CPAC: Not Quite Like the Media Matters Communications Room. But Still, Grow Up.

UPDATE: Melissa Clouthier has taken on the task of writing the same point about the young women, too many of whom were even more scantily clad than some of Fox News hosts. Stephen Glass was a fabulist. He made up stories and eventually he was caught. I read somewhere he wants to be a lawyer now, but his contrition is in doubt. One of the | Read More »

A Severe Conservative Speaks at CPAC

Mitt Romney got a warm reception at CPAC, standing ovations . . . the works. He did nothing to calm fears that he is not one of us. In fact, he might have made it worse today. He ad-libbed one particular portion of his speech that just may give away the game for him with the CPAC crowd. He threw in this line: “I fought | Read More »

    A Big, Big Win for Santorum . . . Errr . . . CPAC

Mitt Romney had a horrible, horrible night. Early yesterday, Mitt Romney’s campaign called Missouri a “beauty contest” and said to focus on Colorado. We did. Wow. I’ve said since Sunday that yesterday would be the first day of voting that Mitt Romney’s “poor” comment to Soledad O’Brien would have an impact. It typically takes a week for comments like that to be digested by voters. | Read More »

This is Too Much For Me

I have, for me, shown an amazing amount of restraint in keeping my mouth shut on an issue about which I can stay silent no longer — GOProud and CPAC. RedState’s parent company, Eagle Publishing, Inc., is a long time sponsor of CPAC. RedState itself is helping FreedomWorks sponsor Bloggers Row. We were the sole sponsor of Bloggers Row last year. I will be speaking | Read More »

Reciprocal Courtesy On a Bridge Too Far

Maybe had the libertarians done a better job of preventing their party from being overrun with libertines — a group of people who couldn’t care less about the size and scope of government as long as their desires for one night stands with a bag of weed and a tranny from 7th and Broadway are unimpeded by government — we wouldn’t be having these issues | Read More »

    The Leader

Many, many reporters have asked me who the leader of the conservative movement is right now or who the leader of the tea party movement is. They rarely report the answer, though they should be paying attention to it. In the CPAC straw poll, one name dominated the pack. With the highest favorable ratings (73%) and lowest unfavorable ratings (8%), Senator Jim DeMint of South | Read More »

The Good, The Bad, The Discordant, and the Uncomfortable

“Conservatism is on the ascendency. But it will ascend within the GOP, not via a third party.” Now that I’ve had twelve hours of sleep after four days of three hour nights, I can settle in and focus on the CPAC that was and was not. There was no dominant theme at CPAC this year, which was surprising. The Ron Paul kids were out in | Read More »

CPAC Straw Poll: Ron Paul Wins. CPAC Winner Rarely Get the Eventual GOP Nomination

For three straight years Mitt Romney won the CPAC straw poll — 2007, 2008, and 2009. In the key year of 2008, despite his win, John McCain was the nominee. This year, Ron Paul breaks Mitt Romney’s winning streak. Clearly Romney realized he was not getting a good return on his investment of organizing voters to vote — a regular phenomenon among potential candidates. 2,395 | Read More »

As CPAC Convenes In Washington, Orrin Hatch Tells Tea Party Activists to Shove It

One of the stories coming out of CPAC this year is the embrace of the tea party movement not by the Republican Party, but by the conservative movement. The issues of spending and smaller government are shared across the board. But while conservatives are embracing the tea party movement, Republican Senators continue castigating tea party activists and hoping they shut up and go away. The | Read More »

I’m just going to republish the press release that went out: The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) – a project of the American Conservative Union Foundation, in association with Young America’s Foundation and Human Events – is happy to announce that RedState.com will sponsor Bloggers Lounge. Rush Limbaugh at CPAC

At 5:00 p.m. today at CPAC, Rush Limbaugh will close out the show. The audience will be huge. The speech will be awesome. And we’ll be bringing it to you live on RedState. Oh, and if God smiles on me today, I’ll get to meet Rush. It may be a Saturday, but things haven’t slowed down. This is the best CPAC I’ve ever been to.

    Mike Pence at CPAC

One of the best decisions made this year by House Republicans was putting Mike Pence in charge of the House Republican Conference. Yesterday at CPAC, he proved it. Pence was dynamic, powerful, focused, and absolutely willing to call out other Republicans who totally failed the party and the conservative movement. His theme, from stage, was set early: How we, as conservatives, respond to these challenges | Read More »

    Mike Huckabee for Senate

See this line? Those are people waiting in a line that runs the length of the convention floor, turns, and wraps around of people waiting and waiting and waiting to meet Mike Huckabee and get his autograph on his book. That’d be one hell of an army of activists ready and willing to help in run for Senator from Arkansas next year. Maybe he’ll do | Read More »
