A Tale of Budget Cowardice…and Courage
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 22nd at 11:00 AM |
“The U.S. House has never— NEVER —failed to pass a budget resolution since the current budget rules were put into place in 1974. Until today. ” So the Democrats have finally admitted they will not produce a budget plan this year. This is the ultimate in political cowardice. To understand how cowardly, one must understand what a budget plan really is. In short, a budget | Read More »
Come What May
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 21st at 08:56 PM |
There is still a chance, though increasingly slim, that the House GOP will be able to blow up the health care bill on a motion to recommit. There are going to be recriminations after this is over, but I’m going to try not to pile on. I had my say when the Senate GOP botched it. What was done was done. But whether this legislation | Read More »
Having Sat on His Hands Refusing to Help the GOP In Its Suicide Bid, But Remaining a Loyal Lieutenant, Mike Pence is Finally Free to Do What He’s Always Wanted
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 31st at 03:40 PM |
Mike Pence refused to endorse Dede Scozzafava. Being, however, the Chairman of the House Republican Conference, it really would have been bad form of him to go all in with Hoffman. Being in that position demands some party loyalty. So behind the scenes Pence has made clear he was unhappy with this whole sordid mess and has refused to cooperate or fund the madness. Clarifying Cantor’s Position
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 15th at 12:49 PM |
Apparently some folks have encountered an intern in Eric Cantor’s office who is doing the man no favors articulating his position on Joe Wilson. Eric Cantor was the first member of Leadership to stand with Rep. Wilson. On Sunday, he said that Rep. Wilson has already apologized, that the President accepted, and it was time to move on. Second, earlier today, at the House GOP | Read More »
Mike Pence at CPAC
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 27th at 01:51 PM |
One of the best decisions made this year by House Republicans was putting Mike Pence in charge of the House Republican Conference. Yesterday at CPAC, he proved it. Pence was dynamic, powerful, focused, and absolutely willing to call out other Republicans who totally failed the party and the conservative movement. His theme, from stage, was set early: How we, as conservatives, respond to these challenges | Read More »
You only get to see the bill if you want to vote for it
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 12th at 12:21 PM |
Well this is a new one on me. According to Congressional Quarterly this morning, House Republicans led by Jack Kingston (R-GA), took to the House floor to demand to see Porkulus. Despite a unanimous vote of the House of Representatives to not vote on the bill until people had 48 hours to see it, the Democrats sought to back track and vote on Porkulus sight | Read More »
Jeff Flake Headed to Oversight and Government Reform Committee
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 7th at 03:31 PM |
Conservative activists have been pushing hard for Jeff Flake to get on the Appropriations Committee. Sources on the Hill tell me this afternoon that at Jeff Flake’s request he will be put on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, not Appropriations. To be clear though, I’m told Flake realized last month that he did not have the votes on the Steering Committee for Appropriations and | Read More »
BREAKING: Don Young Withdraws
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 10th at 01:52 PM |
I reported this morning John Boehner told Don Young ($-AK) that Young would be opposed as ranking member on the Natural Resources Committee. House sources tell me Don Young has decided to withdraw from consideration for the position. This is great news.
John Boehner Stands Up to Don Young
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 10th at 06:00 AM |
This is some big news being leaked to RedState by a source on Capitol Hill. In a meeting yesterday afternoon, John Boehner informed Rep. Don Young that Boehner would not support Young’s candidacy to remain Ranking Member on the House Natural Resources Committee. It is very unlikely the Steering Committee will support Young either, which means he is toast. This is a great, great sign | Read More »
National Review Rains On the Show
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | August 26th at 09:23 AM |
Several conservatives in the House tell me they are hacked off at National Review for a blurb that appears in the print edition of the magazine this week. Here is what National Review writes: After the House adjourned for summer recess without voting on an energy bill, half a dozen Republicans stayed in the empty chamber, razzing the majority and calling for offshore drilling. Their | Read More »
