Can Rick Perry Rebound With a Flat Tax?

The Perry campaign wants to reboot, having retooled and refined its message and tried hard to get back on the jobs message.

Okay, fine, but first the Perry camp needs to answer a basic question – why should supporters who went all in for him and wound up feeling burned give him a second shot? I asked him about that and it was, perhaps, a good sign that he stayed on the jobs message.

The jobs message, though, raises a question about his flat tax – won’t it just help the rich? Also, what about President Obama’s approach and his hostility to jobs and economic reform.

I got into all those with Governor Perry last Wednesday in Orange County, CA. Perry also previewed a new line he’s using with credit to Jim DeMint – “Are you better off than you were $4 trillion ago?”

COMMENTS

  • tailfins1959

Perry can come back by dealing WELL with a crisis in his campaign. However, a winning debate performance wouldn’t hurt either.

  • Money

If you watch Perry in interviews, press conferences, or on the stump, there’s no reason to believe that he could not defeat Obama and be an excellent President.

For whatever reason, be it nerves, format, or unpreparedness, he didn’t perform particularly well in portions of the first few debates (although it seems that evaluations of his performances get worse the farther away we get from them). But this is not a dumb man. This is not an inarticulate man. This is not a man incapable of engaging in a philosophical discussion about the government’s proper role in the economy.

He should be our nominee, and I still believe he will be. He is fully capable of doing what McCain couldn’t do–beating Obama soundly in a debate. McCain couldn’t beat Obama in part because he couldn’t articulate a conservative position with any sort of conviction. Perry can and will do that. And the American people will see Obama for the sputtering weenie that he is without TOTUS.

  • izoneguy

I have know who he is for over 10 years.
I have seen the libel media try to bury Perry for those 10 years.
He has convictions and an inner strength.
Granted he hates debates, that is not the true measure of any man.

  • nathanz

here is what I don’t understand:

here are a few of the grate things about Perry:

    1) An amazing record, no one can mach, not even close.
    2) a “Clean” and beautiful personal life.
    3) the amazing story how he is self made!
    4) grate speaker and grate one on one interviews.

and here is the bad part:

    1) he is not the best debater (so far)

and that’s why he is so low in the polls??

  • Scope

in his interview with Perry brought up the point that Perry’s flat tax would help the rich, and wouldn’t reduce the deficit because there wouldn’t be enough revenues coming into the federal government. Perry very correctly pointed out the “it helps the rich” as yet another “class warfare” argument. There is much approval of Perry’s plan as it cuts spending, and adds the cap to spending in DC. By polling his plan has been much more acceptable than Cain’s plan which adds 2 new government revenue streams. Romney’s plan tinkers around the edges.

So EE, are we back to questioning Perry’s plan based on CNN views, and leftists views of class warfare? Or are we serious in letting people keep more of their money across the board, including those that are the job creators,? Or are we willing to participate in the class warfare arguments?

  • texas214

isn’t his positions, but rather he hasn’t come off all that likeable (Cain), or competent (Romney).

If he can solve either of those then he will get a second look, ’til then he is an also ran

  • clintonformccain

he didn’t endorse a plan to electrocute the chilren of illegal immigrants in Texas. This is all about letting them pay to attend Texas community colleges.

  • center77

And by the way the lady who accused Cain is a registered Republican.

  • Scope

McCain was also very reluctant to go after Obama, up to and including when he said there was nothing to fear with an Obama presidency. Perry would never relent on his attacks against the worst president in history, who has done more damage to this country in 3 years than any other president ever. He has surpassed Carter and then some.

  • nathanz

that the polls are wrong, or it will turn around shortly.

  • goformitt

Your actually pegging Perry as the guy who will beat Obama in a debate? Perry? Really?

You must be one very optimistic fellow!

  • center77

the shallowness of the Republican electorate, because they are so anti establishment, but then go for the guy the establishment (fox news) wants them too. The establishment has tried to rare Perry down, and conservatives had decided Cain was better. It’s a sad day indeed.

Perry is the only true consistent conservative that has the record to prove it, prove his governing experience and can beat Obama.

If you look, research and watch his interviews Perry is spot on and can easily hit it out of the ball park.

His debate performance can improve, surely if you watch the Iowa debate forum he was clearly right on target.

Perry’s policies, the energy plan, tax reform, entitlement reform are all very good policies good vision that will get our country back on its feet again.

  • hermas42

    Couldn’t agree more with you.

Though he faces more obstacles than the other contenders. The Republican establishment, all the media, liberal AND Fox news, trial lawyers, teachers unions, unions in general,, Texas democrats, they all hate him.

Rick Perry is hiw own man and follows his convictions.

Plus I like economic and energy plans.

    He’s got my vote.

  • izoneguy

Most W-2 wage earners can do their taxes without much of a hassle.
I have paid my accountant for over 20 years to do my personal and company taxes. It gets very complicated and a flat tax won’t change that.
What employers want is stability and a lower tax rate. Period…..

We need to be able to forecast 2-5-10 years out….

If the government keeps hitting on the 1% and wants blood
all the time then nothing will go forward.

Rick Perry is the only one talking about making Washington DC
as inconsequential in your life as possible.

I just like this guy. I have complete faith he will make a comeback and this country will be better off for it.

  • usa1776usa

If conservatives are honest then there truly is no other choice…Perry has been under attack by the left for more than 10 years and they’ve still not been able to question his character, his leadership, or his conservative record. He’s been vetted over and again. Number one in job creation, number one in social conservative record (2nd Amendment, Pro-life stance, Marriage), most experience in dealing with immigration (By the way, 177 of 181 legislators or 98% who represent approximately 98% of the electorate in Texas voted for the in-state tuition bill. When 98% of any legistature who represent the people tell you this is what they want, then you better listen). Still, it’s Governor Perry who has been on the front lines in the battle against illegal immigration and worse, the cartels who are threatening our way of life. He cut spending, passed tort reform, and passed voter ID. His Jobs Plan and Tax Plan are unmatched by the other candidates….there is more but I’ll stop there…

  • sunshinek67

is going to have a hard time defending $4 trillion loss, Solyndra, Obamacare….

    Um

  • goformitt

Perry has problems – he seems neither likeable or competent.

Every time I hear him brag about his job creation I think of hundreds of illegals working for pennies and hundreds more minimum wage fast-food jobs.

His flat-tax proposal sounds like just another gimmick that will get shot full of holes if he ever becomes a threat to Obama.

He strikes me as a shell of a candidate. Add his bizzare public appearances coupled with a past full of rumors counts me out as a supporter.

  • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

I still want to like him.

  • explodinghead

Hey, your moniker says it all buddy. We never expected you to vote for anyone other than Mitt, nor did I expect you to write anything positive about anyone other than Mitt. No shock here.

  • center77

those jobs did not go to illegals, and Texas has had a huge population growth. Texas is proof conservatism works, and no other candidate but hunstman can claim to have created jobs. Who ever you support has a record that can’t touch Perry’s, but what’s funny, people knock him now, but they will point to Texas as proof when they face Obama. lame, that’s what Perry haters are, just lame.

  • sunshinek67

Gallup has Cain/Romney at 21%. Perry is 10 point behind according to Gallup. Trend going up on him~

  • bzip

That is what I was saying ealier. This is a 4 person race right now: Romney, Cain, Perry and Newt.

At the current rate Cain goes down, Perry and Newt go up.

At some point Cain will be in the bottom feeders and it will be Romney, Perry, Newt.

After Iowa it than turn into a Romney, Perry race.

Now lets try to make this a bit faster so we can strongly rally behind Perry and knock Romney out quickly so we can focus on Obama. Thank you for agreeing :-) .

  • sunshinek67

    gophermitt, nice work~

  • bzip

Ah, don’t pay attention to the “goformitt” fellow. It is clear he/she is a Mitt fanb and we are trying to sort out the anti-romney. You know the flip-flopper romney :-) .

  • serpounce

Implementing a revenue neutral flat tax is going to be pretty much a non-starter because it will increase taxes on a lot of people.

As spending ins reduced we can cut the tax burden on those who bare the most burden first, with a long-term goal of a flat(er) tax, but pushing to shift the existing tax burden around is just asking for more class warfare dynamics.

  • sunshinek67

maybe, I just don’t know about Gingrich’s past ethic’s violations and personal baggage. ?

  • sunshinek67

and deny, deny and spin. It gets confusing. No wonder Perry flubbed that one in Florida debate.

Romney has problems ? he seems neither likeable or competent.

Every time I hear him brag about his job creation I cannot think of what jobs he has created. Overall at Bain he was a job destroyer.

His 59 point proposal sounds like just another gimmick that will get shot full of holes if he ever becomes a threat to Obama.

He strikes me as a shell of a candidate. Add his bizzare appearance coupled with a past full of flip-flops counts me out as a supporter.

  • rec0n

with reducing tax/regulation on “the rich”. Where I come from ‘the rich’ is a liberalism for ‘job creators’. Perry’s paving the way for economic expansion, job and *wage growth*, & reduced energy costs and all that comes with them – and that is exactly what we’ve been calling for.

Where did this ‘only helps the rich’ thing come from? Pick your tax plan and be on your way.

  • tailfins1959

You can use the current tax code. The flat tax will be optional.

  • tyman

have a job. make more money and pay more in taxes or NOT have a job and pay no taxes?

I think Perry’s plan will get the economy going, and for me, that’s what it’s all about.

The folks that are out of work won’t be affected by a tax increase. They can stay with the current system for now.

The folks that are on the government payroll won’t vote for a Republican anyway, so no votes are lost there.

Plus, if the laws of economics come into play, and corporate taxes are lowered, as they compete for business, prices will probably be lowered as those savings are passed onto consumers. That’s how it should work.

The rich have been paying the largest burden unfairly, and I think they’re the ones most responsible for this slowdown (and rightfully so). How long should they keep playing only to have more taken away? I guess they’re giving us a good lesson in economics and proving that communism does NOT work. I’m certainly not rich, but my work is dependent on wealthy people…when they’re not happy, I’m not happy.

  • easyb

As bzip said, “After Iowa it than turn into a Romney, Perry race.”

Gingrich won’t win Iowa, in my opinion because of all his baggage.

Cain is on the way down for obvious reasons.

Perry needs to lock himself in the woodshed and do debate prep, debate prep, debate prep. One good performance will do a lot for his polls and his chances.

  • boonerdan

Don’t worry – the GOP Establishment will take him out too. They are clearing the field for McRomney.

  • LoneStarSon

Perry is an excellent campaigner and a good governor. He is not, however, a very good debater.

Perry needs to stick to his job creation record; his record of deregulation; and his record of tort reform. One thing that I have yet to read/hear being brought up is the importance of the Supreme Court and the nominations the next president will make. Although Texas Justices are elected, many are appointed to finish out the terms of others. Perry has a very strong record on that as well.

Perry needs to differentiate himself and do so quickly. Every time Mitt Romney brings up only holding one elected office, Perry needs to call him out and remind him how many times he has ran and lost. The next time Perry makes a comment about something in Romney’s book and Romney denies it’s existence, Perry needs to ask for the book to be brought out. Even if Perry ends up being wrong, Mitt will stop it and flip-flop out of pure fear that Perry might be right.

Perry IS the Governor of Texas. Mitt WAS the Governor of Massachusetts.

As to Cain, I’m really surprised anyone on this board supports him. The man was part of the Federal Reserve. Some of y’all claim not to understand why Cain wouldn’t support a Perry presidency, we’ll who is the most outspoken critic of The Fed? That’s right it’s Perry. For me, the reason I won’t support Cain for the nomination has nothing to do with his possible sexual scandals, but everything to do with his known ties to The Fed and his statements about not wanting/needing to audit The Fed. I won’t support him for the nomination and I’d have to hold my nose to vote for him against Obama. The Fed is just as much a problem for this economy as Obama is.

Perry has his flaws, but he loves this country.

  • jrmax13

LoneStarSon wrote: “The man was part of the Federal Reserve. Some of y?all claim not to understand why Cain wouldn?t support a Perry presidency, we?ll who is the most outspoken critic of The Fed? That?s right it?s Perry.”

Actually, the most outspoken against the Fed is Ron Paul. geks, should have caught this already, but the PerryDataBase is not interfacing correctly tonight, I suppose.

  • YnotNOW

in that our society and economy affords economic mobility. The poor are disproportionately (but not all) those who are just starting out, or those that have faced a “setback” and re-starting. But they usually don’t stay in the bottom 20%.

Likewise, the “rich” 1% earn a huge amount for a year or a few years, and then re-join us more mortal breadwinners. Business set-backs, etc. In fact, many of the “rich” are at the end of their earning years, and shortly to join the ranks of the SS/Medicare.

Often with an enviable nest-egg, but that’s none of my business to envy!

  • rec0n

although whether it’s VP for anyone aside from Cain is debatable. If Cain goes, I’d want Newt to go too, or Cain will be mincemeat. Hell he’s mincemeat whether Newt goes with him or not, really.

I don’t think Perry would be looking in that direction, tho. My guesstimate is another Gov.

  • LoneStarSon

However, since 2008, I’ve been able to tune Ron Paul out. I should have put the most outspoken candidate with a legitimate shot at winning the nomination and presidency. My apologies.

Perry has the added benefit of not having his competition being able to use everything he just said in campaign ads the next day to prove he is an unscrupulous liar.
Not mentioning names, but then I don’t have to do I?
Consider the implication of that for a moment, I don’t have to say a name and out of 8 candidates everyone reading this knows exactly who I am referring to.
    Just sayin…..

than all the others and by far. He is three times governor of the second most populous state in the Union, one of the most prosperous states in the Union, and the state that has created almost 40% of all the new jobs in the entire country. That is a record that no one has among all the other candidates, not even close.
It is really said that we have cheapened the Presidency so much by focusing on 30 seconds sound bites and 3 second zinger in a debate. President do not and must not govern in 30 second sound bites. Wake up folks, we are throwing this elections to Obama if we do not nominate the right person, and that would be Perry.

  • sunshinek67

he is not going on Sunday morning shows either, actually he is not anywhere to be found on t.v. face to face with tough reporter Q’s. Interesting.

you are looking for a smooth talker and one liner thrower i.e. you are for talkers not doers. In this case then Perry is not your man.

  • jrmax13

If Perry ever debates Obama – the POTUS would use a Hillary line like: “You’re not likable enough.”

  • jgge

Let us all scream this chant and let it rhymes with the stupid shouting from basketball fans “Defense ta ta tatatat tata…” Seriously folks you are cheapening the Presidency with your obsession with these stupid debates. You are making a 30 second sound bites and 3 second zinger as the most important qualifications to become President. Let me breaks the news for you, a President does not govern with 30 second sound bites. He does and cannot enact any policy with 3 seconds zinger.

  • onemovoter

by upping the stakes with your proposals. I kid you not….

“Second, Romney has basically adopted Paul Ryan?s Medicare reform plan? Another bold call.” – reality check just bounced….

“Third, Romney proposed capping government spending at 20 percent of GDP and cutting $500 billion from government spending during his first term.” – omgosh $500 bil over 4 years? That’s so…. uh… bold?

Perry has been fighting with Obama about TX, the entire time Obama has been in office. They dislike each other immensely. Believe me when I say that Perry will be prepared, especially if they can get the teleprompter away from Obama.

  • greyeagle

Perry is constantly being trashed and lied about on other conservative websites. Who is doing the trashing? Supporters of the other GOP candidates. Some of the comments are vicious. However, that is not being done on this web sites. Every candidate gets a fair shake on this web site.

  • Xasteius

    1 cup of flour
    4 tsp baking powder
    3/4 t salt
    1 cup corn meal
    1/4 brown sugar (or honey)
    2 eggs beaten
    1 cup milk
    1/4 cup oil
Mix dry and wet ingredients separately, then add together
    Beat until barely smooth
Pour into greased 9-inch square pan or muffin tins (1/3 c per tin). Bake 25 min at 435 degrees

  • greyeagle

Perry can beat Romney and Obama/teleprompter. Perry has a long resume, Obama has a telepompter. Romney has a resume, but certainly is not a conservative. He is pro-gay, pro-abortion, pro pro pro. But he is NOT pro-life, and pro-conservative. Perry is a staunch Evangelical Christian, pro-life, defense hawk, friend of Israel, pro-energy and securing the borders. He is the best candidate by far for the office of President.

  • goformitt

He knows he is likely to be the Republican nominee. As such, he will want to gain the support of the independents. So while the current crop of #2s try to run to the right in the hope of garnering support from the far-right tea party extremists, he can’t win that game. And trying to do so will only hurt him against Obama.

So he’s laying low, letting the #2s eat each other alive, while he cruises to victory with out sticking his neck out too far. Then he should be in a good position to take on Obama, winning a big chunk of the independents and moderate Republicans.

Call it what you may – I call it smart. The tea-party is loud, but its not really much of a political force except in the fringe.

  • goformitt

at least kinda … I said Newt did a good job and got a great reception at the Des Moines dinner last week. I also said his star was rising fast this week. I think he is now #2 an can pose a real threat to Romney.

I don’t think he is as likely to beat Obama though.

I’ve been watching Perry 20 times a day with his Iowa media blitz. He’s spending heavily trying to get his numbers out of the tank. It may work.

In my opinion, he has many flaws, especially with the warm welcome he has extended to illegals. That’ll be a tough one to flip-flop on. Simple fact is, if had wanted to do something to stem the flow of illegals into thge US he would have.

    An he did nothing.

You can talk about what he plans to do in the future – campaign talk is cheap. I’ll look at what he did as governor.

Plus, he seems to have a drinking / drug problem.

  • gekster

    Can you explain this.

    from:
    http://www.texastribune.org/texas-mexico-border-news/texas-mexico-border/perry-sending-rangers-guard-to-the-border/

    excerpt.
Gov. Rick Perry is expanding Operation Border Star, a multi-agency border security effort he launched in 2007, sending teams of Texas Rangers and National Guard troops to curb border crime and prevent spillover violence from Mexico.
“This is the latest in a series of aggressive actions we’ve taken to fill the gap left by the federal government’s ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border,” Perry announced in Houston.

    and:
Perry also briefly noted that he had awarded another $2 million grant to operate surveillance cameras on the border.

    Must be fake stories.

  • Locked and Loaded

“And you WERE likable, but now look what you have done!”

  • gekster

    He’s running for President!

    Oh wait…

  • retire05

as the man you support for the office of POTUS.

    Perry did nothing?

Yeah, that’s why the Discovery Channel has a program titled “Texas Drug Wars” that tells the story of the Texas Rangers, the most elite police force in the U.S., fighting the drug war on the Texas/Mexico border. Perhaps you would like to share who you think those Rangers report to? Or are you so dimwitted you don’t know? Do you think the Texas Rangers report to that idiot that currently parks his tail in the Oval Office?

And oh, about the Discovery Channel’s specials on the Arizona, New Mexico and California’s elite police working the border, they don’t exist.

  • nathanalbright

If you’re referring to his laid back friendly personality at Christian events in NH (which, if I remember correctly, don’t encourage a lot of drinking), then perhaps you should think there might be other reasons for someone to be loose and comfortable. It’s called a personality. It helps if you have one.

If you dislike candidates with drinking/drug problems you must really hate Cain.

  • nathanalbright

At least you’re an honest Mitt-bot. Most candidates pull to the liberal or conservative sides in the primaries to get the “core” supporters of their party and then pull to the middle in the general campaign in order to attract independents. It would appear as if Mittens believes that it is not necessary to appeal to the 75%-80% of Republicans who (like myself) think he is not conservative enough. For all of his flip-flopping, he appears to have compounded his errors by thinking that it is not necessary to work after energizing the conservative base because he takes us for granted. Thanks for revealing this rather arrogant (and in my view ultimately failed) campaign strategy for what it is.

  • rickperryreport

…what is going on with Perry. He has always been written off in his gubernatorial campaigns. In 2006, there was no way he was going to win because everyone was splitting the right/conservative vote. In 2009, he was “toast” because Kay Bailey had a 25 point lead. Also, something that Paul Burka at Burka Blog on the Texas Monthly documented is that Perry is always lucky. Something always happens in his campaigns that put him over the top. This campaign’s luck may have been Herman Cain’s bimbo eruption, whether the eruption’s catalysts were fair or not.

He has nailed every interview and every public speaking engagement for the past 4 weeks. I think that Perry is running on “all 8″ now and the debate performance will be vastly improved. He’s found his footing, and gained the footing through very hard work. He’s been consistent and on message everywhere I’ve seen him.

  • rickperryreport

    If so, fight’s on!

I’ll be in Iowa soon enough to take you on!

    Perry folks play to win.

    Just sayin’

  • rickperryreport

…the Texas governor’s office is a very tight ship. I’ve interfaced with them several times and come away very impressed with the organization those people have. Perry is a good leader and given time, I think puts together a very good team.

His campaign was pretty chaotic, as he admits in Erickson’s interview above. But they’re firing on all cylinders now. Watch out. I’ve seen this before in Perry’s other races. He starts slow, and blasts off.

  • sunshinek67

How do you figure that Romney is going to get out the vote in large enough numbers to offset Obama?

  • iddavis

“common sense conserative” as that is truly what he is all about. His plans make sense…they are not so far to the right they defy logic, yet clearly proves he is no RINO but a true, common sense conservative. For Romney and Bachmann to jump all over him for TX in-state tuition poly for children of illegals is hyprocrisy. They have both supported similar positions and/or did nothing to voice their opposition to similar laws in their respective states. Perry tells it like it is, and perhaps in some cases honesty isn’t always the best policy…not when it comes to running for office. Unfortunately, it’s all about perception. With Perry, he doesn’t hide or cover up his negatives…if he’s a bad debater, he clearly recognizes it and doesn’t make excuses for himself. It’s about time all true conservatives start rallying around the only true conservative running, and that’s Rick Perry. Our time is NOW………let’s not blow this one like we did the last one and get stuck w/another McCain! Let’s get this one right…our lives and our children’s lives and future generations depend on us getting it right this time around….we won’t ever have another opportunity if we end up w/another 4 yrs of the Marxist BO.

  • 4suramcan

just who is this Erik Ericson these days. My red flags are raising.

  • msjallen

may not be a good debater but he would be a good president. However, I hope he does work on his debating skills. I like his attitude and he truly seems to love America.

  • msjallen

are useless at this point in the game. I refuse to believe them since they can be bias and misleading. The Primaries will tell the story.

  • 4suramcan

If after watching these interviews you are not impressed with Mr. Perry for president, then what part about common sense do you not understand?

  • carolynr

If any of you have read my posts, you know I am for Rick Perry. I have watched what he has done in Texas way before he became a candidate.

Did any of you see the interview with Dobbs last night where a person from ICE said that the morale could not be lower because of the new orders from Obama? Yet, we have our states doing the job of the Federal Government.

About the debates. OK…it would be good if we had the media stop pitting these people against each other waiting for one to confront the other while America goes to get the popcorn and soda to what the “show”. This is our country…this isn’t some game and one minute is not enough time to explain anything except if it is a yes or no answer. Before I get to Perry. About the debate with Obama. All of you posters…imagine if you could debate Obama. All you would need is crimes (Solyndra, Fast & Furious) etc.) costs to the taxpayer in hidden taxes, failure to fulfill duties of POTUS, i.e., the border for one, suing the States and asking why. All of you could come up with a list. Forget answering Obama’s charges…just keep on asking about Obama’s record. It’s all about Obama. How about his JOBS program? How about the money spent on the stimulus program that went to unions, how about the appointments that are conflicts of interest (union leader in NRLB).
I would just highlight every single thing that Obama has done wrong with facts to back it up and hammer away at him USING FREEDOM AS A BACKDROP. Forget charges against Perry…just keep on hammering away. Even if I studdered and stammered…I’d get the message across. The guy is a liar, a Marxist and he is anti-American…I would not put it in those terms because of the “feeling” people in the USA…but I would get my point across….How can you chant HOPE when there is no TRUST?

We want a Conservative. OK…let’s look at Perry’s record.

    Fiscally Conservative. – that works
Support of Military – that works…in fact he is the only candidate that has served in the Military.
Believes in Family and Values – that works.
Wants the EPA limited – that works BIG time for me.
Wants to make America Energy Independent – that works.
Wants to block grant Medicaid back to the states – that works.
Has a model for states initiated in Texas – Health Texas – that works
Created 40% of the jobs – that works
Believes in God of his understanding – that works.
Believes in State’s Rights – that works. Closer people are to government, the more control they have over it.
DOES NOT BELIEVE IN AMNESTY – That works.
Has a fantastic plan for tax reform…THAT WORKS..BIG TIME
Believes in Free Market System – that works.
Believes that SS needs to be reworked to SAVE IT and has plan – that works…and I am on SS. However, if I were my daughter…I would want a private account. Perry came out with that plan BEFORE HERMAN or NEWT.
Does not believe in bailouts – even Europe – that works.
Believes in SMALLER Federal Government – THAT WORKS
Believes that Education Dept. should go back to states – that works.
    Is Pro-Live – that works
Believes in Second Amendment – that works.
Has an explanation for in-state tuition that works for Texas and was ratified by their Legislature – that works.
Has an immediate solution to border solution – that works.
Tort Reform – Loser Pays and that would lead to lower insurance premiums for EVERYONE. – that works
Energy Policy – that works for everything and everybody.
Is against current Cap and Trade Policies – that Works.

Concerning the trolls on this blog. The Bildenberg Group, an eccentric group of wealthy people, invite people of DIVERSE OPINIONS to give their point of view. Perry’s…State’s Rights and Energy Independence….I don’t think they will invite him back.

He was a Democrat, like Reagan, switched in 1989 to Republican. Al Gore’s platform was, at that time, family values and 2nd amendment rights.

His father’s leased hunting/grazing area was known by that name way before Perry was even in politics.

SS is a Ponzi Scheme and anyone that doesn’t like that brash name…forget it…the Federal Government stole the money.

In case you missed it…The Federal Reserve is paying .25% to banks which is way above the legal amount. Go google that one.

CONCLUSION – WHO IS THE CONSERVATIVE IN THE RACE? Rick Perry.

  • cbartlett

    good summary!

  • bzip

Does anyone care to dispute these facts that Perry is truly a proven conservative and at the same time offer a better proven candidate than Perry with a record to prove it????
    Anyone, please anyone?

    Thanks so much carolynr

A major problem with this flat tax is that it doesn?t actually simplify the system. Because it is optional taxpayers will have to figure out which system taxes them less so they will still have to spend as much time, if not more, complying with the tax code. http://eng.am/sNjdNK

Instead of radically overhauling the tax system, why not try and achieve the grand bargain based on the Simpson-Bowles committee?s suggestions that had been but forth during the debt ceiling debate? http://eng.am/usFAFs

The Simpson-Bowles committee found that by eliminating tax expenditures and lowering marginal tax rates Congress would be able to simplify the tax code, improve fairness, and spur economic growth. http://eng.am/noTDPF

Would you rather wait for Republicans to budge on higher taxes or achieve the grand bargain revenue-neutral tax reform right now?

  • izoneguy

All of these candidate solutions are ideas.

Perry is smart by not locking in anything that may not be able to get passed in Congress like 999.

  • questionman

GW Bush was the worst president (unnecessary war, high deficits, billion dollar contracts to cronies, erosion of privacy and rights against illegal searches)

George will ALWAYS be remembered as America?s WORST PRESIDENT EVER!!!!!!

He will NEVER be mentioned by republicans during an election year!

Obama hasn’t done as much damage as George W.

Exactly what “damage” are you referring too? How many JOBS BILLS have we seen from our savior Republican congress? Didn’t they run on the fact they were putting jobs number 1? Sorry dude but that crop of GOP contenders has not got a chance.

Obama’s foreign policy has consisted of undoing the damage that Bush did or alternatively, unwinding bad policy choices in favor of better ones.

Virtually the only thing Republicans have done is block every attempt to move this country forward. who’s doing the real damage?

  • LoneStarSon

Ron Paul served as well…However, I’ll take it you too meant, of the viable candidates, Perry is the only one that served.

  • pttx333

everything together for everyone to see. A most pleasant report after reading a lot of the garbage that I’ve seen today!

    THANKS!

  • pttx333

in any debate at any time. Our Dear Reader can’t string together more than 3 words without TOTUS, doncha know. He sounds like a blithering idiot without TOTUS, and I am convinced that he truly is a blithering idiot. There nothing in his actions, demeanor, governance to convince us otherwise. Perry would not be a wilting violet in cutting him down either – he is a straight shooter.

…I think we’re looking at the worst president.

He has driven the debt up higher than anyone would have ever imagined.

    We must replace him….
