Good morning from the RedState Gathering.

Last night we all hung out with Ted Cruz. It was a great night. In a few hours he’ll formally address the Gathering. Tonight we’re taking a cruise on the river with Governor Rick Scott. A good time will be had by all.

If you missed this year, next year we will be back in Atlanta for our fifth anniversary. At our first RedState Gathering we had Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ken Cuccinelli, and Pat Toomey. I’m going to do my best to put the band back together, so to speak, for next year. Hope to see you then.

1. Tax-Exempt Liberal Groups Exploit Gray Areas of Financial Disclosure Law

Colorado Common Cause, a political non-profit which aims to serve “the public interest, rather than the special interests,” is a political powerhouse with revenues of more than $6 million in 2011 alone. It first registered to operate in Colorado on October 4, 2002, and spent the next ten years raising money and directing it to liberal causes and candidates. Despite operating in the state as a clearly political entity since its inception, records show that Colorado Common Cause has failed to consistently file required disclosure reports with the state since 2003.

But Common Cause is not alone when it comes to refusing to file required disclosure reports. Liberal organizations in Colorado have been exploiting gray areas surrounding a 2005 amendment to a key financial disclosure law, intentionally refusing to file required periodic reports on time. Before the law was amended, any organization that failed to file its financial disclosure reports on time could be administratively dissolved.

2. Regulation Tidal Wave

A looming tax increase or the threat of higher unemployment usually receives a lot of attention in Washington, D.C. Many politicians can’t wait to lead a charge to avoid any hardship on the American families. But there is eerie silence on another front that is fast approaching our country: a tidal wave of costly federal regulations.

3. Scandal Redux: Catholic Relief Services Edition

For those who haven’t been watching, there’s another scandal brewing in the Catholic Church — this time with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the promotion of some very un-Catholic things.

The good folks over at Life Site News just uncovered a rather unsettling relationship between CRS and an organization called the CORE Group, but there seems to be more to the story than a simple working relationship.

4. Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA): Captain Ahab or Doctor Evil?

Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee, has a major obsession. Markey’s Great White Whale is called the Deepwater Royalty Relief Act of 1995.

In primary by Lt. Col. Courtney Rogers. This was a statewide effort by activists and backing of NRA.

Much stronger than expected. Expect the spin.

But it does show the risks of Team Romney’s strategy of relying on a weak economy.

I’d note that the numbers, strangely, are identical to the ADP’s.

U – 6 which is real unemployment went to over 15% – those jobs didn’t cover for the people who graduated college.

was at the upper end of the consensus figures but didn’t beat that consensus. Even still, it is fourth worst month in 2012 thus far. More importantly is the 8.3% unemployment rate, an increase from the last two months. Yes, Obama will focus on the 163,000 figure more than the 8.3%. But, is the latter that resonates more with voters. Incidentally, not based on any intermittent jobs reports, in a diary entry this past week I noted that the UE rate would increase in July based upon a drop in the ISM manufacturing index from the previous month. One affects the other and the ISM is a good predictor of electoral outcomes.

80,000 to 64,000 – my guess is we will have a revision down next month as well…since they seem to revise down every month. U-6 rate rose as well…

They added more than 400,000 jobs, the economy actually lost close to 200K.

Most economists have predicted an 8.5% U3 by Election Day. I see nothing in the trend-lines to predict anything contrary to that unless it is to revise the estimate higher (8.6-8.7%).

Either way, Obama is doomed. No sitting president wins re-election with economic numbers this terrible.

The report contradicts itself, but never mind, the propaganda must go forward.

My mom told me last night that the Tennessee Democratic Party has disavowed their nominee, Clayton, who won the primary to run against Corker. He is apparently the VP of Public Advocate of the U.S. which is against SS marriage and is labeled a hate group by the Southern Propaganda Law Center.

    From the story here:

Clayton said on his Facebook page that he is a vice president of Public Advocate of the United States. A statement on Public Advocate’s web site said Romney and Obama could learn from Clayton.

“The liberal cry babies who whine about Mark Clayton’s total and complete democratic victory refuse to accept blame for their own failed polices that drove Mark Clayton to a crushing electoral victory,” the statement said.

The site said that Public Advocate offers “strong and vocal opposition” to same sex marriage and “the furtherance of so-called ‘Gay Rights’.”

Clayton could not be reached at his home or at his campaign office Friday. Two people listed as campaign volunteers also could not be reached for comment.

Though the Democrats won’t support Clayton, they are not urging their party members to vote for Chattanooga Republican Corker, who pulled in 390,000 votes in his primary Thursday, 14 times the tally of his nearest Republican competitor.

“We’re just recommending that people write in a candidate, a local political figure they admire,” said Braisted. “The situation is fluid. There could be a more serious write-in candidate people can get behind.”

    HaHaHa! Liberal crybabies.

The “voters didn’t know Clayton” part was classic.
