Gingrich & The Rick Perry Factor
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 23rd at 04:46 AM |
It was the last debate. Newt Gingrich won it. He was the only candidate who repeatedly steered the questions toward Barack Obama. He was the only candidate who dared point out that the media barely touched Obama’s infanticide support as an Illinois State Senator. He returned to the role of elder statesman. The crowd leaned to Mitt Romney. It was probably inevitable. Mesa, AZ is | Read More »
The Last Debate?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 20th at 04:46 AM |
Today is a holiday here at RedState, but I’m doing laundry, packing, and preparing to fly out to Arizona. On Wednesday night, CNN will bring the nation what may very well be the last debate in the Republican Presidential Primary season. From Mesa, AZ, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul will take the stage one last time. At least we can presume | Read More »
The Fat Lady Hasn’t Sung, But She’s Warming Up
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 31st at 10:18 PM |
If I were a national Republican operative, I’d be very worried about tonight. If I were a Mitt Romney fan, I’d be ecstatic. The Romney win in Florida was huge. He won the hispanic vote. He split tea party activists and evangelicals. He won where people live. Gingrich won the panhandle and largely tied in the few northern Florida population centers, but it was Romney’s | Read More »
The Jacksonville Brawl
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 27th at 04:47 AM |
I’m biased, but I think the real winner last night was CNN and I feel confident I’d say that even if they didn’t send me a paycheck. After that disastrous and embarrassing NBC debate, Wolf Blitzer held his own, did not get devoured by Newt Gingrich, and engaged in a lot of substance without a lot of random questions like . . . oh . | Read More »
The Mental Derangement of Ron Paul’s Campaign
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | January 7th at 05:50 PM |
Supporters of Ron Paul produced a hit job on Jon Huntsman attacking Huntsman over his adopted daughter. His daughter, ftom China, was left for dead in a market and the Huntsmans intervened, got her back to good health, and adopted her. Someone put up a video attacking Huntsman adoption as proof that Huntsman is a foreign agent. The video began circulating among Ron Paul supporters | Read More »
So Hang On A Minute
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 22nd at 01:53 PM |
Let me get this straight. Twenty years ago someone put some crazy, racist stuff in newsletters bearing Ron Paul’s name and written in the first person as if they were from Ron Paul. Ron Paul never read them. Ten years ago, when confronted with some of the crazy stuff (I’m trying really hard not to use “crazy s**t” here), Ron Paul says he wrote them, | Read More »
The Ron Paul Newsletter and His Jeremiah Wright Moment
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 22nd at 04:45 AM |
If you’ve been under a rock somewhere recently you may not know that Ron Paul published a bunch of crazy, racist newsletters in the late 80′s and early 90′s. Ron Paul, ten years ago, took responsibility for the content, even admitted at one point that he had written some of them. Today, Ron Paul claims he knew nothing about them even though they generated around | Read More »

I Hope Ron Paul Does Win Iowa
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 8th at 10:06 AM |
Over at National Review, Robert Costa writes that there is a very real chance Ron Paul could win Iowa. Of all the candidates running for President, I have never been accused of supporting Ron Paul. But in this I do. I hope he does win Iowa. I hope he wins Iowa for a variety of reasons, but first and foremost because Ron Paul has run | Read More »
My Confession
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 7th at 04:46 AM |
The problem with Mitt Romney is the inconsistencies in his record. The problem with Newt Gingrich is the consistency of his record. I will support either of these men against Barack Obama. Either would be better. (Quick: My new favorite website) I support Gingrich over Romney because Gingrich fights and I don’t ever have to doubt where he stands on an issue. I trust Gingrich | Read More »
Will Iowa Be the GOP’s Version of Gephardt vs. Dean?
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | December 6th at 04:46 AM |
Mitt Romney has to win New Hampshire. His own campaign has set those expectations. If he does not win New Hampshire it is game over for Mitt. Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, expectations have been set so high for him in New Hampshire, a win might not be enough if the win is close. And right now Newt Gingrich is surging in New Hampshire. He has | Read More »
Time to Reconsider the Conversations With Candidates
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 12th at 04:45 AM |
In light of that tragedy of a debate last night, I want to reiterate this. We’re open to all of the candidates who participated last night doing this: Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich, Huntsman, Paul, Perry, Romney, and Santorum. You’ll get a better shot at answering better questions in a one on one format. ———————————————– Dear Candidates: This letter is written on behalf of Brent Bozell with | Read More »
Dear Candidates: An Invitation to Have A Conversation
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 5th at 11:36 AM |
Below is a letter that will be going out to each campaign for President from me. The campaigns will get additional information beyond what is in this public release, including more expansive information on the media, broadcast information, contact information, etc. But we want to make this available publicly because of the number of inquiries we’re all getting about what we are doing and also | Read More »
I Hate You
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 3rd at 11:50 AM |
Since I managed to make just about every Sarah Palin fan on earth mad on Friday by quoting Palin, I decided I would go on and make everyone else mad too. I keep getting the “you’re Rick Perry’s guy” stuff now, which follows on the “you’re Tim Pawlenty’s guy” and the “you’re MIchele Bachmann’s guy” and the “you’re Herman Cain’s guy”, all of with mix | Read More »
LIVE FROM FLORIDA — No One Except Ron Paul
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | September 12th at 04:45 AM |
I’m in Tampa, FL for the CNN-Tea Party Express Republican Presidential Debate. The debate begins at 8pm on CNN. I’ll be on WSB Radio from 5pm to 7pm doing a “pre-game” show and then, starting at 7pm, I’ll be on CNN the rest of the night. When the debate starts, Michele Bachmann intends to join Mitt Romney in defending social security against Rick Perry and | Read More »
The Horserace for July 7, 2011
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | July 7th at 12:00 PM |
IA Caucus: Feb. 6, 2012 NH Primary: Feb. 14, 2012 (expected) SC Primary: TBD NV Caucus: Feb. 18, 2012 Michele Bachmann has caused a mystery and a feeding frenzy in the press. What’s her number? Not her phone number. Her bank balance. It is the big question in Washington and in political circles across the nation — how much money has Michele Bachmann raised? Sources | Read More »

Bachmann, Gingrich, and Romney. Oh My! And Then There’s Rick Perry.
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 14th at 05:00 AM |
I think Mitt Romney did not just win the New Hampshire debate by holding his own, but legitimately won it with his answers and composure. He was unnecessarily defensive on the Afghan question, but largely showed his experience with Presidential debates. The surprise last night was Michelle Bachmann. If there was a winner of the anti-Romney coalition, Michelle Bachmann not only won, but won by | Read More »
This Week’s Horse Race
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | June 1st at 01:40 PM |
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done one of these. A lot has happened since then. Let’s get started and, again, we’ll go in alphabetical order. Just note that I’m putting Sarah Palin and Rick Perry outside the list, since they are just speculation right now and I want to deal with them first, above the fold. Sarah Palin I still think Sarah Palin | Read More »

On Zealots and Zealotry
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | May 25th at 04:52 PM |
I want to spend some time talking about zealots and zealotry. Already, the situation is growing out of hand, and I expect it to get even worse as we head further into campaign season. The Rebecca Mansour situation yesterday was a case in point. I cannot tell you the number of people who read the Daily Caller article and still emailed me under the belief | Read More »
The Horse Race for This Week
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | May 19th at 03:04 PM |
I think I’ll start doing this every week. The feedback, both from you guys and from others who are trying to keep up with the pulse within the conservative grassroots has been very positive. Feel free to disagree. I’m just giving you my honest take on where I see the 2012 horse race right now. Last week I took a bit of heat from Dan | Read More »
