1. Pride, the Fall, and Barack Obama

The Houston Chronicle is reporting the Netherlands, a experienced oil producing nation, offered the United States help in dealing with the British Petroleum spill very quickly after it started, but the Obama Administration turned them down, opting instead to coordinate with BP to stop the spill and contain the damage.Made worse, with the Obama administration threatening criminal and civil prosecution of British Petroleum as well as Obama refusing to keep open communication with British Petroleum’s CEO, the coordinated efforts of the company and government could go nowhere with no one talking to each other.Compounding all of this is a U.S. law “that requires all goods be carried in U.S. waters by U.S.-flagged ships, … prevent[ing[ Dutch ships with spill-fighting equipment from entering U.S. coastal areas.”Barack Obama wanted so hard to run from this disaster lest he be forced to accept responsibility for it has led to untold ecological and economic destruction. Please click here for the rest of the post.

2. What is it About South Carolina’s Male Politicians?

I realize they don’t like getting beaten by a woman and Nikki Haley is the first woman in South Carolina to get so far, but Gresham Barrett is off to a rough start in the runoff.First Barrett says character is all that counts. Then he immediately tells a lie . . .Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. Drilling Moratorium Violates Panel’s Recommendation

If Obama and Salazar wanted to cripple the domestic oil and gas industry and the very-red Gulf Coast states that depend on offshore drilling, they couldn’t find a better way to do it than to impose a six-month (at least) moratorium on all deepwater drilling, including the unprecedented step of shutting down operations on wells that were already underway. But they couldn’t just do it. They needed the cover of a “blue-ribbon panel”, a seven-member committee from the National Academy of Engineering. Their report was issued May 27.Trouble is, the panel reviewed a draft of Salazar’s technical recommendations that said nothing about a six-month moratorium for ongoing drilling operations. The panel recognizes the damage that the moratorium will do, and they are pi**ed off to have been so manipulated. Please click here for the rest of the post.

4. No Time to Go Wobbly: It’s Time to Follow the New Iron Ladies Into Battle

As the two prepared for the first Gulf war, Margaret Thatcher famously told George H.W. Bush “this is no time to go wobbly.” Well, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to believe that we are now fully engaged in a political war for the very future of our nation. It is no time for us to go wobbly. The Republican Establishment is declaring this their year of the woman. There are five in particular that I want to aggressively support: Nikki Haley running for Governor in South Carolina, Karen Handel running for Governor in Georgia, Sharron Angle running for the Senate in Nevada, Robin Smith running for Congress in Tennessee, and Pamela Gorman running for Congress in Arizona. Please click here for the rest of the post.
