The NRSC’s Latest Star Can’t Raise Money. Coats is Toast.

Not only did Dan Coats miss the filing deadline for his financial disclosures, he also failed to raise as much money as people were expecting.

Doing nothing to tamp down expectations, the low side of the Coats haul was expected to be $500,000.00 and the high side to be $1 million. He only made it to $379,000.00.

On the other hand, Marlin Stutzman keeps picking up endorsements in Indiana, with more of the state legislature and Republican leaders in the state backing him.

Marlin’s is the next major Senate primary on the calendar. We need to help him get across the finish line.

Give what you can.

Coats raised more this quarter (more than double!) what Stutzman raised all last year, and he’s been in the race since July! I wouldn’t mention Coats’ fundraising and say it shows he is toast. If this shows Coats is toast, then Stutzman is already out!

How much did the other candidates bring in?

Conservative voters have got to coalesce around one candidate in this primary. We have 4 freaking candidates opposing Dan Coats for the GOP nod and they are all splitting the conservative base. At some point, one of these four is going to have to step up. Conservatives need to pick a guy and go with him to beat Coats. I’d prefer Stutzman, but if Hostettler is the closest guy to Coats the week before the primary, I might have to vote for him.

Stutzman, HALF of Coats’ with 125k. Hostettler probably around that b/c he has always been a crappy fundraisier. The rest had less than 100k this quarter. Coats leads overall fundraising, even if you combine Stutzman’s fundraising from the last 9 months, unless Hostettler shocks us.

I’m sorry, but Coats is more conservative than him. He voted AGAINST the Iraq War. We do not need a Republican senator against the Iraq War. I can see supporting Stutzman over Coats, I do not, but I could see why someone would. I can’t see why someone would support Hostettler over Coats.

Apparently John Kasich is $475k short from their “personal goal” according to a letter that I got the other day regarding the upcoming primary. That surprises me, as he was very popular as a state rep. Although I know Strickland has been repeating the Lehman Bros meme ad nauseum.

I know some of you won’t like this. But Paul’s money bomb machine is now coming in to help Hostettler and you can bet they will easily and quickly give Hostettler more money than anyone else.

Really, you guys need to stop the Paul hating. We are all agreeing on most things. We can honorably disagree where we do. But we are all fighting big government.
