Intentional or Not, Pat Toomey Shows America the Democrats Care Nothing for Our National Security
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 17th at 04:45 AM |
It is one of the quintessential pillars of the Republican Party — no new taxes. George H. W. Bush got thrown out of office for violating that pledge. But Pat Toomey, Senator of Pennsylvania, is proposing new taxes. He’s proposing $300 billion in new taxes, largely through restructuring and simplifying the tax code. But they are new taxes. So we have the GOP willing to | Read More »
Who Can Help Pat Toomey?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 18th at 12:16 PM |
Having driven Arlen Specter out of the party and now on the verge of winning Pennsylvania, we owe a great deal to Pat Toomey. Can any of you help? Toomey needs boots on the ground in Pennsylvania. With 15 days before the election, the more the merrier. If you are interested in heading to Pennsylvania to help Pat Toomey, email RedState@toomeyforsenate.com. They’ll have somebody monitoring | Read More »
Conservatives Have Won Nothing. You Read It Right. NOTHING.
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 1st at 10:24 AM |
It has come to this, I’m afraid. We need to keep our perspective. Conservatives have won nothing. Nothing. Ken Buck you say? Sharron Angle? Mike Lee? Pat Toomey? Marco Rubio? Joe Miller? Rand Paul? Nikki Haley? Here, pay attention: they are all candidates. Yes, yes — we won primaries. Contrary to popular opinion that conservatives wanted a purge of party, we instead played smartly — | Read More »
The Model Candidate: Pat Toomey
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 8th at 11:47 AM |
When Joe Scarborough and I talk each week on the radio, we frequently mention that former Congressman Pat Toomey is the model candidate for the Republican Party. Though Pat Toomey is pro-life, his campaign focuses on jobs, business, regulation, and the free market. Back at the RedState Gathering in August (the next one will be announced very shortly), Pat Toomey gave me a copy of | Read More »
Your Call: Will Moderates Take Over?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 1st at 09:23 AM |
I want and need you to pay serious attention to this. The Los Angeles Times is running a story today about the rising tide of moderates sweeping into the GOP. This will only happen if you let it. Rep. Michael N. Castle, one of the most liberal Republicans in the House, is heavily favored to win an open Senate seat in Delaware. Rep. Mark Steven | Read More »
Passion, Risk, And Reward
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 19th at 05:00 AM |
“Extraordinary times call for bold risk and leadership. These are extraordinary times. If we fail, we are no worse off than we were before. But if we win, the rewards will be much, much greater.” Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey showed true and very real leadership yesterday at CPAC. To understand why, and I hope conservative groups and tea party activists read this post | Read More »

15 Days and We’re Not Meeting the Goal
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 16th at 11:24 AM |
No sense in being coy about it. We’re not meeting our goal. In fact, the fundraising for these four sucks. I know cash is tight, but unless conservatives are willing to step up to the plate, we’re not going to get these guys elected and, frankly, the establishment of the Republican Party will keep ignoring us. Let’s be honest. One of the reasons the left | Read More »
15 Days For the Conservative Fighting Four
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 15th at 01:56 PM |
Have you given yet? Imagine a world where Marco Rubio, Chuck Devore, Pat Toomey, and Michael Williams work together in the Senate with Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn. Imagine a world where they push the GOP to the right in the Senate and stop the culture of capitulation. Give what you can. Embed this same widget on your website. Let’s raise them some money.
Supporting the Conservative Fighting Four
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 14th at 05:30 AM |
I won’t call this the “screw the NRSC” fundraiser, but I’m sorely tempted. Each of you has a favorite Senate candidate this cycle. Here are four guys we want to see in the Senate. Let’s try to raise them $250,000.00 in the next 20 days. Click on the guy you like, learn a little about him, and give him some money. Together, we can move | Read More »
An Amazing Time
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | August 2nd at 01:51 PM |
As you can tell, we’ve been away and busy at the RedState Gathering. Liz Cheney spoke. She was amazing. “America needs a commander in chief,” she said, ” not a global community organizer.” Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, Michael Williams, Ken Cuccinelli, Karen Handel, Tom Price, Pat Toomey, Roy Blunt, Jim DeMint, and Rick Perry all joined us in person or via video. About Darn Time
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | July 14th at 05:27 PM |
The NRSC has finally, finally, finally endorsed Pat Toomey in his race for the United States Senate in Pennsylvania. I’m surprised they didn’t endorse Arlen Specter. Nonetheless, it is about time and the extra money will help. Toomey had really stellar fundraising numbers in the last quarter and he will be at the RedState Gathering.
Why the NRSC and PAGOP Should Not Waste Time With Gerlach
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | May 3rd at 08:38 PM |
Rumors abound that the Pennsylvania GOP and/or the NRSC are flirting with both Jim Gerlach and Tom Ridge. We know Tom Ridge cannot win in Pennsylvania again in a Republican Primary because of the changed dynamics and demographics from the last time he ran. But what of Jim Gerlach? The PAGOP and NRSC are flirting with him because Gerlach regularly wins re-election as a Republican | Read More »
If you live in Pennsylvania
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 30th at 04:45 PM |
There is a big call that will happen tonight among Pennsylvania Republican Party Executive Committee members. I’m hearing there will probably be over 100 people involved. If you know your local party chair, I encourage you to call that person and tell them to get behind Pat Toomey. The Politico is running a story today that suggests the PAGOP establishment and the NRSC are trying | Read More »
Blackballing Toomey and Hating DeMint
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 29th at 10:51 AM |
In what I can only believe is coordination with the Senate GOP Leadership because everyone is on the exact same talking point, I am more than a little disappointed with the wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from the Republican commentariat. The other day, Senator Jim DeMint told Arlen Specter that DeMint would be backing Toomey. Somehow he is to blame for Specter jumping to | Read More »
Is the NRSC Maneuvering to Push Tom Ridge?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 28th at 10:43 PM |
Will the NRSC staff push former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge to get into the Pennsylvania primary against Pat Toomey? It would not surprise me to learn that they are leaning that way, convinced that Pat Toomey cannot win, but someone a close friend of George W. Bush and a pro-abort candidate can win. People seem to forget that Pat Toomey, while in Congress, regularly won | Read More »

Toomey Beats Specter
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 24th at 11:39 AM |
Pat Toomey is beating Arlen Specter by 21% among Republican Primary voters in Pennsylvania according to Rasmussen. Incumbent Senator Arlen Specter trails former Congressman Pat Toomey by 21 points in an early look at Pennsylvania’s 2010 Republican Primary. Fifty-one percent (51%) of Republican voters statewide say they’d vote for Toomey while just 30% would support Specter. Specter is viewed favorably by 42% of Pennsylvania Republicans | Read More »
