Stupak is still a lot better than 90% of the Democrats. But an executive order?!? That’s disappointing. I can only hope his rationale is that they had enough votes without him anyway, so he took what he could get, and that something would be better than nothing. But it does not appear that was the case.

And if there was any doubt that being pro-life for Bart was just a sham, his shameful performance on the floor of the House during debate on the motion to recommit (which was basically the request to put the Stupak-Pitts ammendment from November back into the bill) exposed him for the 2-bit phony that he is.

We have a good friend who I know thinks the tea party movement and conservatives in general are racists. I merely tried to marshall enough optimism on our side to keep people form becoming depressed, something that I am very much falling into at this moment.

The I was a believer that Stupak feared his pro-life constituents
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:02PM EDT (link)However you couch it, when you are in a fight, you support the people on your side and attack the people against you.
If you don’t provide encouragement when do what you want, why would you expect them to keep doing what you want?
Did you know that China has been losing manufacturing jobs since 1995? For the specific data, see Table 1 in the following link: http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2005/07/art2full.pdf
I agree, JS. Right now Conservatives need to sublty urge NOW to bolt and vote "no."
SoFiMil (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:07PM EDT (link)This thing’s not over. It’s both wrong and useless for conservatives to incriminate each other right now.

So all D's are unreachable on all issues? The only alternative to trying to embolden people like Stupak was to give up.
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:14PM EDT (link)What was your winning strategy?
Smugly saying defeat was inevitable?
How did that work for you?

Clarification, JS.
SoFiMil (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:36PM EDT (link)My words may have been ambiguous. If someone like Stupak is at least somewhat on your side on moral issues like this, we did the right thing in supporting and encouraging him. This was distinguished from my second point – the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I’m hopeful (but doubtful), the pro-abortion groups will truely be outraged and demand their representatives vote no on the bill. It’s a long-shot, but not a long-long-shot.
www.suvstrategery.blogspot.com
Strategy? Simple. Elect Republicans.
mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:43PM EDT (link)And in left leaning areas I’m perfectly fine with the likes of Scott Brown and the ME Girls.
And in the process we should be working to destroy, and I mean destroy politically and personally every Democrat who even sticks his head up.
You can’t work with these people. Haven’t you figured that out? And as far as the Ds who voted NO, they voted that way ONLY because they were allowed to. That little move is common knowledge to folks with double digit IQs.
We have to be recruiting and running Rs in every district. We also need to be working on finding solid primary challengers for people like Lindsey Graham.
As far as a winning strategy for this particular bill, there wasn’t one. It was never winnable. I’m not sure we’ve a prayer about stopping CardCheck, Universal Voter Registration or amnesty either.
The key is that we have stop playing along. We have to realize that Democrats are the enemy and we have to start treating them that way. When a Republican is elected to an executive office, everybody who’s ever even talked to a Democrat needs to be fired. We also need to be looking for ways to get RICO investigations going in Red states against the people who were involved with ACORN.
That’s just a starting point. The bottom line is that being a Democrat should be dangerous to your freedom and your ability to earn a living.
Not a lot of elections between October 2009 and today
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 9:08PM EDT (link)So I would say that your strategy was a strategy.
I agree with you about elections and playing hardball. I disagree that when scraping for votes, we pick fights/insults with those on the same side. If we did that, Cap & Trade, Cardcheck, and HCR would all be law by now. Playing the slow dance has advantages when you are biding for time.
Calling people Nazis and insulting people’s IQs is not going to win many battles, much less the war.

Because that sort of encouragement
Steph C (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:13PM EDT (link)lets them perpetuate the con. They lie, cheat, and steal with absolutely no conscience.
Time and again, we’ve fallen for the same con because we so very much want to believe there are some decent ones but they’ve always proven that hope wrong.
Now is the time to hold their feet to the fire and make them prove their words and actions match, not fall for the pretty words because we “hope” they mean it.

Maybe you could retract this one too...
Jack_Savage (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 7:33PM EDT (link)“My praise of Stupak is limited to this one point: Despite all predictions to the contrary, he has stood his ground on the “Stupak language” in the context of HCR .
I am not in any way making a general endorsement of Stupak as a politician—I am saying that from my disecting of virtually every quote of his since October 2009, he is a man of integrity on this issue.”
I guess what we are trying to say is that we all knew he was a snake when some were pinning their hopes on him. I am sorry you thought he might change his stripes, and that there was one Democrat left who was a man of integrity on ANY issue.
The only thing missing from his show were the Greek columns, and I feel sure they will be retrieved from storage for the bill signing.
Are you happy Stupak caved? Would you prefer that no D's voted no because they are all cheats?
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 7:42PM EDT (link)Before Stupak caved, he did more to slow down this process than virtually anyone else, and until this EO nonsense, he did appear to be a man of his word.
I do know non-conservatives in my life who have integrity.
Given your attitude, did you make any calls or any efforts at all to stop HCR?
You work with the tools you have, and Stupak was the best shot we had.
Sorry for trying to stop this thing when I could have simply whined about all was lost because failure was inevitable.

I understand your pain, and I hesitate to pile on
Jack_Savage (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:44PM EDT (link)And yes, I made calls. Lots of them. And I have not given up yet.
Having said that, I think we need to agree on something. When Democrats hold up legislation like this, it is not out of principle. It is simply for one of two reasons:
1) To posture for the next election
2) To extort more money from the bill
Again, there is not a principled bone in Stupak’s body, and to think otherwise of any elected Democrat is just not smart. To hang our hopes on any of them to be principled and stop any bill that increases the federal government’s reach and power is to be a fool. To be perfectly frank, failure WAS inevitable, because they won, and elections have consequences.
The only principle Democrats have is power, and we would do well to always remember that.
If I never vote, support, or give money to a democrat
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:57PM EDT (link)how is anything I have done different than your stated principles.
I appreciate your honesty in terms of the inevitability of failure—surprised you could believe in that and still make calls to people you despise.
Did you know that China has been losing manufacturing jobs since 1995? For the specific data, see Table 1 in the following link: http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2005/07/art2full.pdf
There is only one thing different
Jack_Savage (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 9:17PM EDT (link)I never, ever, believe what they say. Ever.
As far as the inevitability of failure and making the calls go, there is really no conflict. It was “I encourage you to vote against this bill. It is bad for America. However, if you vote yes, I want you to know I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose the next election.” They needed to know their vote had consequences.
To be perfectly frank again, I have no illusions that there were any true undecideds. To be undecided on this issue, after a year of wrangling and debate, would mean one was the stupidest person in Congress. “Undecided” to a Democrat means “I want to get the most out of my “yes” vote, and act like I agonized over it for the benefit of my R+11 district.”
If they got away with voting for the Iraq war, then opposing it, who is to say they won’t get away with this?
Jack_Savage, I stand by that statement
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:38PM EDT (link)I guess I should have been like you and just said “we are doomed’ throughout the process.
Until he entertained the EO option, Stupak was consistent in his statements since October 2009, and there were many false reports of caving in before the actual cave in occurred today.
I stand up for people who stand up. I take on the people who cave.
We had to pin our hopes somewhere if we wanted to be able to put the effort in and try to stop this monstrosity.
Did you know that China has been losing manufacturing jobs since 1995? For the specific data, see Table 1 in the following link: http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2005/07/art2full.pdf
See my reply above
Jack_Savage (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:50PM EDT (link)And yes, I always thought this would pass the House. Not because I am a raving pessimist or because I hid under the desk and sucked my thumb, but because I can add. And they have more than we do. One of the reasons they have more than we do is because voters believed in people like Stupak. I don’t want to pile on you, I want to illustrate a cautionary tale.
I would be happy to be reminded of a principled, pro-life Democrat if one could be pointed out to me. And there may be principled non-conservatives, I just wonder what the principles they hold to so dearly are.
Fine, that is an honest answer.
JSobieski (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:54PM EDT (link)Please at least credit me with the following:
I never voted for the guy and never suggested voting for the guy. All I did was essentially suggest that he was for real. Was I wrong? Yes.

Steph C (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 9:02PM EDT (link)You think that hoping Stupak wouldn’t cave was the way to go but I’ve seen this many times in just the few short years I’ve been politically active. becker said below hope is not a plan. Neither is it something to live on.
You equate my and others’ skepticism as defeatism which is wrong. Sure there are some who feel defeated but me, I’m just pissed off and will stay that way. Stupak lived up to my expectations rather than yours. Earlier today I wanted to punch you but I’m over that part of it. However, I won’t live on the hope you seem to clutch.
The undecideds are pulling the same con except they’re using the tack of undecided instead of pro-life. They’re all cowards and morally corrupt. You can’t depend on them and hope for principles in the desert of the Democrat party. Yes, I know there is supposed to be an “ic” on the end of that but there is nothing democratic about that party. They are ‘crats’ as in autocrats and they demonstrate it every day.
For my part, the war is engaged.

aesthete (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 9:57PM EDT (link)Did I imply or say that it was?
Since JSob’s posts didn’t have any adverse effects (I assume that they didn’t discourage or dampen positive efforts), I see it as having had a Pareto-improving effect, by increasing morale at RS. Paradoxically, this wouldn’t have been the case had everyone involved in defeating HCR been as optimistic: Mark Levin’s pessimism has opened an avenue for conservatives to attack the bill after it has passed (which seems likely), and others have looked at what conservatives should do post-HCR to repeal. At any rate, I have no problem with hope when it is used in its proper context: as a motivating, non-decision making quality of life enhancer.
All of that to say, unchecked pessimism is no boon, either

Sent to Marion Berry, Kathy Dahlkemper, Nick Rahall, Bart Stupak, Steve Driehaus, Joe Donnelly, Jerry Costello, Marcy Kaptur, Paul Kanjorski and Alan Mollohan:
Rep. (insert above name)
Your “pact” on an executive order regarding abortion language has as much force behind it as a spineless, toothless eel. You might as well consider this “pact” along the lines of the one Pontius Pilate made with the Chief Priests.
Go ahead and vote against the lives of the unborn. Go ahead and vote “yes”. Go ahead and as you do whisper, “Crucify him, crucify him!”
While you’re at it, please tell your staff to start drafting their resumes as they will all be in need of new jobs along with yourself come 2011.
Matthew Chapter 27
1 When it was morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.
2 They bound him, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate, the governor.
3 Then Judas, his betrayer, seeing that Jesus had been condemned, deeply regretted what he had done. He returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 saying, “I have sinned in betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? Look to it yourself.”
5 Flinging the money into the temple, he departed and went off and hanged himself.
6 The chief priests gathered up the money, but said, “It is not lawful to deposit this in the temple treasury, for it is the price of blood.”
7 After consultation, they used it to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
8 That is why that field even today is called the Field of Blood.
9 Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of a man with a price on his head, a price set by some of the Israelites,
10 and they paid it out for the potter’s field just as the Lord had commanded me.”
11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and he questioned him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You say so.”
12 And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer.
13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they are testifying against you?”
14 But he did not answer him one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
15 Now on the occasion of the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner whom they wished.
16 And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called (Jesus) Barabbas.
17 So when they had assembled, Pilate said to them, “Which one do you want me to release to you, (Jesus) Barabbas, or Jesus called Messiah?”
18 For he knew that it was out of envy that they had handed him over.
19 While he was still seated on the bench, his wife sent him a message, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man. I suffered much in a dream today because of him.”
20 The chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas but to destroy Jesus.
21 The governor said to them in reply, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They answered, “Barabbas!”
22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus called Messiah?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”
23 But he said, “Why? What evil has he done?” They only shouted the louder, “Let him be crucified!”
24 When Pilate saw that he was not succeeding at all, but that a riot was breaking out instead, he took water and washed his hands in the sight of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. Look to it yourselves.”
25 And the whole people said in reply, “His blood be upon us and upon our children.”
26 Then he released Barabbas to them, but after he had Jesus scourged, he handed him over to be crucified.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus inside the praetorium and gathered the whole cohort around him.
28 They stripped off his clothes and threw a scarlet military cloak about him.
29 Weaving a crown out of thorns, they placed it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
30 They spat upon him and took the reed and kept striking him on the head.
31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the cloak, dressed him in his own clothes, and led him off to crucify him.
32 As they were going out, they met a Cyrenian named Simon; this man they pressed into service to carry his cross.
33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull),
34 they gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink.
35 After they had crucified him, they divided his garments by casting lots;
36 then they sat down and kept watch over him there.
37 And they placed over his head the written charge against him: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
38 Two revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and the other on his left.
39 Those passing by reviled him, shaking their heads
40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself, if you are the Son of God, (and) come down from the cross!”
41 Likewise the chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked him and said,
42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. So he is the king of Israel! Let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he wants him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
44 The revolutionaries who were crucified with him also kept abusing him in the same way.
45 From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
46 And about three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
47 Some of the bystanders who heard it said, “This one is calling for Elijah.”
48 Immediately one of them ran to get a sponge; he soaked it in wine, and putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink.
49 But the rest said, “Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50 But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit.
51 And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split,
52 tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised.
53 And coming forth from their tombs after his resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
54 The centurion and the men with him who were keeping watch over Jesus feared greatly when they saw the earthquake and all that was happening, and they said, “Truly, this was the Son of God!”
55 There were many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him.
56 Among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus.
58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over.
59 Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it (in) clean linen
60 and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed.
61 But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.
62 The next day, the one following the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate
63 and said, “Sir, we remember that this impostor while still alive said, ‘After three days I will be raised up.’
64 Give orders, then, that the grave be secured until the third day, lest his disciples come and steal him and say to the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead.’ This last imposture would be worse than the first.”
65 Pilate said to them, “The guard is yours; go secure it as best you can.”
66 So they went and secured the tomb by fixing a seal to the stone and setting the guard.

earthmover (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 6:44PM EDT (link)To whom do you honestly think Stupak is a traitor?
He never tried to hide the fact that he wanted to vote for the bill.
This bill is the be-all-end-all for the Democrats.
If anyone feels betrayed by Stupak, it is their own damn fault for being gullible. It was obvious from the start how this would turn out.
The only amazing part of it has been how far we have been able to push the Dems for them to be able to pass it. It is to our credit that we were able to push them to (or past) the bounds of the law to get it done.
However, after all they invested in it, if you ever thought it was actually going to die, then you really need a good dose of realism in your political thought. Otherwise you aren’t doing anyone any favors.
So will everyone drop their "health insurance"
Menlo (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 6:46PM EDT (link)and refuse to pay the penalty come 2014?
If not, it would seem to me anyone without actual expensive medical needs (that the plan would cover) is only supporting the bill.

Troubling question, Menlo
texasgalt (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 7:43PM EDT (link)What to do? What to do? I have a good number of employees as do many small businesses. This is tough.
The repercussions of this legislation, which apparently is going to pass, will be staggering unless it can be repealed or overturned. A good many people in small business are suggesting it may be time to get out, sell out or at least cut back. I don’t think it is just talk.
It’s becoming harder to avoid the truth . . . Obama and friends are purposely wrecking the country to remake it to their own liking.
It should not be tough.
Menlo (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 8:10PM EDT (link)Don’t buy health insurance, and don’t provide any. Don’t pay the penalties for not doing so. Only if enough people fail to pay in (even where it means reducing one’s income and doing without a lot of things) could there be any chance of influencing “repeal.” It would require the effects be sudden, drastic, and dire for significant percentages of people across the country. Unfortunately, not enough people feel the repeal is worth the economic damage that would first need to be inflicted.

Please stop putting words in my mouth.
acat (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 11:16PM EDT (link)In order for not paying the penalties to make a difference, there would have to be enough disobedience to make enforcement impractical.
I’m not saying I disagree with you. I am saying I will not make a decision in 2014.
That does not mean that I don’t care. It means that, like someone trumpeting Palin or Romney or any other 2012 candidate *today*, the timing is wrong.
That does not mean I support the health insurance industry takeover either. I think, given the way it was shoved through, it may be the straw that breaks socialisms’ back. It could just as easily be the end of the American experiment – the 2010, 2012, and 2014 elections will show which way we’re heading.

Lartius (Diary) Sunday, March 21st at 6:53PM EDT (link)The lectionary Gospel reading at church this morning was from John 12:1-8. Judas objects to the use of expensive perfume being wiped onto Jesus’ feet, arguing “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.”
The Gospel writer then notes, and I had not noticed this before, “He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.”
The federal government is the keeper of this country’s money bag. It has been, and continues more and more to help itself to what is put into it. Even worse, they use force to demand that all of us hard-working citizens put more and more into it.
This health reform travesty is the latest, worst example of their pretending to care about the poor and uninsured, when all they really want is to take our money for their own purposes.

It does nothing more than provide political cover to a Democrat political coward.

The left's lie about HC being a "civil rights" is a selling point to useful idiots
archer52 Sunday, March 21st at 8:09PM EDT (link)Most people have about a two minute attention span before their minds wander off to women, sports or who will get kicked off American Idol or Survivor. That is why the left uses “civil rights” as a one second bumper sticker mantra.
Gays use it, eco-nuts use it, now HC lovers use it. It has an untainted reputation and does three things; 1. Makes the person not paying attention go “Well heck if it a civil right and all then it has to be good.” and 2. By definition if you are against it you must hate black people and wear sheets from JC Pennys for fun,. 3. It fires up that certain element in America, the true believers, who do feel government run healthcare is a right. They are the useful idiots.
The only problem with this is that everybody uses it and that dilutes the message. People like Pelosi using certainly taints the reputation because she is such a known liar. Hoyer doesn’t realize in this case, it doesn’t work nearly as well as he thinks. I think even some are claiming college is a right. So, soon it will lose any meaning at all.

Not a single Democrat in Washington today has the best interests of this country in mind because they elected their leaders and their leaders do not care about the wellbeing of the producers in this country. Democrats want a malleable, naive constituency who are so dependent on entitlements they have to have the federal government in their lives on a daily basis.

The guy all along has said he is a believer in single payer for health insurance. He does think government run health insurance is the way to go. He never like current bill because it was not single payer and it did not prevent abortion coverage. The hurdle to government run medicine had already been made. Now it was just a matte of details.
Obama’s EO on this is nothing more than Obama keeping his word. He never keeps his word. BO is a proven liar . As soon as convenient, like 10 minutes after the bill is passed, BO will dump the EO probably. After all, he said he wouldn’t want his daughter stuck with a baby she didn’t want and too many anti-abortion types vote Republican anyway.
Will anyone really care about this come November? Will the passion fade? Maybe. Obama will get some gushing press as Bret Hume noted, but I am inclined to think that this is his Camp David moment. When the accords had been reached, Carter got a big boost in the polls. He fell soon enough because everything else was in the crapper. I think that will be BO’s fate as well.
I can only hope he takes Stupak with him.

While senile Byrd is at risk, the other WV Dem senator has basically said “Hell, no!” (Not, “I like it but for one characteristic”.)
Other industrial states, represented by Dem senators, would similarly be hurt. Finally, Scott Brown is against it while his predecessor Ted Kennedy was for it.

doncorleone Sunday, March 21st at 8:37PM EDT (link)My father told me along time ago, that people are not stupid for free. The mistake that conservatives, and a portion of the great unwashed that have finally awakened (albeit too late), that these folks fear the mid-terms and the ’12 presidential elections, they don’t. Paraphrasing the “ballerina” emmanuel, never let a crisis go to waste. I believe they’ll never fear elections or re-elections again.
Just how bad to Judas Stupak get played?

STOP THE PERSONAL ATTACKS
liberty3 Sunday, March 21st at 9:41PM EDT (link)We are TREMENDOUSLY saddened by the Stupak “compromise.”? deal? Right between the eyes, and right between the stomach. We have no expectations about Pelosi, but didn’t expect it from Stupak. There is no question we will all be paying for abortions. He will also put many catholic hospitals and physicians out of work because of their “conscientious” objections to abortion.
One is reminded of the life and death battle between St. Thomas More and Henry VIII. And of that famous line from “Man for all Seasons” by More, “But for Wales?” We all know, also, that Stupak will most likely lose his seat.
Since it is now confirmed that we will all go before the firing line during the reign of the Dragon Throne either directly or through denial of medical care, we do not know how we will “stand up” with courage.
YET–ABOVE ALL HAVE CHARITY! We cannot let politics destroy that!

Culling the infirm
indyjohn Monday, March 22nd at 10:05AM EDT (link)Politics is very Darwinian. When a politician makes an unconscionable error or mistakes the mood of his constituents, he is eliminated from the herd. Add Stupak to the list of the fallen.
He now has the very dubious honor or joining Jim Jeffords, Arlen Specter, and other arrogant-dumb-gullible hacks in Congress who don’t have the innate sense to know when they are being scammed. The flim-flam artists who run the Democrat Party love this kind of rube. The Obamacare vote has now exposed all of them. LET THE CULLING BEGIN!
But what is liberty without wisdom, and without virtue? It is the greatest of all possible evils; for it is folly, vice, and madness, without tuition or restraint.

Was this Yet Another Backroom Deal to Force Obama’s Bill Down the American People’s Throats?
Three airports in the district of infamous fence-sitting and ultimately kowtowing Democrat Bart Stupak were awarded $726,409 in grants by the Obama Administration just two days before a vote on Obama and Pelosi’s government takeover of healthcare.
Did Stupak compromise his supposed principled stand against taxpayer funding of abortion in exchange for taxpayer dollars for pet projects?
Alpena County Regional Airport received a $85,500 grant, but had only 7,519 passenger boardings in 2008 (the most recent year for which there is information) according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) data. Alpena County Regional Airport serves fewer passengers than even the late Rep. John Murtha’s famous “Airport for Nobody.”
Delta County Airport has even less customers than that, but still received a $179,209 grant.
Chippewa County International Airport received a $461,700 grant, but had only 13,733 passenger boardings in 2008.
Will Stupak come clean about this apparent backroom deal for his vote?
Call Stupak’s district office at (989) 356 0690 and ask.
