Israel Survival Updates — 17 February 2011 — At what point does Israel simp…… Never mind.

Good Morning.

It’s 12:30am here on the east coast of what’s remaining of America and 6:30am in Israel, so we may as well start right in on today’s news.

Will enter additions as warranted, the first few in this main panel, then as separate comments.

=== === === === ===

Egypt.

Anarchy In The Sinai Peninsula.

The recent revolution in Egypt has had its effect on the Sinai Peninsula as well. Mass demonstrations by the Egyptian police have broken out in the northern Sinai in recent weeks, the Palestinian Authority-based Ma’an News Agency reported on Wednesday. According to the report, the demonstrators are protesting against their low quality of living as well as against the fact that they are forced to live in constant danger of death and kidnappings.

Ma’an reported that the demonstrators gathered in front of the security administration building in the northern Sinai and demanded that the rules of martial law cease to be applied to them, that their wages be raised and that protection be offered to them from gunmen who chased after them and burned down their homes in the city of El-Arish. They also demanded that security director Mohammad Najib and his assistant be dismissed from their positions.

The Muslim Brotherhood is playing all sides against each other, so they can ride in on their (Trojan) horse and ‘save the day’.

Washington D.C.

US seeks to tighten sanctions against Iran.

WASHINGTON – As protesters take to the streets in Tehran and the Obama administration heightens its rhetoric against Iran, the US Congress is also looking to turn up the heat on the regime.

A new bill introduced on Wednesday seeks to tighten the American sanctions regime by requiring publicly traded companies and their affiliates to report their Iranian links to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Sanctions against Iran.   Who’s kidding who ?

As Daffy Duck once said, “Ha ha.  It is to laugh.”

=== === === === ===

Pakistan.

Pakistan court adjourns U.S. prisoner case.

(Reuters) – A Pakistani court adjourned on Thursday without announcing whether U.S. consulate employee Raymond Davis, who shot and killed two Pakistani men last month, is protected by diplomatic immunity.

The case has triggered the worst diplomatic row in recent history between strategic allies Pakistan and the United States, and has fueled anti-American sentiment in the country.

The case was adjourned till March 14.

Lovely.  Just bloody lovely.

Where’s Team 7 when you need ‘em ?

=== === === === ===

Bahrain.

The nation is catching fire.

Riot police storm Bahrain camp ; 2 reported dead ; Square filled with tear gas clouds……

Hours after police retook control of the plaza, the tiny island nation was in lockdown mode. Tanks and armored personnel carriers were seen in some areas the first sign of military involvement in the crisis. Police checkpoints were set up along main roadways and armed patrols moved through neighborhoods in an apparent attempt to thwart any mass gatherings.

Barbed wire was put up around Pearl Square and a message from the Interior Ministry declared the protest camp “illegal.” The air still carried the smell of tear gas more than four hours after the assault.

Remember, Bahrain is where our 5th Fleet is based.

I’ll add this: The ‘Foreign Policy’ blog page was not sourced, offered no confirmation and contradicts another highly sourced blog at the same site from yesterday.

You’re gonna see all sorts of insanity throughout the interwebby and in the media until the vote itself.

But I base my opinions and thoughts on facts and actualities, so right now, there’s nothing to go on as to what our president and the administration has been ordered to do will do.

That being said, I put nothing past the administration and their owners…… Nothing.

…… Did the Iranians realize they were about to start and badly lose World War IV all on their own ?

Iran’s warships did NOT transit to The Med.

Video report from Israel National News featuring Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

This morning, it was abruptly reported that Egyptian forces were not allowing the ships to pass. However, other reports stated that Iran turned the ships back on its own.

Security sources who wished to remain anonymous told Israel Radio that Israel is monitoring the situation carefully, although it cannot prevent Iran from sailing through international waters.

?The international community must understand,? Lieberman warned, ?that Israel will not be able to ignore these provocations forever. Unfortunately, the international community has not showed willingness to deal with the Iranian provocations.?

    With apologies to Lou Monte……

Please Mr. Imadinnerjacket turn-a da ships around !
Take me back I want to feel my pet goat reach around !
Why you tell-a da Mullah fellas that-a da world is round ?
Please Mr. Imadinnerjacket turn-a da ships around !

Jerusalem Post just published this article ten minutes ago:

Iran plans to cross the Suez Canal, despite reports to the contrary, Press TV reported on Thursday.

The Iranian news station also said that “Egyptian authorities believed there was nothing wrong with the passage.”

Earlier on Thursday, a senior Suez Canal official said two Iranian warships had withdrawn their application to transit the waterway following expressions of concern by Israel over the plans.

The official said no reason was given for Thursday’s decision to withdraw the application. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, also said it was not known if the vessels intended to transit the waterway at a later date.

The official identified the two vessels as Alvand, a frigate, and Kharq, a supply ship, and said they were en route to Syria. He said they were now in an area near the Saudi Red Sea port city of Jiddah.

Alert the silos, get the bombers warmed up in the bullpen……

It seems that he, and Netanyahu, are pleading with somebody in the US, anybody, to *say something*. This is not just a few rockets being lobbed here and there, this is a prelude to war, and if it comes, it will not be the resultof Israeli intransigence, the blood will be on the hands of BOTH the collectivist-statist coalition of Obama/Clinton and parties AND the politically-correct-to-a-fault clueless conservative opposition.
I have been around for six plus decades and been at least casually observant for five plus and I have never seen an adminstration or a Congress *seemingly* so disengaged at a time of such possibility of international disaster, disruption of supply lines and all the rest of it. I understand the budget and the deficit and the economy and the GDP and the EPA and the FCC and all of that, but somebody needs to be hauling somebody (the military up to capitol hill to explain to the American people how our interests are being protected, because we have the internet now and people aren’t going to payany attention to what Obama says. Regardless of how well organized the Muslim Brotherhood is, with the combination of a few strategic pipeline/waterway blockages in the Mid East and what O and Co. have done to oil production here, this could all come to a head real fast.

I know, Kenny, but there is only one of you. Do you sleep? :-)

    Article at Ynet News.

Citizens take to the streets on ‘Day of Rage’ against regime. Reports claim at least 14 killed as protests break out across 4 cities.

The two major points of the post are as follows:

    1. The source for much of this news out of Libya is “Human Rights Watch”, so I’m surprised that nowhere in the article is it mentioned that this is all BushPalinBeck’s fault. Most of the remainder of the sources are not in Libya either. JANA – the Libyan state run news agency – was used in the article as well.

    2. The last line of the article:

The Libyan government maintains tight control over the media and the reports couldn’t be independently confirmed.

But it’ll all be run with as pure fact anyway.

Sorry, but I’m way too typically bitter and clinging when it comes to The Muslims and especially The Muslim Brotherhood. Just like our own administration, I put nothing past any of them.

Except in Islam, total deception, lying and much more are perfectly ok when dealing with us infidels. It’s called taqyia.

Do I think it’s all fake ? No, no way. There are some genuinely freedom-starved people looking for their way.

But I do believe it’s all coordinated, some of it staged and overall a feint to hammer in place The MB as ruler or all Muslim nations and true freedom-seekers are being set up as literal cannon fodder.

    The Jerusalem Post

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday that elections in September would be canceled if Hamas refused to allow voting in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported.

“Elections should include the West Bank and Gaza,” Abbas commented at a news conference. He added, “without that we cannot hold elections.”

The Palestinian Authority president’s proclamation comes after an Abbas aide told reporters Thursday that elections would be carried out regardless of Hamas’s decision to participate, implying that elections would be carried out in the West Bank even if Hamas kept Gazans from casting their votes.

I’ll re-write that headline and complete article in only one sentence:

No elections if Hamas cannot select and then elect every candidate of their choosing.

Um…… Make that ‘Looks like they’re moving to Muslim Brotherhood Law.

Army locks down Bahrain, police storm protest.

MANAMA, Bahrain ? Army patrols and tanks locked down the capital of Bahrain after riot police swinging clubs and firing tear gas smashed into demonstrators, many of them sleeping, in a pre-dawn assault Thursday that uprooted their protest camp demanding political change. Medical officials said four people were killed.

Hours after the attack on Manama’s main Pearl Square, the military announced on state TV that it had “key parts” of the capital under its control and that gatherings were banned.

The developments marked a major crackdown by the island nation’s rulers to put an end to days of protests inspired by Egypt’s revolt against Hosni Mubarak. Tiny Bahrain is a pillar of Washington’s military framework in the region. It hosts the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, which is a critical counterbalance to Iran’s efforts to expand its clout in the region.

The capital Manama was effectively shut down Thursday. For the first time, tanks and military checkpoints were deployed in the streets and army patrols circulated. The Interior Ministry warned Bahrainis to stay off the streets. Banks and other key institutions did not open, and workers stayed home, unable or to afraid to pass through checkpoints to get to their jobs.

Remember something from yesterday’s Israel Survival Update entry ?

The Saudi’s sent troops to assist the Bahrain government.

Also of a purely minor note, The US 5th Fleet is based in Bahrain.

    Nothing…… To…… See…… Here.

appears to be the Prime Minister. Despite being a Sunni monarch in a 70% Shia country, the King is not terribly unpopular; however, his uncle the Prime Minister is widely considered an avaricious dirtbag. So I’m not surprised to see calls for him to step down. I’d use his political survival/demise as the metric of success of whoever is orchestrating this.

The Saudi tanks in Bahrain are also not surprising, as Bahrain is essentially a Saudi puppet state, and an opening for an Iranian foothold there would be a very, very bad thing. Funny, though, I always thought that the Saudi monarchy would come under attack first, followed by Bahrain.

AP report at The Jerusalem Post.

http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=208609>Anti government protests in Iraq. At least 3 dead, at least 55 injured.

BAGHDAD – The governor of a remote southern Iraqi province was forced to flee Wednesday when protesters stormed his headquarters during violent demonstrations that illustrated the potential for upheaval in Iraq’s new, and still shaky, democracy.

The violence erupted after local police opened fire on demonstrators protesting poor services and corruption outside the governorate of Wasit province in the city of Kut, killing three and wounding more than 50, according to Capt. Mahdi Abbas of the province’s emergency police force.

The angry crowd then attacked the building as the governor escaped through a back door with his bodyguards, Abbas said. Footage broadcast on Iraqi television showed black smoke billowing from the headquarters as protesters clambered over walls into the compound.

    Everybody at the same time…… “It’s Bush’s Fault !”

    Article at Israel National News.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu says that though some revolutions have brought about positive results, others have not, such as those in Russia 100 years ago, Iran and Lebanon.

In Egypt, he said, Israel’s main concern is that Egypt not resume the state of war with Israel.

“?As Prime Minister of Israel, I am responsible for the security of over 7 million Israelis who live in the one and only Jewish state. I cannot simply hope for the best; I must also prepare for the worst. Part of that preparation is to alert the leaders and policymakers around the world to the possible dangers that may lie ahead? because I have a responsibility to do whatever I can to increase the chances that they don’t materialize?”

    Don’t cross the Muslims.

    Why ?

    It would be bad.

I’m fuzzy on the whole good-bad thing. Whaddya mean ‘bad’ ?

Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every non-Islam-based molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

    Total Quranic reversal.

Right, that’s bad… OK… Important safety tip. Thanks Dhimmi.
