EDITOR OF REDSTATE

The Left-Wing World is Upside Down

Recall if you will Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell’s campaign. His twenty year old college thesis, the left would have us believe, should have disqualified McDonnell from ever being elected governor because of his advocacy of traditional family and lifestyles.

Consider a host of people on the right who through various indiscretions, dumb acts, etc. the left would make sure we never move beyond, never forgive, never forget, and never allow redemption.

Now consider Tim Russo. He is running for political office in Cleveland, OH. Nine years ago “in November 2001 he solicited sex from an FBI agent posing online as a minor “.

Of course you and I know exactly how the left responds. No, Bob McDonnell, because of what he wrote, should never have been elected Governor of Virginia. But Russo and his predilection for underage sex? According to Howie Klein at the Huffington Post, “Local media want him to pay for that for the rest of his life.” Poor him.

Russo, you see, is the victim. He is trying to move and get over the “dumb things” he did. I know first hand the need for Christian forgiveness and giving people second chances. I’ve experienced that in my life with dumb things I’ve done.

But elected office? Hey, no worries the Huffington Post tells us,

An FBI agent posing as a minor conversed with him about sexual acts, and a meeting was arranged. Only, Russo didn’t stop at the pre-arranged stop; he continued driving past. The police picked him up anyway. It would be the most boring episode of To Catch a Predator ever– one where the perp shows a conscience, some second thought, and drives by the house instead of going inside.

If you search the entire article, one word is left out — one crucial, vital, relevant word. Can you guess what it is?

Felony.

Tim Russo was charged with and convicted of being a felony sex offender, charged with importuning (a fancy way of soliciting sex with a minor), attempted disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile, and possessing criminal tools.

Yeah one little detail — how could they ever have forgotten to put that in. But it’s okay. Russo wants everyone to know he did not have to register as a child predator. Seriously.

So because he did not have to register as a child predator, it is okay now? It is okay to serve in elected office?

Oh, and he wants to make it okay for others to do the same. Part of his platform is “advocating for a new law in Cuyahoga County forbidding discrimination in employment and public services based on criminal record unrelated to the job or service.” No word on if there would be a prohibition on pedophiles becoming janitors at the local elementary school. The way the Huffington Post reports it, that is not only a logical outcome of Russo’s proposal, but an intended outcome of his proposal.

Sadly we are forced to take these people seriously simply because they are so unserious — what is good is bad and what is bad is good. Up is down and down is up.

are you freaking kidding me? I know they are SICK people but ususally their disgusting behavior comes out while in office but they want to actually run a guy who would have screwed a youngster, they are really are the Party of mental illness!

It’s a matter of what the criminal is or what they believe instead of if their acts are truly criminal. If a conservative ever was to admit to smoking pot or partying too hard, it is wrong and reason to disqualify them (George Bush), but if they are liberal it’s okay and no big deal.

    I mean really?

This is just one more shred of evidence the left has no morals, that party triumphs morals for them in their quest for power/control at any cost.

“He never bothered to have it expunged.”

Can felony sexual offense convictions against minors EVER be “expunged,” ANYWHERE?

In the states with which I am familiar, “expungement” may be granted for misdemeanors not involving turpitude, after all probationary periods have been completed and the offender applies to the sentencing court. Even then, it is not automatic.

Sex offenses usually require registering as an offender for the protection of the community.

The HuffPo writer makes it sound as if he could just drive down to City Hall and tell ‘em to expunge it, and it would be done.

    Congressman. Mel. Reynolds.

This is *NOT* the first time the Dems have run a sex offender who should be doing hard time.

you coundn’t even VOTE if you were a convicted felon, nevermind run for public office.
I’d be painting his district with posters with his photo and
    CONVICTED FELONY SEX OFFENDER
under it in about 8 zillion point type… preferably red…
I’d start with his immediate neighborhood to let them know just who/what is living next door.

At the very end of the article: “If elected, Russo will also be the first openly bisexual elected official in the history of Ohio. “We’re going for a lot of ‘firsts’ in this campaign,” he jokes.”

    I. Am. Totally. Speechless. Oy-vey.

This is a worn-out, yet still effective strategy of them holding us to our own moral standards. Those particular moral rules don’t apply to them, because they are inherently self-imposed.

On the other hand, Constitutionally-based rules DO still apply to them and we should hold them accountable on these terms only.

the country suffers from apathy but nobody cares

  • liberty3

This is such an outrage! Even the Democrats should be outraged but that is asking too much. And this is the same left who are condemning Pope Benedict for not doing enough! Child molestation, child porn is the same –horrible.

In their perverse world of moral relativism maybe they want to make pornography and pedophilia mainstream? Oh, now I get it.

  • ncmike

This is where the left takes America. No religion, no morals, no ethics. The rejection of everything other than self indulgence is a cancer that that can affect and infect, each and every American. Stand for truth. Stand for Good. Stand up for what is right and reject these liars.

Your average liberal truly believes the following:
    1) The private life of a person is irrelevant if that person is virtuous in his public life, i.e. he is a slavish adherent of the liberal orthodoxy and supports all liberal policy solutions.
    2) The private life of a person is relevant if that person is sinful in his public life, i.e. he is a conservative and supports conservative policy solutions.

The liberal has a cynically stark Manichaean political outlook: if you are on my side (and useful), I will overlook your shortcomings; if you are my opponent, I will use every weapon at my disposal to destroy you.

  • indyjohn

that the liberal refuses to continue this idea to its logical conclusion. If liberals are entitled to harbor this dualistic belief, aren’t conservatives, also? Don’t the same rules apply to both sides? If they don’t, and conservatives are held to a higher standard, isn’t that an admission that liberals are weak and insecure? Isn’t that an admission that they can’t win a fair fight? If the same rules apply to both sides, then ruthless partisanship by conservatives must be acceptable. If ruthless partisanship leads conservatives to adopt all available means to defeat the liberal program and destroy liberal poiticians, then this must be acceptable as well. But is a no-holds-barred fight what they really want? Perhaps rules are a maleable construct, and can change any time at the whim of either contending party? But that concept leads to chaos, which benefits no one.
I had better stop now. I could go on and on. If you are not a liberal, you get my point.
