So did my husband and 3 of my kids - hope the other two do also. I have never donated to a campaign before but I sent money to Ted in March. I have never put a sign in my yard before for anyone other than a friend running for City Council several years ago. Put a sign for Ted up a couple of weeks ago despite the fact that a longtime friends across the street stood up and spoke for Dewhurst in the April county Republican party meeting. Once Romney starting looking "inevitable", I decided the Senate was more important to fight for. It has taken a LONG time to get Kay Bailey out of there - we DON'T need another Rino Dewhurst in there. I really, really hate that he is buying this election because he has the money to put out lies that are so expensive to fight. Does anyone ever question how Dewhurst got so much money when he's been in state office so long? Sure hope people realize that a Sarah Palin endorsement is a WHOLE lot better that those stupid Huckabee ads. I know Perry was probably guilted into his endorsement but Huckabee has NO excuse other than supporting GOP big government moderates.

regarding whethr TX trends purplish. National media and DNC are pretty much blind to them both. The CA mass migration to Austin plus the massive influx of people from NE and MidWest starting jobs in TX in the last 4 years, equates to hundreds of thousands (millions over the last 30 years) of voters who grew up reflexively voting "D". It;s a problem. Second, the Tejano vote in South Texas. Texas Hispanics trend socially very conservative(For crying out loud Eva Longoria grew up on a ranch in South Texas and is good with a rifle)_. It is a fact stuffedunder the rug at the DNC that 41 % of this group voted for Bush in 2000 (41%!). I believe Obamas gay decision is going to give hiim and the Democrates nationally in the future, real problems with this bloc of voters who otherwise vote down ballot heavily D.

I am a Texas voter and have still not made up my mind 100%. I want to vote for Ted Cruz - but the endorsement by Ron and Rand Paul and some of the other libertarian-aligned groups concerns me. I am definitely a Marco Rubio kind of tea partier (fiscal hawk and military hawk) and hope Cruz is too. The support by Mark Levin and Ed Meese and Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity of Cruz is reassuring - I just want to make sure he is not an adherent of the Paul foreign policy philosophy. And I haven't been able to find any concrete policy on these types of issues for Cruz or really any of the candidates.

with Utah. Utah is more socially traditional, Texas is more politically conservative because of its historical underpinings which are essentially...populist - which if it includes low taxes and gun rights = modern conservatism. In the final analysis, UT is a conservative state politically and be counted on for a long while to be such. Texas is a conservative state politically but may start seeing some Dem erosion (or maybe not), but right now - it is Republican Ground Zero in the United States. No Repub will get to the WH without Texas money and 38 (count em 38) electoral college votes, and the other 30 or so it brings with it from. Why has this core power base developed in Texas in our era? As Gerald oHara said to Scarlett:" it's the land" -when Texas came into the Union IT KEPT ITS LAND. The feds own 64% of Utah and near 90% of Nevada. They only control about 2% of TX not including the military bases. With all that surface under its own control and all that money and all those EC votes, when Texas gets an idea to do something conservative - it is a mainstay to our cause and a dire threat to Obama. Oh and yes, overall, OK is the most conservative place overall, an amazing place that can alway be counted on to do the right thing, Go Sooners.

The Chronicle story that you linked to is their biography of Ted Cruz. It is also the only Chronicle story I am aware of that didn't fawn all over Dewhurst in the process. The Chronicle is so far in the tank for Dewhurst that their election "news" stories can barely even mention Cruz, beyond a throw-away comment that he, too, is a candidate.

A couple weeks ago the Chronicle wrote an editorial favoring Dewhurst. Their main fascination for him was that he is congenial; that he recognizes the necessity of working with all parties to solve our problems.

- A $15-trillion deficit, but he is congenial;
- An unconstitutional health insurance mandate, but he congenial;
- A sell-out of our closest allies, but he is congenial;
- An unrelenting attack against capitalism, but he is congenial;
- Bail-outs and crony capitalism all over the board, but he is congenial;

And so forth. You know the screed better than I do. Yet this was all that the Chronicle had in their recommendation for Dewhurst: congeniality. We know where 'congeniality' has gotten us.

Furthermore, the Chinese company in the Dewhurst ad was appealing a US court ruling against them. The appellate court found sufficient merit to hear the case. Does Dewhurst now hate the US judicial system? His ad makes him out to be a bigot against the Chinese, and opposing foreign trade. I am insulted by it.

We cannot afford to have Dewhurst in the Senate.

– An unrelenting attack against capitalism, but he is congenial;
– Bail-outs and crony capitalism all over the board, but he is congenial;

And so forth. You know the screed better than I do. Yet this was all that the Chronicle had in their recommendation for Dewhurst: congeniality. We know where ‘congeniality’ has gotten us.

Dewhurst went to Iowa and campaigned enthusiastically for Perry so RP had to return the favor. When Dewhurst first became Lt. Gov., he pursued a moderate to liberal agenda (Perry went along with some of the stuff like the Texas Dream Act because he was new to the governorship and had to get along with Dewhurst and a Texas Senate controlled by RHINOs and Dems). These events caused true conservatives like Dan Patrick to be elected to the Texas Senate.

After that, Dewhurst had to do Perry's and the Conservatives bidding and, at least, showed a more conservative public face and has ridden Perry's coat tails ever since. Perry has been very low key with the support and, with the exception of a couple of radio ads and a t.v. ad, hasn't commented on the race. We hear more from Huckabee (another fiscal moderate in conservatives clothing) and the few Tx politicians who have endorsed Dewhurst owe him favors, have to work with him next legislative session, or want his support.

I love those nicknames you've given Dewhurst. In our house, we call him the "undertaker". I've seen him speak several times at the state GOP conventions and its always a bore - no enthusiasm or passion.

I voted early for Cruz and have a sign in my yard (something I rarely do)
