What does the NRSC Have Against Marco Rubio?

If you search the NRSC’s website using the NRSC’s own search engine, there are many words you will not find. But there is one pretty doggone important word you should find that you won’t.

That word?

RUBIO.

Search the Florida race and you’ll see a picture of the Democrat challenger in the race, Kendrick Meeks. You’ll see a picture of Florida’s Democrat Senator Bill Nelson. You’ll even see a picture of Charlie Crist. But Rubio?

Nope.

Search the website. You’ll find nothing about Rubio.

rubionrsc.png

Do an actual Google search and you’ll only find three things about Rubio — all linking to John Cornyn’s statement from months ago that the NRSC would not be supporting Rubio.

And therein lies the rub. With a daily drumbeat of machinations that Charlie Crist is about to leave the Republican Party, the NRSC has nothing up on Marco Rubio. Nothing. No mention. No picture. No links.

Even Chuck DeVore gets his picture up, despite the NRSC weighing in on behalf of Carly Fiorina. The only two other races like this are Utah and Arizona with Mike Lee, the front runner in Utah, and J. D. Hayworth the challenger in Arizona both being totally ignored. Of course they, unlike Rubio, are challenging incumbent Republicans.

Given this year’s political dynamics, the NRSC will probably win some seats in spite of themselves. But it looks like they are trying to lose Florida.

Erick-I wrote this in November and it may explain why the NRSC and Cornyn refuse to acknowledge Rubio,

and asked why Marco Rubio wasn’t on the florida page of candidates. they said because they had already endorsed Crist. and so I asked why in other states that wasnt the issue.

    Their response?

“The NRSC does not endorse candidates prior to the primaries, but in Florida’s case we endorsed Gov. Crist because he seemed the most electable at the time.”

“At the time.” That kind of reasoning is what is going to kick them in the foot.

It is pretty clear given the list of prominent republican senators in the news that they are willing to “use” conservatives but do not want to embrace their values.

First of all we have Sen. Cornyn and his actions (not his words) with respect to promoting candidates that have a reputation for compromise and neo-progressivism.

Then you have Sen. Graham pushing to expand the size of our already bloated federal government through Cap and Trade.

Next is Sen. Coburn chastising a constituent because she spends too much time listening to Fox News and actually believing that Speaker Pelosi is a bad person. I have a question and a comment for Sen. Coburn.

If a politician knowingly promotes a lie about a political opponent solely for political gain, how is that person a “good” person? In the business world employees that are eager to step on anyone in an effort to promote themselves are despised. Yet isn’t that exactly what Speaker Pelosi did when she accused the previous president of “lying us into war”? And now the comment Sen. Coburn, It bothers me that politicians in Washington DC actually see no problem with this type of action. I do not believe it is “good” or acceptable that any politician of either party practice it.

Finally I believe that I understand why republicans and democrats are not interested in conservative ideals. They enjoy the power and prestige that their position offers them. But if conservative ideals succeed, they will have to give up some of that power. This is why we see members of both parties part of this senatorial “collegial club”

    1. NRSC unwisely rushes to endorse Crist

    2. Rubio catches fire, wins straw poll after straw poll, leaving Crist behind

    3. NRSC tries to figure out a way to backpedal, fails

    4. Crist threatens NRSC with a 3rd party run if they start to talk up Rubio

    5. Result: Crist’s orange face still plastered all over NRSC site, Rubio ignored, NRSC credibility shredded

    than you will for “smart”.

The GOP needs to stop worrying about a three-party race and start worrying about being one of the three.

and we all I hope learned that there is NO SUCH THING AS A PRO-LIFE DEMOCRATE…. The leadership of the Rubs has made up it collective mind that they will support a certain person. The want to stick their collective heads in the sand and bring out the old moderate crap. Why do we who think in terms of limited government and getting the country off the welfare handout dole also be the ones who moderate or soft up or understand the situation better. I am tired of it ! Ever notice that it when it comes to world leaders the more they butcher and kill the more “Progressive” love them and respect them. Ever notice that they never soften their stand on these types of issues.

The time for playing at leading is over. If you want to be respected you have do something worth respecting and right now I have no respect for the establishment. Either party. Both make me sick and I want to vomit…

  • duke90

They should have pulled Crist aside long ago and counseled him to step aside. Instead, they’ve given him just enough of a lifeline to keep going, and he is now likely to make this a three way battle.

Afterwards, they will try to paint it as conservatives ruining the party, rather than another in a growing trend of moderates being unable to accept the will of the people. It is just awful, awful leadership.

  • Xasteius

How much time does Crist have for this option? Either way, we need to fundraise and work like we’re five points behind.

The NRSC is not the only GOP group taking sides in primaries. The NRCC is doing this stuff too. Out here in Oregon we’re fighting the same thing in OR-5. NRCC endorsing a RINO State Rep. in the primary. Read about how this works at www.moocountynews.com “The Real Young Gun”, “MOOCountyNews Endorses Fred Thompson” and “Picking Winners and Losers”.

  • Lycurgus

because he has emerged outside of their power apperatus, and because of it, he (and what he represents) pose a latent threat to the self-anointed seers of the Republican party in their domed offices.

    .

  • bannor

has till 4/30 that’s the dead line. In florida you can’t lose a primary then run as an independent. so if he’s gonna jump and i think he is he’ll do it right before that deadline.

  • disintelligentsia

Before posting, you might have tried searching Crist’s name. His name doesn’t show in the NRSC’s search either – even though he’s listed as a candidate in their Florida page. Clearly something’s off about the way their site gets indexed. Devore and Fiorina get the same number of hits – 3 each for the same three bulletins that mention each of the candidates names. Campbell had 5 hits, but one was for Ohio’s SOS Jane Campbell and the other was a general article about criticism of the House Budget Committee that quotes Campbell as one of a number of politicians who criticized it.

Basically, none of the content related to the actual campaigns was indexed. So basically, it comes down to the fact that the NRSC’s webmaster has his head up his @$$ because none of the site’s substantive content is indexed.

None of this takes away from the fact that they list Crist as a candidate, but not Rubio. You can’t deny that kind of stupidity.

  • jerry39

and I hope the party realizes the danger this places them in. This issue just highlights the importance of continuing to pressure the party from the outside (tea party) working our way inside, and then changing the party from the inside.

Many at Redstate take a very hard line against any conservative running as an independent or 3rd party against a moderate R. I think this is right for the most part.

On the other hand the party hacks have been telling us for years that we HAVE to run moderates, because conservatives can’t win. Think McCain. They have been wrong for the most part.

The problem is that in some cases we have common sense reality that if a moderate is in a position to win, then we dont give it to a liberal by voting third party just to spite the moderate. But in other cases, we have a moderate to liberal party aparatus that really wants the moderate to liberal to win, and so pretends that only moderate to liberals can win. We have something like that in Ohio with Kevin Dewine who shuns the tea party, pokes sticks at conservatives, and who as head of the State GOP just spent thousands on mailers endorsing his preffered choices for state central commitee, which of course elects his position. Not only that, he appears to be endorsing against incumbants who voted against him, and he is endorsing in open seats, and there does not even appear to have been a vote by the actual comitee- just his personal choices!

I digress, the point is that Conservatism is, has been, and will be very very defensible and it’s time we start realizing that many of those who make excuses or justifications for liberal and moderate R candidates are simply liberal and moderate themselves and they need to be gone. This is why insiders are shunning the tea party. They hate the loss of control and the loss of the ability to have Republican mean whatever they want it to mean.

If Charlie Christ were to run as an independent and essentially pull a Dede Scozzafava then we better hear absolute outrage from every corner of the national party.

I mean, after all she’s a NICE person don’t ya know?? You should get to know her! AND I hear she’s real nice to her cats too!

  • RedBeard

The site gives his face a large and prominent position on the home page, all cutely twittered and facebooked and everything.

  • Doc Holliday

at that time he was loved here. When he proved to be a statist over internet gambling and other issues I knew he was not to be admired. Its nice to be early, but better when the rest catch up fast.

  • davesinsanantonio

It is save your own butt politics, and to heck with the people. The fact that Crist is willing to jump ship shows just how out of touch the heads of the party are with reality. I think they listen to their own speeches too much, and since they love the sound of their own voice, they accept whatever they say as true (if they actually even listen to themselves.) It usually sounds like they are just playing the old standard record again, and their eyes often look like the brain is not connected. Just pick a phrase in the question and give a pablum “answer” that doesn’t make the point.
After we win in November we need to clean house so that we do not lose the momentum in 2012.

  • davesinsanantonio

They will try to give him bad committee assignment, and will ignore any bills he proposes. They will probably “forget” to tell him things so that he makes mistakes and looks bad. Then they will say, “see, we told you he shouldn’t be here”. After November we need to put pressure on them to get it straight, and to start listening. If they don’t, we need to start now to groom their conservative replacements. Cornyn is not a conservative.

  • davesinsanantonio

at Rubio for “splitting the party”. Along with side comments about how conservatives want too much “purity”, and how that will not invite indys into the “big tent”. They will blame everyone but themselves. And they will ignore the fact that many Tea Partiers are independents who have come to believe in conservative principles and now feel more comfortable with Republicans than with the Dems. If they don’t soon wise up they will push those new conservatives right back out of their big fat tent!

  • http://www.voteforteri2010.com teridavisnewman

The Republicans don’t have anything about my race in IL 12 either, but I’m going to win. The people are in a blind rage over my opponent lying to them for days and then doing exactly what he swore up and down that he wouldn’t do–and he voted for the health care bill against the wishes of close to 70% of the district. It’s going to cost him his seat–he won’t even come out of his office and is hiding from the people–while my campaign yard signs sprout like tulips on the street WHERE HE LIVES. You really have to tick off the electorate to have the pleasure of driving past SEVEN of my signs on the way home–when even your neighbors won’t support you that’s a serious sign that you’re in trouble!

  • allacrossamerica

It just goes to show the media aren’t the only ones ignoring the PEOPLE. It cracks me up when the media (Pravda & Task as I refer to them) portrays the “Tea Party” as an arm of the Republican party. I, a former GOP supporter, am just as pissed at them as I am the DemocRATS. It’s all one big club in DC and the people aren’t invited.

We’ll see about that come November. We the People, will NOT be ignored. These people work for us and apparently they have forgotten that in both parties.

  • http://www.libertytreehugger.com reverelth

Will Crist disappear from the NRSC website like a vampire? Will the NRSC add arrogance to insult and pretend they can unring a bell?

  • jerry39

I’m listening to Fox and Friends this morning on the drive in and they are interviewing Sue Lowden who has a double digit lead over Harry Reid in Nevada as the Rep. frontrunner and who was recently endorsed b the tea party.

So they ask her like 3 times if she is concerned about splitting the vote among conservatives and giving the race to Harry Reid, when she is running in the Republican primary. She keeps telling them that that is what primaries are for, and there is no issue of splitting the vote – but they act like they don’t understand.

I am here in Cincinnnati and Sean Hannity was to do his show live from the tax day tea party event yesterday. He was here, he was on the radio with Billl Cunningham promoting the event, and then suddenly several hours before the event, he cancels and leaves before his book signing was to begin. Fox has cited concern that our local tea party (which will be lucky to break even on the event with a $5 ticket price) was profiting from his appearance and so they pulled out.

Combine that with generalized increase in negative diaries about the tea parties here at Redstate, and I am concerned that the powers that be in the R party are starting a coordinated effort to take out the tea parties.

Maybe I am just paranoid, I hope so.

  • DirtyDave

Cornyn is an ultra-maroon. It is no more complicated than that. He likes the go along moderate Republican types because he thinks that is the best way to keep his pitiful rear end in Washington.

That boy has gone native. He now thinks his job is to represent Washington to Texas, not Texas to Washington and clowns like Crist he seems to be comfortable around.

Heavens to mercy should he associate with any Republican types that have conservative ideas. Everybody in Washington knows that those don’t sell well anywhere. Those types probably give him a headache.

Maybe I will be fair. He just has no eye for talent or a brain for ideas.

Cornyn is an embarrassment to Texas. Time for him to be gone. Just sit in the corner and vote conservative, Big John. That is all you have to do for the next four years. If you are not sure what is good conservatism, check with Rubio when he is Florida’s senator.

  • trutexan

he should tell the NRSC to take a flying leap.

Marco, you’ve done this without them and if you stay true to your campaign, you don’t need them. Remember their snub and never cowtow to them while serving Florida. Your voters will thank you for it by keeping you in office as long as you care to serve. I’m going to make sure that voters in Texas know how badly Cornyn has behaved come next election too.

Crist just vetoed a bill yesterday that would make teachers actually be accountable for their performance. He voted like the RINO he truly is.

  • awunsch

to know who is working for or against what you want. This article was useful in that I did (although supporting Rubio) not know that the NRSC was not supporting Rubio. I did know that they supported Crist going in (same mistake that the NRCC made in NY) but thought no more of it. The lack of principle and leadership with which we view the current repub leadership only reinforces the notion that once, we dump the democrats (to stop the move toward socialism) we need to throw out the incumbent republicans. We need term limits.

  • wayneepalmer

The great problem with the Republican party is all of the swine that infest it at the top.

Simply put, you have a cabal of Country Club elites who are way more comfortable with strolling the links with Teddy Kennedy AND dictating napkin-folding styles to their illegal immigrant servants than they are in either listening to ANYTHING said by a real American or, GOD FORBID..having them try to join the Club…hence the hatred for folks like Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh (our own Rodney Dangerfield).

The fact is the leadership of the Republican party is right out of Caddyshack…and swine like McCain and Christ fill in real nicely for the Ted knight character.

I suspect that will make Glenn Beck the “Bill Murray guy” part that blows up the whole Club … at least that is my fervent prayer!!

  • GenEarly

DITTO!! US District 10 Florida has a long time pork barrel republican that voted for all the previous Bush era spending running for yet another term. But there is a primary opponent if you want to make a difference. www.forcadeforcongress.com

  • renny

Reps. should oppose this abomination as they did Obamantioncare.

  • renny

as part of the mix. If Crist cannot be convinced to withdraw and he wins the primary, he should be backed for the election, as long as he caucuses with Reps.

Reps. see the numbers in their favcor. They have not perceived the activism and anger of the electorate as reflected in the tea parties and anti-tax protests. Reps. have to be educated over or removed from the “leadership” positions. Steele is an example, because altho’ a black “diversity” figurehead, he jets around and restaurants around like the president of the country club, an image of Reps. that is so ingrained that its removal is like surgery.

  • GenEarly

make me sick, but “conservatives” in name only are worse. Trust very few R Senators, they will stab you in the back after the 2010 elections.
McCain,Graham, Snowe, Collins, Lugar, Voinvitch, Coryn,Kyle, will give Amnesty to Illegals, and compromise on Obamacare, and Cap& Trade all in bi-partisanship!!!! Vote them out!!!!! at every opportunity.

Democrats never are bi-partisan. Are R Senators clueless? NO, they are in on the fix. Take back the House with true conservatives and stop the madness in Washington. 2010 the line in the sand.

  • GenEarly

will stupidly assume hatred of democrat/socialism will make them winners by default, WRONG! republicans are on very thin ice and could become the Whigs very soon. Don’t hear much from the Whigs anymore, they became irrelevant just like McCain and Graham are doing to the republican party. Just say no to all of them, this country runs on voluntary consent of the governed. Just Quit. No support of a “foreign” government in D.C. Do only what you must, slowly, belatedly, reluctantly, with contempt and derision for all.

  • http://medicalrantings.blogspot.com PostalMed

And I mean that sincerely. The problem is that even though the Texas Republican Party is one of the most conservative state parties in the country, the power of incumbency is strong here. Unless Cornyn does something really stupid (like Mark Foley or Larry Craig stupid, and that is extremely unlikely), we’ll be lucky if anyone even runs in the primary against him. After all, even with a well known Senator running against him, Rick Perry had no trouble winning the gubernatorial primary. Sure, he only got a little over 50%, but he never campaigned that much either. So somebody without significant name recognition doesn’t stand a chancel. It will be a cakewalk for Cornyn.

  • texasgalt

The reason Senator Hutchison could not get any traction against Perry was the fact she was tainted by her spending and RINO positions.

If we have a wave election in November, with the House going to Republicans, it would not surprise me if Cornyn chucks it in.
