The CNN Debate: Where Has This Perry Been?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 18th at 10:04 PM |
My quick thoughts before I get back on radio (you can listen and call in): 1. Where has this Rick Perry been? Finally, the guy showed up with unscripted, from the gut answers. The few scripted answers fell flat (see e.g. Jeffres). The rest were good. He’s not the best debater. But he certainly did not lose that debate. 2. Rick Santorum is too angry | Read More »
Dear Republican Presidential Candidates
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 26th at 09:34 AM |
I realize I’m biased, but with the exception of the Tampa, FL CNN-Tea Party debate, I’ve been rather unimpressed with the debates. There are too many of you on the stage. There is not enough time to get into the substance of your answers. And you are all making it about each other instead of about Barack Obama. I happen to have a radio show | Read More »
I guess Barry decided he already won.
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 15th at 09:33 PM |
Tonight we finally saw what so many of us have been waiting for. John McCain mopped the floor with Barack Obama. Throughout the night, Barack Obama looked distant, like he did not want to be there, like he was annoyed. He really looked annoyed all night. McCain on the other hand looked like the comeback kid — the guy who knew he had to do | Read More »
CNN Goes All In On Race
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th at 10:34 PM |
First there was David Gergen tonight who said, “It’s too early to declare it over because Barack Obama is black.” Yes, he thinks the “Bradley Effect” could cost Obama 5 to 6 points. James Carville then chimed in and subtly hinted at massive riots if Obama loses going into the election ahead in the opinion polls. Then Paul Begala piled on calling Sarah Palin’s attacks | Read More »
The Debate Was Boring, But McCain Proved Himself While Obama Melted
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th at 09:38 PM |
First, this was the most boring debate so far. It was really boring. Second, John McCain gave the most substantive answers to the questions. Obama patently refused to answer some of the questions, including the last question. He couldn’t bring himself to admit there are things he does not know. Third, Obama’s holocaust answer is just astounding. Absolutely astounding that he’d say that. Fourth, there | Read More »
Intervening in the Holocaust?!
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th at 09:02 PM |
Barack Obama suggests we need to consider moral issues in intervening with combat forces. He mentions intervening in the Holocaust and how we should have done that. Um Senator, we did intervene in the Holocaust. It was called World War II. I guess you hadn’t heard of that, kind of like you hadn’t heard of Bill Ayers.
Obama the Whiner
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th at 08:56 PM |
I’m struck during this debate that Obama is really quick to cry foul. He tried to deviate from the rules to respond to McCain. Browkaw, to his credit, did not let him. In the healthcare issue, he proclaimed it a right and then said he had to ignore the time constrains because “Senator McCain threw a lot out there.” Obama is doing his best to | Read More »
The 2nd Debate Open Thread
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th at 06:34 PM |
It’s a townhall forum tonight in Nashville. Will we get some hippy freaks who want the candidates to play daddy? Will McCain punch Obama? Will Obama soil his panties?
Was it Botox?

Last night, roughly the same expression and no forehead wrinkles: BTW, Michele Malkin is just so awesome and her title is the best.
Palin Won. Ifill Showed Her Bias. Biden Embarrassed Obama While Palin Did Not Embarrass McCain. Paging Kathleen Parker et al
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 2nd at 10:24 PM |
Bumped up top by reader request so we can keep celebrating last night’s crushing victory by Palin before we get all depressed reading Pej and Blackhedd. Paging Kathleen Parker, Connor whatshisname, etc: If you still want to talk about Palin dropping out, you have beltwayitis and need to leave the NYC-DC corridor of talking heads and cocktail parties for the real United States. Botoxed Joe Biden Gets Field Dressed Like A Moose
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 2nd at 09:30 PM |
Sarah Palin just field dressed Joe Biden like a moose. She was awesome. She connected with the people. She had fun. She was relaxed. She was awesome. Biden literally blew this debate — sighing heavily in the microphone. Rolling his eyes. Being condescending. Flagrantly lying about policies that Palin repeatedly called him on. Ifill herself did wind up showing her bias. She rarely gave Palin | Read More »
Hey Gwen Ifill . . .

Are you ever going to let Sarah Palin have the last word?
Joe LIED on coal. Sarah called him out on it.

Sarah Palin is mopping the floor with Joe Biden
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 2nd at 08:18 PM |
Dear God this woman is on fire! Ha! I mean she’s really good tonight going back to the middle class. Last week, if you’ll remember, Obama kept referring to the middle class as “they,” i.e. “those people who I am not a part of.” Tonight, Palin says she and her husband are in the Middle Class. She can relate. That’s a big deal. Well done.
The VP Debate Open Thread

Put it in Cover It Live or put it in the comments. We’ll go through the evening giving some commenters access to the thread directly and will promote comments too. But be advised: we’re going to focus on covering the debate.
Gwen Ifill Should Not Moderate The Debate
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 1st at 10:18 PM |
As you probably know by now, Gwen Ifill, the debate moderator for the Vice Presidential Debate, has a financial interest in Barack Obama winning the election. Ifill is the author of The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, a new book scheduled for release on Inauguration Day. Its Amazon.com promotional statement says, “In ‘The Breakthrough,’ veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American | Read More »
“Me too, teacher. Me too.”
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 26th at 11:09 PM |
This one really came across as crass tonight. McCain points out the bracelet he has from the parent of a fallen soldier. Obama, naturally, has to point out that he has one too. Only Obama can’t remember any details. I’m reminded of President George H. W. Bush looking at his watch in the 1992 debate. Obama had to look down at the bracelet to remember | Read More »
What McCain Should Really Say
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 26th at 10:46 PM |
The next time Obama goes off on a McCain = Bush tangent in a debate, McCain needs to say, “Senator Obama keeps trying to connect me to President Bush, despite my repeated disagreements with the administration. My friends, let me be clear, I can pronounce ‘nuclear’.”
