Buck will be more with us and a stronger conservative less likely to get pushed into doing silly things by the leadership.

Ken is showing strong grassroots support in Colorado, but he needs our help. We need to help him get even better organized on the ground, but unlike some of our candidates, Ken Buck really does need our cash. If you can’t, give your prayers, time, or what you can. But we need to get him fully funded.

Beating the Colorado Lt. Governor in the Colorado Caucuses is a very positive sign. Now we need to help translate that into money for Ken to turn out the vote in the primary.

I know our dollars are all stretched thing. All of us. But if you can commit to just a little, all of us doing the same will really help.

Let’s get Ken Buck to Washington.

I went to my precinct caucus here in Colorado Tuesday night. My husband and I were 2 of the 4 people there. So…Ken Buck got 50% in our precinct. : ) I was glad to see that he did so well across the state.

AND…I am now a precinct committee leader along with the guy who already was one before. (THANK YOU Coldwarrior, you’re the one that got me thinking along these lines and helped me understand the process.)

I am glad that Norton and Buck both seem like fairly good candidates, but I also think that Buck will serve us better. I am donating today.

As a Coloradoan, I am really glad that you are focusing so hard on this race here in the Centennial State. As often as I agree with you, I have to take a little umbrage with you on this one.

For a second, you had me worried comparing Norton to Crist; thanks for shifting the argument away from that. Norton is absolutely nothing like Crist; let me know when she starts buddy-buddying with the Administration and backing stimuli.

Another point of contention: it does irk a lot when people outside of CO make generalized statements about our local politics without actually being on the ground. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad you’re willing to give CO GOP candidates a voice, but make sure not to cross the line into meddling. That Crist comment almost got my “Get your nose out of my state politics!” blood boiling till you clarified, so do be careful. But no worries.

One post-caucus point we haven’t talked about yet is that Buck really had underwhelming support compared to his rhetoric. For months, my talk radio waves are abuzz with the anti-Norton ads, and Buck continuously, whether it be at meetings, Tea Party-esque events, etc. always positions himself as the “grassroots” candidate. In theory, as cauci tend to be the most organic of grassroots movements, Buck should have cleaned house.

Now I’m not saying he had an incredibly poor performance, but look at it this way; they tied. In essence, Jane Norton, that ignominious ne’er-do-well of “Washington insiders”, has the SAME amount of grassroots support.

Having a robust, fair primary is not something to be avoided, but what is clear to me is that Buck had a mediocre performance in what has been labeled his home turf for the last 5 months. My precinct and surrounding ones in my neighborhood (eastern Colorado Springs) went 3 to 1 for Norton. No one would even speak on his behalf.

In closing, Erick, let me stress that while we have disagreements over the primary this time around, we are good conservatives at the end of the day. I just have a different view of who can take us to the finish strong and (most importantly) fare well against Bennet.

and I can tell you the the support for was Buck is not “underwhelming”. I was the site leader for three precints and I can tell you that Norton did not receive one vote, the votes were split between Buck and Weins, and Ken Buck had the majority. All the talk was about the 2 candidates listed above, and from what I heard at the caucus, the votes for Wiens would have gone to Buck if Wiens wasn’t running.

I appreciate your support for Jane Norton. But, I have one question for you: If Jane Norton supported the largest tax increase in Colorado history, how can you trust her choices on taxes on a national level?

In our precinct’s straw poll on Tuesday, Buck lost to Norton, 2 to 1 – in the most conservative county in the state. While I was pleased to see Buck come out ahead in the overall GOP straw poll for Colorado, it was still too close. I was elected as one of the delegates for our precinct, so I am anxious to begin participating at the grassroots level. Thank you, Erick, for your support and promotion of Ken Buck. I will do what I can to support him as well! Let’s get a “MoneyBomb” started for this candidate!
