Here it comes
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 12th at 08:58 AM |
Saul Anuzis has announced he is going to run for RNC Chairman, challenging Michael Steele. “We cannot be misled by our victories this year,” Anuzis wrote in an announcement posted on his blog. “Chairman Steele’s record speaks for itself. He has his way of doing things. I have mine.” Anuzis, clearly hoping to emerge as the choice of the anti-Steele forces within the 168 member | Read More »
Haley Barbour Concurs And Phones Are Ringing In RNC Land
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 9th at 10:18 AM |
While the RNC is pushing back against people like me for pointing out they did not mount a good GOTV effort because they sabotaged their 72 hour program, they’ll have a hard time pushing back against Haley Barbour. Barbour has, a bit surprisingly, gone on the record to say that the RNC’s get out the vote (GOTV) efforts were sub-par. Given just how effective the | Read More »
Me vs. Michael Steele
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | August 11th at 03:39 PM |
Someone has started a silly rumor that I will be challenging Michael Steele for RNC Chairman thanks, in part, to RedState’s tremendous win record so far this year in GOP primaries. Mixed into this rumor is the suggestion that I am somehow to be opposed because of my position on gun control. To clear this up and stop more reporters from calling me, let me | Read More »
If You Give Money to the Republican Party, You Subsidize Al Sharpton (Updated and Bumped)
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 19th at 05:58 PM |
I don’t have a problem with Michael Steele speaking to Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. The Chairman of the Party must sometimes go where they normally dare not tread. I have a huge problem using RNC donor money to subsidize the National Action Network. This is a flat out misappropriation of funds — a gross misappropriation of funds. One wonders the reaction if donors were | Read More »
Go With the Army You Have
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 5th at 10:17 AM |
I did not support Michael Steele for Chairman of the Republican Party, but was perfectly happy to give him a chance to prove himself. That all pretty much went out the window the moment he decided to start throwing the race card around against Republicans when feeling threatened. If Michael Steele left tomorrow, I would not cry. As it stands now, the RNC under Michael | Read More »
Michael Steele Plays the Race Card
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 9th at 10:37 PM |
Every time I try to give Michael Steele the bnefit of the doubt, he opens his mouth again. “I don’t see stories about the internal operations of the DNC that I see about this operation,” Steele said. “Why? Is it because Michael Steele is the chairman, or is it because a black man is chairman?” Talking to ABC News later in the day, the Chairman | Read More »
On Michael Steele
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 12th at 09:01 PM |
I’m never shy about dinging Michael Steele when I disagree with him or when he puts his foot in his mouth, but I’ve tried to make equally as clear that I really do like the guy. He’s extremely personable and funny. You can’t help but like a guy who poses for pictures with the interns like this.
A Response to Michael Steele
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 4th at 01:29 PM |
Folks, there are some serious questions as to the accuracy of the ABC News report linked to in this post showing a Steele quote criical of Palin, Pawlenty, and me. As a result, I’m yanking the post and digging into it. I’ll see what I can do to sort it out. Sorry for the inconvenience. This is bothersome. The actual video on which the interview | Read More »
Dede Scozzafava is Toast. But We Need $25,000.00 ASAP
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 14th at 12:30 PM |
Kudos to Michael Steele. The Politico is reporting what we said would happen some months ago. “Chairman Steele hasn’t put up a cent, not even the obligatory $5,000,” said a New York-based GOP operative. “There’s been no support from the RNC. Democrats are going all out for this race. Everyone’s in the same direction.” Here is what I have been able to confirm about NY-23 | Read More »
Michael Steele is tasting shoe leather again
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | August 24th at 05:20 PM |
Is it really helpful for the leader of the Republican National Committee to say “I agree with you. And when stuff gets in the crapper, you gotta clean it out” after the host of the radio show he is on just spent a few minutes bashing the presumptive Republican nominee for the United States Senate in Missouri, Roy Blunt? The radio host, Vincent David Jericho, | Read More »
Is Michael Steele About to Have Another No Good, Low Down, Rotten, Very Bad Week?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 11th at 07:28 PM |
That may be the case. In an interview with GQ, Michael Steele sounds very much like he is declaring himself pro-abortion. Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion? Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice. You do? Yeah. Absolutely. Now, to be fair, his solution is a federalist solution to let the individual states decide — a | Read More »
Michael Steele’s No Good, Low Down, Rotten, Very Bad Week
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 3rd at 05:06 PM |
A lot of readers sent me a link to Michelle’s post on Steele, Hughley, and the Nazis. Good Lord did Steele really botch this interview. I thought he was an articulate spokesman. Hughley tells Steele the Republican Convention looked like a Nazi party gathering in Germany. Steele’s response? Well, here’s the unedited transcript from CNN covering that portion of the interview: HUGHLEY: Well, Michael, I | Read More »
“How do ya like me now?”
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 2nd at 03:07 PM |
This past Wednesday night, RedState and Human Events held a party welcoming back Republicans to Congress. Our special guest and keynote speaker was Michael Steele. In his opening remarks he mentioned RedState not endorsing him. He said he could get over it, but would say to me (calling me out by name) what Obama said after he secured the nomination — “How do ya like | Read More »
Steele Might Aid Primary Challengers
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 24th at 11:52 AM |
Wow. Well done, Michael Steele. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says that he might support primary challengers against the three GOP senators who voted in favor of the stimulus package. Asked if he was open to the move during an interview Monday on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” Steele said, “Oh, yes, I’m always open to everything, baby, absolutely.” Let’s be clear. | Read More »
Congratulations To The Man of Steele
By: The Directors (Diary) | January 30th at 05:13 PM |
Congratulations to Michael Steele on his victory in the hotly contested race for Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The former Maryland Lieutenant Governor was not our first choice for this spot, given our concern that he was not the most conservative choice in the race. But he is an eloquent and persuasive spokesman for the party and an impressive man, and we wish him | Read More »
Does Michael Steele Have a Potential Ethics Conflict on His Hands?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 29th at 10:59 PM |
I have, for some time, been on a tirade against the self-dealing, back scratching, and incestuous relationship among GOP consultants. The Democrats have had their own problems with the issue. To be sure, there are some consultants and consulting firms that are must use. But not all of them. To his credit, Michael Steele recognizes the same problem and sent out an email to RNC | Read More »
Where the RNC Race Stands
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 28th at 12:21 PM |
Having said the other day that I though Ken Blackwell was unfortunately not picking up traction, I’ve talked to several people who disagree and make a very persuasive case for Blackwell. At the same time, the colossal mud slinging going on is getting funnier by the day and nastier. Here’s the scenario laid out right now.
Where the RNC Chair’s Race Stands
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 26th at 12:00 PM |
There are two men at the top of list for RNC Chairman: Mike Duncan and Katon Dawson. One of them will be the next chairman. I’m not saying this because I want them, though truth be told I’d be happy with either. I’m saying this because I’ve been surveying RNC members and people on the outside. It seems very clear this is where we stand. | Read More »
Rumor of the Day
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 24th at 01:25 PM |
I hear that Ken Blackwell, the former Secretary of State of Ohio, is seriously considering throwing his hat into the ring for RNC Chairman against Michael Steele. Blackwell is active in the NRA, the National Taxpayers Union, and also is a big Club for Growth fan. Some of the people I talked to this morning said that Blackwell, like Steele, is a fresh face for | Read More »
More on Michael Steele
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 19th at 10:18 AM |
We are in the process of putting some questions out that we hope each of the candidates for RNC Chair will answer. I’ve already raised some questions about Michael Steele, particularly regarding his time with the Republican Leadership Council and his stance on abortion. I’ve had a lot of people call me since that posting — mostly people who like Michael Steele and a few | Read More »
