EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Helping One of Our Own

It may come as a surprise to many of you, but RedState writers do not get paid. Well, I do, and I forever remain guilty that I’m the guy getting the check living off the fine writing of others in this community. Unlike many blogs, we also don’t have a regular PayPal tip jar or reader pledge drives.

We do help out where we can and hopefully one day will be able to pay more of our contributors.

Right now though, one of our own has an immediate need and while he may prefer we say nothing, considering he’s not on the internet today, the rest of us will say something.

Caleb Howe is one of the valuable members of our community who does tremendously good work. As you know, Caleb has put many hours of time and effort into RedState and broken major stories you’ve probably read here. If he was a left-winger, he’d be one of scores of full-timers bankrolled by George Soros and left-wing interest groups, and wouldn’t have to worry about making a living. And right now he could use some help. The Obama economy has done him and his family no favors and he has been without a job for some time. With bills to pay, including a mortgage, kids to feed, and an internet connection that has to be paid for, its tough.

Here’s the paypal link to Caleb’s account. I’m sure he’d be all Caleb-ish about us saying anything, but dammit we need him in the fight.

We help politicians all the time. Let’s help one of our own today.

Don’t forget to hit Update Total before you hit the login to PayPal.
I couldn’t understand why my paypal password wasn’t working.
As my wife can attest I’m not much fro reading instructions.

Caleb, you are in my prayers brother. Consider this a small payment for all you’ve done for us here at Redstate.

  • snowshooze

    Glad to help

  • coriewhalen

Caleb, we all love you to death. I gave what I could. You, Donna and the girls will pull through – I know it.

I’m sure as hell not rolling in the money, but I do have a job and for that I’m thankful, so I gave some money and figure one less beer while watching the Final Four this weekend is worth helping out a good Conservative.

  • RichGoldMD

    Happy to help.

Couldn’t spare much, but I hope it helps.

  • peter_s

    well put, Aaron.

done on my end, as well.

we should be flexible in this case.

And Caleb is the second best use.

Not to mention making enough to have a paid blogger. Hmm, that sounds like a good job for Caleb, paid blogger.

    Man visits a fortune teller.
The fortune teller starts flipping the cards and suddenly stops, and gasps.
    What? asks the man.
Your wife….she’s going to die and very slow and painful death.

Will I be acquitted?? asks the man.

  • Bill S

lesbian-themed exotic dance nightspots? I mean – really, if it’s good enough for the RNC, it should be good enough for us!

But, I suppose I’ll have to redirect my funds for that and give ‘em to Caleb instead….

I’m sorry, but this is an embarrassment, not for Caleb, but for the cheap bastards behind you, EE, who won’t take care of their own. Caleb is indeed a very good reporter. He, and the rest, deserve better consideration…especially considering that Soros & Co indeed do pay half-witted go-fers better. For shame.

Such an indignity. No wonder we’re losing.

  • JadedByPolitics

Rush and Hannity and hope they view the link to see why I sent it. If those with the most money (I applaud their business sense) could give to bloggers on the RIGHT, WE will control the message!

  • SusanAnne Hiller

Caleb’s one of the first Twitter friends I found. He has been there to help me along and find my way on RS and throughout the blogosphere. He’s been a great boost and a serious critic when I’ve reached out to him. Now, it is time for Caleb to be the receiver. Hoping to be able to give more shortly. This is what the Right does when there is a need…without asking for anything in return. It’s automatic for us.

  • JadedByPolitics

and read them the RIOT ACT! I said all of those people who gave $40 to take that gavel from Pelosi’s hand did NOT do so for wild extravagant spending by their boss and while WE will be dragging their sorry butts across the finish line to STOP this country from becoming a Socialist country, they had better learn to do more with LESS!

I wish I had that additional $40.00 because Caleb would have had it! I will NOT make that mistake again!

  • eburke

Considering that I had made serial vows to vote for the egotistical backstabber over my cold, dead frozen body. Trust me, that was no mean feat. It took a bottle of tequila and 3 showers afterwards but he got ‘er done.

The man has a flair for writing and could convince an Eskimo that what he really needs is more snow.

  • Susannah

I gave as much as I could for now–will give more next week. :-)

  • http://beaglescout.wordpress.com Beaglescout

Before the progressives coopted journalism as a way to rewrite history as it happens, newspapers and magazines were owned by wealthy individuals and organizations, including political parties, and used as a way of getting their opinions out there. This is why so many newspapers still have “Democrat” in their name. Fewer have “Republican” in their name, or “Whig.” Now that the mask of neutrality has fallen off the progressive news media, conservative magnates need to step up and restore the old time state of affairs. They need to run media companies to get a conservative message out there. They need to hire conservatives to run these companies, and in editorial and other controlling positions. Not only will this keep the message from getting distorted, it will make the properties more valuable. Because conservatives believe in personal responsibility, unlike progressives who believe in collective guilt and the taint of blood.

I know that conservatives like Rush want to give their money to charities, but they have to realize that most charities are run by progressive schemers. Business not only helps people by providing jobs to those who would otherwise be out of work, if it has a good product it increases the prosperity of every customer, simply by producing. Business is better than charity, unless it is selling something that people won’t buy. That’s when charity comes in. And charitable or speculative funding of redstate bloggers is one of the best ways that conservative magnates can invest their money to further the cause of freedom in these several United States.

And by the way, Vote R for Repeal

of the iceberg! Wish I could help out, but as a business owner we’re in the same situation with our employees – hours drastically reduced – and our former employees. Money is getting really thin out for those of us not on the government payroll.

It’s not money, but I’ll pray for Caleb.

    Way to go Redstaters!

  • Gigi

I will send more when I get paid later this week. God Bless you and your family, Caleb.

    God bless you Caleb.

You’ll probably get a bit fussy about accepting this, and may be tempted to refuse. When you get that feeling, look into the faces of your children.

And then remember that we’re your family too. And we really do care about you and yours, even if we’ve never met, or had any dialogue.

  • http://www.thediscerningconservative.com discerningconservative

I also left myself a note to try to remember and give a little regularly until Caleb’s troubles have subsided. Thank you for all you have done for the conservative movement Caleb. God bless you and your family. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

  • coriewhalen

    Well said!

  • gekster

A friend in need, and his friends are here to help.
This is what Americans do that is great.
No government beuracrat to get paid by us doing the giving involved.
No sending it to Washington to get it sent back to the local government to be sent to him.
    Amen to you all.

I can certainly identify, I myself have been laid off for just over 2 yrs now and have been lucky enough to get temp jobs here and there. I’ve now been blessed with a steady once since Nov.

Pays about 50% of old job but bills are paid, Dogs and I are fed and we’re healthy. I can share, just sent $50, wish it could be more.

Best wishes to Caleb and his family.

I can never get paypal to work properly. Either it does not accept my credit card, ro somehting else goes wrong. I simply cannot get it to work.

  • Christine (Trelaina)

Does anyone know what sort of work Caleb is looking for? I’m in NC too and work for a decent sized company….might be some opportunities there, even if they are just temp work.

  • Christine (Trelaina)

Thanks Caleb for all you do.

Thanks also to RedState. To ditto something said on Twitter in response to this post, this makes me proud to be a conservative. I’m also proud to be a 4-year member of this community.

  • Amy Miller

…but I will pimp Mr. Howe to the ends of the Earth!

I mean, in a good way…not in a creepy way.

    /git ‘er done

  • http://thesandsinstitute.org Vassar Bushmills

And Ann is a Regnery property, make their publishers millions. But in the fight against the Left, the fight, not the squawk, RedStates moves the ball far further down the field than all of them combined. This is a disgrace. Just like all the other wars in history. Soldiers spill all the blood.

    We’re on it.

  • dellbabe68

Very well said! I thought this monring he might not want to accept it, and was thinking that he ought to get paid for his work. I don’t know the particulars but I am more than happy to help.

    but finally got it resolved
