So Marlin Stutzman did not make it across the finish line and Dan Coats did. Well, we at RedState have always maintained that we are conservatives in the primary and Republican in the General. So we’re all in for Dan Coats. But along the way there is something more. Activists need to get their boots on the ground and get into the process to help | Read More »
As most all of us, including me, predicted, Dan Coats did win the Indiana primary tonight. But it is worth noting a couple of things: 1. Coats was held to about 40% of the vote. 60% voted against him. 2. The man in second place who got pretty doggone close was Marlin Stutzman, the man everyone said would come in third. 3. Stutzman won a | Read More »
From the mailbag. From: Shawn Mercer Subject: Indiana Senate Date: May 2, 2010 8:50:43 PM EDT To: contact@redstate.com Good choice, Erick. Because nothing says Senatorial like a FARMER named “Stutzman.” What’s the matter, couldn’t find a “Klem Kadiddlehopper” running? This habit of yours to immediately assume some kind of inherent superiority in purists of mediocre backgrounds is getting annoying. Yeah, non-Washington, populism, wisdom of the | Read More »
“Freedom means you take chances. Freedom means you fight. Let’s send Jim DeMint some reinforcements. Let’s send Jim DeMint Marlin Stutzman.” 48 hours from now, people head to the polls in Indiana. Let me let you in on a little secret. When I endorse and support a candidate, I get a lot more angry emails than I do supportive. That’s the way it works. For | Read More »
A Senate Conservatives Fund poll shows 30% of Indiana voters are undecided as of Thursday night. Stutzman has the firmest support, but he and Hostettler are tied at 18% with Coats at 28%. There is still a lot of movement out there and Marlin having such firm support is a huge advantage for him. It might be time for the Hostettler people to stand with | Read More »
The NRSC backed Arlen Specter and a year ago today Specter bolted. The NRSC backed Charlie Crist and today Charlie Crist is bolting. The NRSC is backing Dan Coats. Now, there is no way under the sun that Dan Coats would bolt the GOP. But can we trust the NRSC’s judgment that Coats is the best guy? Marlin Stutzman filed his financial disclosure. Coats has | Read More »
There is a rumor of a poll that went out in Indiana that was then not made public. Well, heck, I only call it a rumor because it happened but nobody wants to talk about it. My guess is, based on the Coats campaign’s behavior, the poll was either done for them or the results then given to them, making it an NRSC poll. That | Read More »
Across Indiana, Marlin Stutzman keeps winning straw poll votes among primary voters. The odds are that when the next polling comes out today or tomorrow, Marlin Stutzman is not going to be in first place. Dan Coats will. That is understandable. Coats has very high name recognition, having been elected repeatedly in the 80′s and 90′s. The trouble for Coats, however, is that momentum is | Read More »
The NRSC’s handpicked candidate in Indiana has hit some big obstacles on what he hoped would be a coronation in the GOP primary. After a disappointing fundraising haul, he’s refused to comply with Senate ethics rules by not submitting his financial disclosure forms. And now he’s now facing a surge by grassroots candidate Marlin Stutzman who has raised over $160,000 in just a few days | Read More »
Dan Coats knows he is in trouble in Indiana. Momentum is with Marlin Stutzman who just received endorsements from Mark Levin, David Keene, Jim DeMint, and an A+ rating from the NRA — the highest of any candidate running. So Coats is trying to get free media to say Mike Pence just endorsed him. In reality, way back in February when Coats entered the race, | Read More »
The NRA is sending out a postcard to its members in Indiana. You can see it here. The NRA is not endorsing in the race, but notes that only Marlin Stutzman has an A+ rating on the second amendment. The postcard also notes that Dan Coats is the only candidate to “cast anti-gun votes” in office. Go Marlin.
Marlin Stutzman has gone up on the air in Indiana. Let’s get this man elected.
The beat goes on folks. Jim DeMint is coming out for Marlin Stutzman. This comes on the heels of Dave Keene of the American Conservative Union and Mark Levin. Conservatives are rallying to the Indiana state senator. Here’s the thing: this endorsement puts Jim DeMint out on a limb and really at odds with his colleagues in the U.S. Senate Republican Conference, particularly coming on | Read More »
Conservatives have begun rallying en masse for Marlin Stutzman in Indiana. On Friday, Mark Levin endorsed Marlin Stutzman on the radio. This morning in Indianapolis Dave Keene of the American Conservative Union also endorsed Marlin. I suspect more are coming. Now Marlin Stutzman is going up on the air with ads. But he needs our help. Give what you can to Marlin Stutzman. Let’s get | Read More »
Time’s up conservatives. We must now unite and we must now rally to save Indiana from the Democrats. The time is now. There can be no more waiting. For months conservatives have sat on the sidelines in the Indiana Senate race. The NRSC dragged former Senator Dan Coats from North Carolina to Indiana and put him into the race. They said he would be warmly | Read More »
Not only did Dan Coats miss the filing deadline for his financial disclosures, he also failed to raise as much money as people were expecting. Doing nothing to tamp down expectations, the low side of the Coats haul was expected to be $500,000.00 and the high side to be $1 million. He only made it to $379,000.00. On the other hand, Marlin Stutzman keeps picking | Read More »
Geez. All but one candidate for the GOP Senate nomination have missed a deadline for disclosing their income and financial holdings. Marlin Stutzman, one of five contenders for his party’s nod, filed the required form, but the others have not. Their reports are 10 days overdue. I really don’t have anything else to add to that one. How do you miss your financial disclosure deadline?
As we head into the Indiana Senate primary in a few weeks, it is a good time to review a key fact. Dan Coats, during the confirmation fight of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, said: “There was a centuries-old tradition of respecting national electoral results by granting the President latitude in selecting nominees for the bench.” Only now that he is in his primary fight is Dan | Read More »
