Cherilyn Eagar Digs In and Backtracks

The Cherilyn Eagar campaign posted a statement about Ms. Eagar’s meeting with Tim Bridgewater back on May 12th.

I guess she knew where this was headed. Read her statement. The relevant part is here:

Mr. Bridgewater offered me the role of an unpaid spokeswoman, and I was honored at his confidence in me. It was a compliment to our campaign. In an earlier meeting with a Bridgewater supporter, some future fundraising help was offered should I run again. I would carry any debt I might hold from the U.S. Senate campaign. I did not feel this was an inappropriate gesture. Mr. Bridgewater never raised this issue himself, and he has told me he was not aware of it.

Now, let’s go back to the audio of the radio interview in question. It starts with Eagar saying this:

“My husband said you know Cherilyn you’re either going to be the winner or the king maker and I said I’d rather be the winner. I don’t know if I want to be the kingmaker.”

Okay, now let’s go to the end of the interview. The host asks of Bridgewater, “But did he offer to [the host pauses and changes it to the affirmative] he offered to pay your campaign debts.”

Eagar responds, “Yes.”

She goes on to say, “But again, in an appropriate way. It was in no way any sort of a bribe. It was just very cordial — a very kind thing for him to be concerned about.

Look, I get that Cherilyn Eagar did not think and does not characterize it as a bribe.

She took it as “a very kind thing for him to be concerned about.”

It sure as heck was a very kind thing of him to be concerned about — and for Bridgewater it meant getting Eagar’s support.

Eagar is now saying it was actually a campaign staffer and Bridgewater had no knowledge of it. Let’s clear that up: the radio host asked specifically about Bridgewater, not a staffer.

Based on the interview, Cherilyn Eagar certainly at the relevant time must have thought the offer was made at Bridgewater’s behalf. And really, who would have thought otherwise.

If I am ignoring facts, Eagar/Bridgewater supporters are ignoring reality.

Is that Bennett still refuses to rule out a write-in campaign
    http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=750&sid=10779926

He should have pledged at the convention that he would support the winner of the primary and give that campaign as much as he could out of his own war chest.

Take another look at the FEC reports. I will be surprised if Bennett breaks even when you take in to this previous campaigns. I hope he does break even.

Swallow v Bridgewater? That went so well we got Matheson.

Jonathan Reid is the new Lee campaign director with very interesting connections. Ryan McCoy steps back to real life and deputy director. Dan Hauser moves to fundraising.

Jason Powers is being referred to as an “advisor”. He seemed to be running things for Club for Growth in Utah prior to his new assignment. His brother, who was helping Bridgewater, has gone to DC.

Despite the tone of some worried about Jason Powers, they do have one point.

There are still people that were involved with the Swallow v Bridgewater races that don’t like the others. There are still people that were involved in this year’s US Senate race that will not vote for Lee. There are some Bennett people that have gone to Granato, most to Bridgewater, and just a few to Lee. Most of Eagar’s supporters went to Bridgewater.

Most supporters that have been dealing with Lee’s campaign are willing to vote for almost anyone but Lee. Lee bringing in someone with experience in helping to create that feeling as opposed to smoothing the feelings may backfire somewhere. If not in the primary, in the general election, or in the senate.

According to OpenSecrets http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N00006347 Bennett’s in the hole to the tune just shy of $131K .

Yes, she gets her campaign debts paid, Bob Loonesbury gets a BIG commercial time buy on his station, then immediately starts running what is essentially a campaign commerical as a promo…

    Nothing to see here….nothing.

    1. Tim didn’t offer a bribe.
    2. Cherilyn didn’t take one.
    3. Cherilyn hasn’t endorsed Tim as of yet, and didn’t at the convention.

At this time, Lee should be thanking Eagar for not endorsing Bridgewater at the convention. If she had done that, Bridgewater would have won the nomination and Lee wouldn?t even be in a primary today.

I was really hoping that after your ceaseless and banal shilling for Cheryl Eager resulted in her getting pasted in the convention you would just quietly slink away.

    Well…one can dream I suppose.

    Sigh!

    1. Tim didn?t offer a bribe. I have personally checked with 4 different witnesses. While I wasn’t in the room at the time, there were only a handful of people there.
    2. Cherilyn didn?t take a bribe and has stated from the start there wasn’t one.
    3. Cherilyn hasn?t endorsed Tim as of yet, and didn?t at the convention.

At this time, Mike Lee should be thanking Eagar for not endorsing Bridgewater at the convention. If she had done that, Bridgewater would have won the nomination and Lee wouldn?t even be in a primary today.

This attack, by someone that Mike Lee proudly lists as endorsing him, is one of the reasons I decided to back Bridgewater.
