Counting Chickens in Texas

Some friends in Texas are privately worried about Ted Cruz. The polls are very close. David Dewhurst has vastly outspent him. There is a huge turnout happening in random places in Texas — lots of people showing up in the runoff who do not normally vote in runoffs, let alone in Republican primaries.

That could be a sign that people are really fired up for Ted.

That could be a sign that Dewhurst is beating the bushes trying to get Democrats and typically disengaged voters to save him.

The only way to ensure a victory for Ted Cruz today is for you, if you live in Texas, to go vote. If you do not live in Texas, track down any friends you have in Texas and get them to go vote for Ted Cruz.

We need him. Today is election day.

Made sure to get my vote in for Cruz last Thursday during early voting. Hubby is going today. Local radio host, Joe Pags, predicts a Cruz win and he has the markets in San Antonio & Houston.

You cannot imagine my surprise to see a LINE in early voting both coming and going. I spoke to the county registrar and she said the turnout was heavier than in the regular primary. I heard neighboring Bexar county (San Antonio) was heavy as well. The local TV station had incumbent Jeff Wentworth and TP fave Dr. Donna Campbell on last weekend and that race is just nasty. Wentworth is running scared.

It does my heart good to see Republicans hitting the polls. Crossing my fingers for Cruz!

I was under the impression that voters had to be registered Republicans to vote!

My husband and I both voted last Thursday for Ted Cruz. We both thought it was important to have a conservative in the Senate.

If the energy interests are backing Dewehurst the polls don’t matter,

but if they did not vote in the Primary – they are free to vote in either runoff.

    In another party’s primary…

I did call my sister early this morning, to remind her to go vote for Ted Cruz. Guess they have early voting, but she said they did vote for Ted Cruz. They live in the beautiful Hill Country near Lake LBJ.

According to the local paper, there are record Republican Party turn outs in the Angleton, Lake Jackson, Clute and Freeport early voting polling places.

The Democrats are showing record no-shows in comparison to past elections.

Hmm,, I wonder what that really adds up to. Everyone I know here (Lake Jackson) have voted for Cruz. I hope that’s the case across the state.

My wife and I each voted this AM. The ads by Dewehurst yesterday were non stop and they were comical/ yet depressing. Portraying Cruz as a typical washington lawyer, and Dewehurst as a flannel shirted, cowboy hat wearing common man who wants to triple the national guard and secure the border. Give me a break!

If rebulicans don’t see this as a Rubio/ Crist type referendum we are in trouble as a country.

I’m voting with my prayers out here in Cali. I smell a win in the air for Cruz. It will be awesome proof that the Tea Party is anything but dead.

2 more votes (me and hubs) for Ted Cruz….

    I’m replying to. Strange.

Me, husband, 3 kids and 2 spouses – spread out all over the state. Most of us voted early last week. Always taught my kids if they didn’t vote, they didn’t earn the right to complain.

Heard about noon today that turnout for early voting was lower than for the primary in May but today’s voting was looking very steady. This race will be all about turnout. Some of those Dewhurst ads are disgusting. He can’t run on his moderate record, so he’s spending his millions attempting to trash Cruz personally. (Hmmmm – sounds a little like another election in November?)

Will be watching returns anxiously tonight.

We don’t “register” voters by party in TX. Our primaries are open primaries (hence Limbaugh’s Operation whateverhecalledit to get Republicans out to vote for Hillary in 2008).

But the runoffs require that you either voted in the primary of the party having a runoff, or did not vote in any primary.

I voted by mail as I’m temporarily out of state. I’m figuratively holding my breath that any large turnout is not Democrats who skipped their primary now voting for Dewhurst, or the uninformed/disinterested who believed Dewhurst’s lies.

This has been one really nasty campaign, almost (if not) exclusively on the part of Dewhurst. At least it was totally Dewhurst up until the time I left the state (after voting in the primary for Ted).

Sent an e-Mail to all the kids reminding them to vote early and vote for Ted. Hopefully they will have encouraged their friends to do the same.

Don’t know how my comment wound up responding to this populist. I guess it is because I had been thinking about it.

And regarding DD: if it walks like a Democrat, talks like a Democrat, and lies like a Democrat…

Well, the youngest one. Just got an e-Mail from him:

“Well, had to work late and just made it to the polling place about 15 minutes before it closes. When the three ladies were siting at the Republican desk pulling my name up, there was a fly buzzing around them and one asked who let this fly in. So right off the bat I said in a low tone “The Democrats did it” Two of the ladies started laughing and the other one didn’t. She gave me a wounded look and said “I’m a Democrat.”
