NRA Gets Involved in Indiana. Stutzman Is The Only Guy With an A+ Rating.

The NRA is sending out a postcard to its members in Indiana. You can see it here.

The NRA is not endorsing in the race, but notes that only Marlin Stutzman has an A+ rating on the second amendment. The postcard also notes that Dan Coats is the only candidate to “cast anti-gun votes” in office.

Go Marlin.

    YES! YES!

A+ is a good grade right?

  • red_baron

And that is Mike Pence endorsing Coats. Although I’m a big fan of the NRA I don’t think they’ll make up for what Pence just did.

I support Hostettler. He has been outstanding in the House of Reps, one of the few that we could count on, along with Jim DeMint, Jeff Flake and Mike Pence.

    - Voted against medicare expansion in 2000
    - Voted against medicare expansion in 2003
    - Voted against No Child Left Behind
    - “A” from NRA
    - “A+” from Numbersusa
    - Voted to eliminate Dept. of Education
    - “A” from National Taxpayers Union

I think Erick that you were a bit deceptive my not noting that they gave Hostettler an “A” rating, and noted that he has never voted to restrict gun rights.

I don’t know why Stutzman got an A+ while Hostettler only got an A, but it is obvious that there is no significant difference between them on this issue- otherwise they would be endorsing Stutzman.

Hostettler’s fundraising was less than six figures, this cannot be a positive sign for him, in the general election.

As much as I think he is a conservative, his fundraising ability is a HUGE liability, the the cash strapped GOP.

    Stutzman v Ellsworth in 2010
    Hostettler v Lugar in 2012
Those are the best matchups for each cycle.

…Regardless of who wins the primary.

But IN is the one place where a competitive GOP primary, along with shenanigans on the Dem side in picking a candidate, would absolutely justify heavy expenditures from apparatus outside the state of IN…

  • Doc Holliday

because he didn’t mention your guy, and his lower NRA rating? Way to make friends and influence people.

Erick mentioned the NRA ratings of 3 of the 4 candidates the NRA wrote about. Why did he leave off the fourth? It certainly does not make any sense to me. So, yes, I do think it was deceptive.

Hostettler has an “A”- why not mention this too. He has also been endorsed by Gun Owners of America.

I’ve known John Hostettler for many years, and there is no other person in the race for U.S. Senate in Indiana who’s conservative credentials are more impeccable. I greatly respect Dan Coats as a person, and I know Stutzman is not an ogre, but John Hostettler has the most consistent anti-tax, less government, pro-life, pro-family, pro-2nd Amendment record of all the candidates in this race. Stutzman voted for two massive tax increases. And though he voted to repeal one of them later, that is just “Not Ready for Prime-Time.” John Hostettler has been in Congress and took on not only the general Washington Tax-and-Spend establishment, he also called out the Republican Party for buying into the game and took alot of heat for it. I go with John because I know he will not back down when push comes to shove. He is the true conservative and true Tea Party candidate.

I’m in the 8th district — and have cast plenty of votes for John Hostettler over the years. But I won’t be this time.

He has Buchananesque views on national security policy. And, well, I just don’t think we can afford that in the age of Iranian and Pakistani nukes, etc.

That said, I have a sneaky feeling that Hostettler and Stutzman are splitting the anti-establishment vote…..making a clearer path for Coats.

  • soljerblue

and I sure don’t know the turf like some of y’all, but I can pretty well guess that Hostetler isn’t getting a whole lot of traction. OpenSecrets.org shows him almost dead in the water with fund raising, and no money usually means no chance, especially in a race as crowded as the GOP Senate primary. Coats, on the other hand, is way ahead of the pack in funding, with Stutzman coming along at number two. If I’m a conservative, which I am, and an NRA Lifer, which I also am, my money is going to go to the guy I think has a better chance to knock off Coats — even if it is a long shot at this point. So I’ve helped out Stutzman and will continue to do so.

  • Doc Holliday

maybe Erick just does not think Hostettler has a chance. Or maybe Erick wants to talk about his preferred candidate? You can’t call someone a liar because they don’t mention your guy.

  • Doc Holliday

Hostettler is good on many issues, but wrong on engaging the enemy abroad. Hmm, that reminds me of some one.
