Just a reminder — all this week I’ll be on John King, USA at 7:00 p.m. ET on CNN. I usually come on around a quarter after the hour.

Let’s make this an evening open thread.

OK almost ever. I cant stand Shep on Fox so having you on John King is a perfect alternative.Otherwise it’s of re-run on TV Land of Andy Griffith. Still my favorite show of all time… :)

Palin’s support for McCain demonstrates the fact that she doesn’t get it. Desperate conservative have elevated her to a level she doesn’t deserve.

McCain will be the first to vote for CapNTax. He will be there to “shepherd” Obama’s Amnesty bill through the Senate.

If ObamaCare doesn’t destroy America, CapNTax and 8 million new Democrat voters will. I appreciate her loyalty to McCain, but true statesmen put country before friendship.

6 more years of McCain will be a disaster for the country and the conservative movement.

So much for their “We’ll get a bounce when we pass it” mentality, eh? Dems lose a point from their own base, 6 from independents, and 2 from Reps while the Republicans gain 3 from Dems, two from their own base, and lose 1 among independents.

Enthusiasm for voting is up 8 point among registered voters with Dems gaining 10 and Republicans gaining 7 (we still lead 50-35 in that regard). Of note however is that Democratic support for their own candidates is down and their support for Republicans is up, so some of this gain might also be from more enthusiastic cross-over voters. Either way, this is not what they were expecting and certainly not what they were hoping for.

I never ever watch CNN except when I am on base, that is all they allow on our military bases. I am watching CNN right now looking for Erick at quarter after the hour.

McCain is not a priority right now. the left is starting to fight amongst themselves, we should not follow that right now. We seem to have everyone after Steele right now and many after McCain. I think we could do better two, but at some point you have to see that the game is on and start playing the opposing team. I say whoever does that first wins in November.

  • OldConservative

So now Lindsay Graham, that good ‘ol RINO, is co-sponsoring the latest Climate Bill which will tax fuel, raise prices and further damage the economy. Read about it at http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/a28df5a6-3b71-11df-b622-00144feabdc0.html.

These guys need some good old fashioned conserverative lessons!

November can’t come too soon!! It’s time to clean House (and Senate)!!

  • http://www.voterubio2010.com nelsa

Get your house in oder or get the hell out of the way! Cornyn is a joke. Steele is selling books and the NRCC is supporting AL Franken. (DE DE)

When will they get it and quit worrying about their “feelings”? At this point Charlie Crist would be a perfect candidate for RNC chair when he loses in August.

The RNC better get their base back or they could blow this election…..

  • OldConservative

    nelsa,

You’re correct. The tide has turned in the favor of conservatives, and the only people who can really screw this opportunity up are the leaders of the Republican Party. I’m quite confident that Michael Steele and others can very effectively mees this opportunity up. The RNC needs some good ‘ol Reagan Conservative blood now.

Painfull watching Queen Stabelius. As predicted she is blindly and arrogantly threatening US corporations.. not even one week after passage of DemonCare.

Interesting how John King gave what’s-her-face two questions on health care deform. but then he give Erick a question about the RNC party fiasco. No mention of the Obama donor that was arrested for threatening Eric Cantor. How much you want to bet he would have brought it up if it had been the other way around?

  • supadupabuck

why aren’t we talking more about Republican leadership pressuring McCain, Graham, and others about NOT pursuing amnesty? Jim DeMint should “smack” some sense into Graham. Doesn’t this dolt realize that amnesty will wipe out the Republicans forever? Does he have a death wish or something. This should be talked about more BEFORE it becomes an issue in the summer or whenever it will come up

  • http://www.libertytreehugger.com reverelth

she said that Obama could merely “patch” missing components of health care deform with executive orders?

She’s not doing it”blindly.” It’s a conscious tactic, designed to make companies without the pushback wherewithall of AT&T, Deere, and Caterpillar to just sit down and shut up.

  • michiganwolverine

I have been keeping an eye on Mitch Daniels who I like for Republican nominee in 2012. But with all the attention on Romney, Palin and Huckabee, not sure if Daniels has a chance to shine.

Do you think the passing of healthcare and the prospect of a Repeal/Replace campaign in the future, will mean that Romney will not be able to run and/or win the 2012 nomination?

I think the GOP would be better off without the three 2008 well knowns and going with a new, fresh candidate that the voters can get to know.

I like to give a little chuckle now and then.
    Here’s one for today

    The Haircut
One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you , I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I can not accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

There is a special election for Florida’s 19th CD on April 13th that has received VERY little attention. The Republican, Ed Lynch, is leading in internal polls or in a dead heat with Dem State Sen, and pal of fire breathing liberal Robert Wexler, Ted Deutch, the Dem candidate. He has received a HUGE boost of $$ since the HCR bill passed. He is even filming TV commercials, something his campaign never planned to have enough money for. I get the feeling you , me and about five others are the only ones really fighting for this first congressional seat. Have you noticed, no polls…scant news stories from the usual suspects (RCP, Politico, the hill, rollcall, etc) Do you get the feeling we know more about Florida’s 19th district than the election commission? Ah well. there’s 3 more after this and then the November elections. My fingers will have calouses.

    GO Ed Lynch

Multiple sources are reporting that the individual mandate as currently written has no teeth. There is no real enforcement mechanism and healthy people will find it easy to stay out of the system until they need it, creating an insurance pool of already sick customers for the insurance companies. What will happen is known as the cost death spiril – ever increasing premiums that are driven so high so fast, people are forced into the public option.

Stay with me here. We have all heard multiple recordings from liberals, including Obama himself, that the current legislation is a stepping stone to single payer.

This is where it gets interesting. Let’s look at option A as the case where everyone is foreced onto the single payer plan due to no real enforcement mechanism and option B as the court approach to strike down individual mandates. The Democrats win in both cases. If option B occurs and the courts strike individual mandates, then there will be no option but the public option, which has to be paid for somehow. Watch for taxes to raise across the entire spectrum, hitting those making much less than the $250,000. Also, in this case, the liberals have cover. The courts struck down the mandate, but we are stuck with the rest of the bill and an untenable situation – how to pay for it. If the courts don’t strike it down, you have the same situation minus the political cover – but when has that stopped liberals? This is also effectively option A with taling points for the Republicans – see, they tried to pass an unconstitutional bill.

In the end, with either option, regardless of how the court rules, you are forced into a single payer system. Calling this a conspiracy theory does not pass muster, because if I wanted single payer, this is EXACTLY how I would do it.

  • mschmitt

… they got their 18k new IRS agents in reconciliation. Your premise is a good one, though. Striking down the mandate will do nothing more than hasten the collapse of insurance companies because it will encourage people to only buy insurance after they need something paid for.

  • redtillimdead

IDK if you were or not, but I was a supporter of Scott Brown from September 12, the day he announced his candidacy. 3 weeks before the election for him is about where we are now with Lynch, 2 weeks out. People around the country were beginning to come around-few and far between. However, after a week, he was known nationally and raising over a million a day. Then the Rasmussen poll came out and changed everything. It woke the Dems. I think the lack of polls hurts and helps Lynch the same way they hurt and helped Brown. A good poll for Lynch will improve fundraising and exposure, but it will also awaken the sleeping Ted “Douche”. However, a bad showing could kill all the energy around his campaign. For Brown, it added energy and woke the Dem machine, but he still won. IDK if you saw the video from him on Fox ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDyBLw2FUVg&feature=player_embedded ), but he said he is leading in his polls, and trailing by very little in Deutch’s polls. With him going up with TV ads soon, that should help him build up energy. Scott Brown took off after his first TV ad. Lets hope the same thing happens here.

As the bill exists even after reconciliation. Here is just one link that talks about this: http://reason.com/blog/2010/03/29/insurance-death-spiral-here-we:

[And a report by the Joint Committee on Taxation last week seems to indicate that, as written, the individual mandate may not have any teeth. Here's the relevant passage:

The penalty [for not purchasing insurance] applies to any period the individual does not maintain minimum essential coverage and is determined monthly. The penalty is assessed through the Code and accounted for as an additional amount of Federal tax owed. However, it is not subject to the enforcement provisions of subtitle F of the Code. The use of liens and seizures otherwise authorized for collection of taxes does not apply to the collection of this penalty. Non-compliance with the personal responsibility requirement to have health coverage is not subject to criminal or civil penalties under the Code and interest does not accrue for failure to pay such assessments in a timely manner.

And the footnote on Code F:

IRS authority to assess and collect taxes is generally provided in subtitle F, ?Procedure and Administration? in the Code. That subtitle establishes the rules governing both how taxpayers are required to report information to the IRS and pay their taxes as well as their rights. It also establishes the duties and authority of the IRS to enforce the Code, including civil and criminal penalties.

So there are penalties for not purchasing insurance. But there’s no serious enforcement mechanism allowing the IRS to make sure those penalties get paid?

Given the importance of the mandate to the health reform project, this doesn’t make much sense. The law was designed to expand the number of individuals with health insurance. But without the ability to enforce the individual mandate, any expansion will likely be significantly smaller than projected.]

    http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/03/29/mike-lupica-gives-us-a-living-example-of-obamas-useful-idiot-crew/

Here is the opening paragraph. I won’t spend much time restating what Lupica said, it isn’t worth it-

Mike Lupica is really off his rocker. There is nothing correct, accurate or decent about his current rant. However, he is playing the part of a good communist mouthpiece. Unbelievable ranting about the terrible right and their ?storm trooper sound bites?. Really? Where was Lupica when they hung Bush in effigy? Or made movies about his assassination? A couple of bricks through a window thrown by unknown suspects? Angry calls from betrayed constituents? This is his case? Seriously?

Here is Lucipa?s ?state? approved rant-

“At least here it is only vandalism about this President and the country?s new health care bill, not phone threats left for some members of Congress. It is not an honorable old hero of the civil rights movement like Rep. John Lewis hearing the kind of racial insults he heard nearly 50 years ago in America. Or other congressmen being spat upon, all in the name of democracy at work.

At least here it is not Rep. Bart Stupak, a Democrat from Michigan, being called a ?baby killer,? or a brick through a lawmaker?s window. It is not Sarah Palin on her Twitter page – this woman who officially puts the twit in Twitter – posting the following message:

?Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: Don?t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD”

He’s a fool. Worse, he should know better and does it anyway. Another fool is Sean Penn, who was taken to task by Maria Conchita Alonso who was born Cuban and raised in Venezuela. What better person to tell Penn “what is”.

    http://emagnews.com/world/29-03-2010/1192.html

However, she is wasting her time . He knows better, but wants it anyway. People like him existed for all of history. Last time around they wore red stars on their uniforms or skulls on their caps.

As I said on another post. And you wonder why men poke other men in the nose- at the least.

Yeah, I saw that, too. Lupica is an ass.

I remember Mike Lupica as a frequent guest on the Don Imus show on WNBC back in NYC in the 1980s, but that was a long time ago, before the internet, before talk radio, and before a lot of cable television channels.

Mike Lupica is a dinosaur, hardly worth reading on politics, sports, or anything.

    Shocker.

CNN Fails to Stop Fall in Ratings
    By BILL CARTER
    Published: March 29, 2010
CNN continued what has become a precipitous decline in ratings for its prime-time programs in the first quarter of 2010, with its main hosts losing almost half their viewers in a year.
    (…)
But the numbers are stark: For the network?s longest-running host, Larry King, who has always been regarded at CNN as the centerpiece of prime time because he drew the biggest audiences at 9 p.m., the quarter was his worst ever.

Mr. King?s audience dropped 43 percent for the quarter and 52 percent in March. He dropped to 771,000 viewers for the quarter from 1.34 million in 2009. More alarming perhaps, Mr. King, whose show has been regularly eclipsed by Rachel Maddow?s on MSNBC (and is almost quadrupled by Sean Hannity?s show on Fox), is now threatened by a new host, Joy Behar on HLN (formerly Headline News.)
    (….)
At the same time, Fox News, which had its biggest year in 2009, continues to add viewers. Greta Van Susteren?s show was up 25 percent from a year earlier. Bill O?Reilly, whose show commands the biggest audience in prime time with 3.65 million viewers, was up 28 percent, and Glenn Beck was up 50 percent from a year earlier.

McCain is the only Rino she has supported so far and she almost has too.

I was very mad about it at first too because if anything McCain owes her. He would have lost by 15% if she was not on the ticket,

    BUT

The media would really tear her apart if she did not support him. How can she JUSTIFY everything she said during the 2008 Presidential campaign about how McCain should be the next PRESIDENTof the UNITED STATES, if now she refused to even endorse him for another term in the Senate???????

There is something to be said for LOYALTY and like I said he is the only RINO she has endorsed so lets just give her a break on this one. If she comes out for any more RINO’s then she has a problem.

  • Flagstaff

Not on the Tuesday show. I sat through that mish-mash for nothing. It was like watching grass grow. The best thing about it was having the interviewed person in studio, face to face, or on location. Not via remote hookup.

  • pirate55

…although a RINO is a sensible thing to do for Palin. Should McCain survive, just maybe he will have more of an appreciation for conservatism. Governor Palin is doing what she MUST do, for if it weren’t for John McCain, we would be missing one more important voice to be heeded!

stop ignoring the elephant in the room. I am up for all the political theory, breaking news, and pep rallies we always do. But if you really want a new idea (or rarely mentioned), what we need is to END EARLY VOTING. that includes mail in, motovoter, and all other early voting.

Sure, our troops and citizens abroad need to have a way to vote. and I believe the infirm should keep the franchise. But the vast majority of early voters are just too lazy to go out on election day and the entire process is trademarked fraud by the Democrat party.

Don’t kid yourselves Republicans, we do not hold a candle to the left in this area. Statistics show the left dominates early (lazy) voting, they have made a profession out of it. For example, they pay whipper snappers by the scalp to get the sick, mentaly disabled, transient, and the dead to vote for their preferred candidate. The young recruit gets a bounty, the infirm get to chat with someone for a few minutes, the transient might get a bottle of JD.

I am surprised that conservatives and even just decent Americans have not decided to oppose this obvious fraudulent system. Theory is nice, bashing is nice, but if you really want to make a difference, let’s find a way to end the Democrat “hidden advantage”.
