From the mail bag

After my appearance on AC360 tonight to talk about Howard Dean calling Fox “racist,” I’ve got quite the odd assortment of “fan” mail. This one is pretty typical:

a fking stupid Swiss idiot. Erick, I didn’t know that Erickson was slightly Swiss( what Mullins isn’t Irish anymore, I’m shocked). You are known the quality of your enemies but so far they seem to be the idiot type.

need to continue to be on TV talking as much as possible. What their egos don’t allow them to grasp is the more they talk, the worse November is going to be for them. Obama needs to travel all over the country talking about all of the “great” things he’s done to us. All the while he will be reminding likely voters what an utter disaster he and liberalism are.

…Erick Erickson. Well it was Minnesota, that probably explains why they claimed he was Scandinavian. I suppose the Swiss put those runestones all over the countryside as well. Who knew they had an ocean port and ship building capabilities?! See what non-union teachers will do to a guy?

Also: this is pretty much the rhetorical level that the Democratic establishment seems determined to aim for wrt minority education.

  • texasgalt

is Snootty Ban and wanted to continue the, uh, conversation. . . just to let you know how he really felt about your Swiss heritage and your white privilege.

Not often you get an email from the President, Congrats.

  • redtillimdead

    from the B***S comment.

or is that tomorrow’s unedited DNC talking points for their news media anchors?

  • cmw

    n/t

  • Joliphant

or the other lunatics writing to your email.

I particularly enjoyed his phrase “Enlightened liberal racism”. When I hear things like that I become convinced our culture may have gone round the bend.

I am also feeling really out of touch and old because while I have an idea what the body part was I cant for the life of me figure out what the word is.

  • aesthete

    being Scotch-Irish. Odd, that.

  • tngal

The swiss make excellent chocolate. I was gonna ask if you make cheese. But that just sounded wrong on so many levels.

  • RedBeard

He/she did an absolutely sterling job of supporting Erick’s position, harming the leftist position, and defining the real racism problem, all in one short e-mail.

    Bravo!

  • spim

judging by the quality of his missive, this fellow *must* be one of our esteemed representatives

He presents a slam dunk case for retroactive birth control.

You forget to mention her *sparkling* writing skills. I hope she posts her resume on line. It would be a a delightful read. Unless she already has a job being speech writer for Biden. Race To The Top!

of our more influential Inner City Public School High Schools where they had one or two geography lessons in their curriculum tossed in between how to put a condom on a bannana and some diversity studies!

are such a great NFL team!

  • Common_Cents

Erick was right, the idiots screaming racism at every chance they get only cheapen it and make real racism tougher to root out. Americans will be completely desensitized in short order, like the boy who cried wolf.

  • momma

…to see who can write the next email that Erick selects for a “From the Mail Bag”?

And only making themselves look more stupid than we already know they are?

The “correspondent” is a vulgar, illiterate imbecile, but he got one thing right:

Last night Dyson came out on top.

I was very disappointed in Mr. Erickson’s performance.

Michael Eric Dyson is a known quantity. He is an aggressive, overbearing, rapid-fire speaker who bounces from point-to-point in a non-stop attack mode. He means to overwhelm his debating opponent, fluster him and render him speechless.

Mr. Erickson was his perfect foil last night. In my opinion Mr. Erickson came on the AC360 show ready to respond to Howard Dean. Unfortunately, Howard Dean wasn’t there; Michael Eric Dyson was, and Mr. Erickson was unprepared for him.

Twice, maybe three times, Mr. Erickson said that Mr. Dyson was “painting with too broad a brush.” How weak is that? What does Mr. Erickson think the charge of institutional racism is – nuanced? Mr. Dyson’s smear, like tar, is meant to be applied broadly. That is its power: it obliterates and dirties everything.

And plaintively asking Anderson Cooper to let him get a word in didn’t make Mr. Erickson look very formidible either. Mr. Dyson, you will notice, had no trouble at all making his points over, around and through Mr. Erickson, who served as a nice polemical punching bag for the black professor.

Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight. If your opponent is going to come right at you, you better have a strategy to stop him in his tracks, or you will be run over, like Mr. Erickson was last night.

Racism is the one-punch knockout weapon that all liberals and progressives, black and white, believe they can throw whenever they get into trouble. The JournoList entry about Karl Rove and Fred Barnes proves that. Possession of that weapon, that magic bullet, means the liberals are never afraid of a fight with conservatives, because liberals have seen that conservatives have no defense against their ultimate weapon.

And don’t think that the more that bullet is fired at the wrong targets, the weaker the bullet will get. That is the fantasy that conservatives have been telling themselves for years. Al Sharpton was one of the three men behind the Tawana Brawley hoax in the late 1980′s. Is Reverend Sharpton politically weaker today than he was then? Pose the question to Don Imus if you’re not sure.

The charge of Racism gains in potency, like anything else, unless and until it is OPPOSED.

Saying it’s too broad, or that you’re from Sweden, or asking the host for help is not an effective response. That’s why I was disappointed with Mr. Erickson, whose work I admire and respect.

I recommend that you read “La Diva’s” new column criticizing the way conservatives respond to the Left’s phony racism charges.

As I wrote in reply to your question, evil will continue to grow in strength until it is effectively opposed.

And the best defense is a good offense.
