Reliving the Convention

I went from the convention to a week at the beach (don’t worry, I worked) and didn’t get a chance to upload everything from the convention. Here are two shots to give you a feel for things. The first is the cheer for McCain: The second is the USA chant that shook the rafters:

    Substance Over Style

This past evening, Senator McCain walked down the stage and accepted the Republican nomination for President. Then he spoke. It was not a great speech. John McCain is no Sarah Palin. He is, however, a hard worker. The speech was the speech of a worker — of a fighter. Having watched it in the arena and just now on television, I must say it played | Read More »

    The Final Day’s Open Thread

As John McCain takes to the stage tonight, let’s have an open thread. The line up tonight, btw, isn’t that impressive until you get to the 10pm EDT hour.

    The Word Clouds

It is not too terribly difficult to find out what the message is of this convention. In two words, it is “John McCain”. Here is Sarah Palin’s word cloud from last night. Fred’s, Joe’s, Huck’s, Mitt’s, and Rudy’s are all below the fold. Note that the word “Obama” appeared only once in Sarah Palin’s speech.

BREAKING: Sarah Palin “Winged” Her Speech Because of “Broken” Teleprompter

Halfway through Sarah Palin’s speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text. According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani’s speech, | Read More »

Sarah Palin. An Amazing, Historic, Epic Win.

Sarah Palin took to the podium tonight and gave the speech of a lifetime, perhaps the best nationally broadcast political introduction in the convention history, and a knock out blow to the Obama-Biden campaign and their pals in the media. Governor Palin’s performance was phenomenal. It was amazing to be inside the XCEL Center listening, seeing the crowd’s reaction, and seeing Governor Palin take the | Read More »

Norm Coleman on Obama’s Work Experience

Norm Coleman on FOX tonight: “Barack Obama’s experience… he was a community activist in Chicago. Check out those communities. There is still some work to be done.”

GOP Convention Day 3 Open Thread

The convention starts shortly. I’ll go on and put this up for everyone to participate in.

Sarah Palin, Live From St. Paul

At 6:29 a.m. CDT, Sarah Palin is on the floor in St. Paul. She’s prepping for her big speech tonight. she looks confident. She does not, at all, look intimidated. We’ll see what happens with the crowd shows up, but right now, it looks like Sarah Palin has her game face on.

    MSNBC v. Al-Jazeera

Quick observation from the convention. Who has a better spot in the convention center, MSNBC or Al Jazeera? In the opinion of the crowd I’m with, Al Jazeera. MSNBC is pretty much behind the stage, with Al Jazeera next to them. Best seat? Fox News and CNN. Not that any of us should be surprised by that. I’ll have pictures as soon as I can | Read More »

    FredState at the Convention

This morning RedState and Google hosted a brunch for new media types with Fred Thompson. He gave a terrific speech. Michelle Oddis will have more later at Human Events, as will other attendees have more here. One of the great points Thompson made was comparing Palin and Obama’s experience. First, he pointed out how humorous it is that the Democrats are comparing their number one | Read More »

    Convention: Day 2

Day 2 of the convention starts today. President Bush will send a taped message. Joe Lieberman and Fred Thompson will be the prime time stars. This morning, RedState will be convening at the top of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown St. Paul to have brunch with Fred Thompson. The view is incredible. Afterwards, we’ll be headed to the XCEL Center for all the live | Read More »

    Connecticut Delegation Attacked By Protestors

Peace loving Obama supporters have attacked the Connecticut GOP delegation at the convention in a malicious attack. Covered here, protestors hurled clorox and water at the delegation. When Chairman Healy’s mother Lila was spat upon by a protester, former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons stepped between the elder Healy and the crowd. He was doused with a liquid substance that was later determined to be a | Read More »

    We’ve Left The Arena

Along with everyone else, we’ve left the arena. Show’s over for the day. The one thing we all agree we hate are the power hungry twenty-somethings who get put in charge of things like Blogger Row. For the most part, they were great, except for one jerk who threw us out of our room. We were assigned three chairs for eleven people. Right next to | Read More »

    Let’s Play A Game

    Spot the Texans:

    Prepping the Anthem

This just happened. The whole place went dead silent to listen. At the end — applause.

Josh Green Is Soooo Totally Full of It

Here is Josh Green talking about the Sarah Palin pick: Most Republicans have never met Sarah Palin and are processing the news of her selection as VP with the stunned-but-well-meaning emotions you might feel toward an acquaintance who just came out of the closet. Those given to caution when discussing such things at a brunch with journalists put a hopeful, might-be-a-stroke-of-genius spin on their astonishment. | Read More »

Another Day at the Office for the Democrat Attack Machine

As Hurricane Gustav is ravaging the coast of the Louisiana and the news media is breathlessly reporting flooding in the 9th Ward of New Orleans, exactly how are politicos responding? John McCain has ordered all negative statements about the Obama campaign stripped from the speeches at the convention. Tom Daschle is out attacking Sarah Palin saying she has “no experienced” and “are we ready . | Read More »

    BREAKING: Convention Back On?

The GOP Convention may very well get back on. Rumors are floating around the XCEL Center that the convention may be geared back up a few notches after Gustav came in weaker than expected. Here, though, is what some of the behind the scenes people are bristling about: The McCain Campaign has ordered all punches against the Obama campaign taken out of speeches for the | Read More »
