Charlie Crist Prepares to Go Negative on TV

Did you know Marco Rubio had been a lobbyist? Charlie Crist wants to make sure everyone knows in an effort to distract from the number of people who gave Crist money, got benefits in return, then went off to federal prison.

Sources totally unconnected to the Rubio campaign tell me that Crist is preparing a series of hard hitting negative ads attacking Rubio for lobbying ties.

The Rubio camp is hearing the same rumors and is rolling out a pre-emptive web strike.

Seriously folks, Charlie is just hacked off because the feds are going to start taxing his tanning bed now. He’s just lashing out at Rubio in a fit of histrionics.

Given that the smears against Rubio relating to his credit card purchases are now raising questions about the legality of purchases made on Crist’s behalf, he’s got to change the subject.

Onslaught: @marcorubio responds to Crist’s negative TV ads with his own brutal web video.

there is zero forgiveness for any candidate that breaks Reagan’s 11th Commandment, especially if he is orange and his name is Crist.

There is a difference in arguing against someone’s positions and trying to just smear them. Crist is in smear mode.
I can’t believe Moe wants him for Senate in 2012. Heck no.

The narrative on Rubio has indeed been a bit misleading among national grassroots. He’s not an outsider, that’s for sure. But I don’t see why that matters either way.

I know nobody will admit it, but the two factors that made his ‘solid conservatism’ that much more appealing were 1. he’s not Charlie Crist, and more significantly, 2. he’s Hispanic.

Again, I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with him being an insider. It can be an advantage to know the system, or to have served in local or state office. But let’s not try to pretend that he’s an outsider who manifested out of the grassroots.

That being said, if Rubio is “disappointing” what, pray tell, is Charlie Crist?

This is actually the first I’ve heard that Marco Rubio was an “outsider”. I dont’ think he tried to cast himself that way. He has said he is the true conservative, and he is a Washington outsider. That is 100% true and a good thing.

Granted, I live 3000 miles so my reporting mainly comes from blogs, principally Redstate. I don’t recall hearing Rubio claiming to be an outsider.

Given that part of Rubio’s resume includes FL house majority leader, he sure doesn’t seem like an outsider.

I realize he hasn’t. But the national attention on his campaign has portrayed him as a purely grassroots candidate, through good campaign tactics or whatever else. The fact of the matter is that had Crist not run, Rubio would be the mainstream Republican in the race.

There is nothing especially “tea party-esque” about him, and his personal story is more overwhelming than his sincerity in constitutional adherence; not that any of this is necessarily a ‘bad’ thing. It’s just interesting to point out that so much of his cred comes from Crist being so relatively bad.
