This may appear to be a minor quibble, but my understanding is Neptune was organizing the Naval materiel and ships necessary to get the troops and equipment across, and Overlord was the actual beach landing. Neptune was I am sure a strategic and logistical challenge, but the real loss of life and ultimate sacrifice was done at/during Operation Overlord.

Regardless, for BHO to not memorialize the day is .......... well, I can't say incredible, since no one should be surprised anymore.

was one of the 195,700 naval personnel that day. He drove landing craft onto Omaha Beach and then picked up the dead in the water afterwards. On June 2, he had turned 19-years-old. Fate was with him on June 6, he bent over and when he looked up, his friend had been decapitated from shrapnel. Fortunately for us, he's still around at a young 87.

As I get older, the enormity of what he participated in becomes greater to me. A few years ago, I took him to the World War II Memorial in DC...several younger men stopped him to ask where he served and to thank him. That was an emotional day for him, and one I will remember forever.
