The Stupid Party Expands Government Again
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 28th at 04:46 AM |
House and Senate Republican leaders, collectively the Stupid Party, are yet again set to expand government, government spending, and engage in Keynesian economic policies they’ve criticized Barack Obama for. Somewhat wisely, they are releasing all this as the Supreme Court releases its Obamacare decision so no one will pay attention. Ironically, as we wait to see if the Supreme Court gives Congress plenary power through | Read More »
Now House Republicans Must Fight The Gang of 6′s Gangrene Plan
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | July 20th at 05:00 AM |
Think of the Senate “Gang of 6″ Plan as the “Gangrene Plan.” It will slowly, but surely, rot away the nation. It was presented yesterday with a few claims: (1) It was not designed to play a role in the debt ceiling debate; (2) It was not meant to undercut the House Republicans’ “Cut, Cap, and Balance” plan; and, (3) It would not be a | Read More »
Dear House Republicans: This Will Be Unacceptable
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 6th at 11:28 PM |
I am receiving extremely credible information that Friday morning House Republicans may put Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Let me be clear here: this would be an affront to conservatives of all stripes. It is bad enough the House GOP chose to ignore conservatives when it came time to choose chairmen of the Energy & Commerce Committee and of | Read More »
The Illusion With America
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 22nd at 10:23 AM |
The House Republicans are set to unveil the Contract with America Part II, which we already know based on history will be more an illusion than substance. We also know, based on early word about what is in there, that it will be an unmitigated spectacle of wasted opportunity. There will be good points we will all love. But what will be missing will make | Read More »
The Party of No
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | August 3rd at 01:17 PM |
Democrats spend a lot of time trying to pin the “Party of No” label on Republicans. But under Chairman Tom Price of Georgia, the Republican Study Committee (the caucus of social and economic conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives) has started a new series of emails to show—in very real terms—how the Democrats in the House really are the “Party of No.” Traditionally, including | Read More »

Dems Killing Access to Higher Education And Adding a Secret New Czar Too
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 17th at 06:00 AM |
While we are all focusing on H.R. 3200, the House Democrats’ health care plan, we should at least glance at H.R. 3221, the House Democrats’ plan to kill off higher education access. (PDF) The legislation is opposed by many major universities including Notre Dame, among others. Basically, the bill would shut down all private providers of student loans, drive up costs for universities, and become | Read More »

Democrats Lack the Votes to Pass Health Care Legislation in Latest Whip Count
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 14th at 02:59 PM |
The House Republicans have been passing around the information below. We got a copy of it and wanted to post it for you. In a nutshell, the Democrats lack enough moderates to pass H.R. 3200 with the government option and if they ditch the government option, the Democrats would lack enough liberals to pass it. Sucks to be them. Here is what the GOP is | Read More »
GOP Haggling With Dems Over Spending Bills
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | July 14th at 01:30 PM |
The House Democrats have shut their Republican counterparts out of the legislative process. Normally, the minority gets the right to offer amendments over spending bills, but the House Democrats have decided not to allow the GOP that right. The Democrats claim the GOP is slowing things down — you know, so members have time to actually read the legislation they are voting on, etc. Nonetheless, | Read More »

BREAKING: House Democrats Shut GOP Entirely Out of Process
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 16th at 08:27 PM |
The House Democrats tonight have denied Republicans the opportunity to offer any amendments at all on spending bills. Any. This is the first time in the history of our Republic that this has happened. Senate Republicans should stick up for their House brethren and shut down the Senate as the House GOP is now pretty much powerless.
Brad Sherman (D-CA) Takes On Obama Over Iran Funding
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 15th at 10:51 AM |
The Blue Dog Democrats have genuinely boxed themselves in lately on their consistency regarding Iran. On September 25, 2007, all the Blue Dog Democrats who were then in Congress voted in favor of H.R. 1400, the Iran Counter-Proliferation Act of 2007. The legislation would have prevented Iran from joining the World Trade Organization, imposed economic sanctions on the nation including banning the import of all | Read More »
Ask for a “Yes” vote on the Motion to Instruct
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 11th at 12:02 PM |
From Republicans in the House of Representatives: Our commanders in the field, Generals Petraeus and Odierno, oppose releasing photos of prisoner interrogations. General Petraeus has said, “Newly released photos depicting, or that could be construed as depicting, abuse of detainees in U.S. military custody in Iraq and Afghanistan would place U.S. servicemen in Afghanistan at heightened risk.” General Odierno has said, “I strongly believe the | Read More »

You only get to see the bill if you want to vote for it
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 12th at 12:21 PM |
Well this is a new one on me. According to Congressional Quarterly this morning, House Republicans led by Jack Kingston (R-GA), took to the House floor to demand to see Porkulus. Despite a unanimous vote of the House of Representatives to not vote on the bill until people had 48 hours to see it, the Democrats sought to back track and vote on Porkulus sight | Read More »
