Howdy.

Once again, we’re going to start today’s news much earlier than normal, because I have a feeling things may heat up a tad during ‘normal business hours’ and I’d like my desk clear.  But then again, a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind.

All additional news items will be placed in the comments section.

=== === === === ===

The phone call was today.

Obama made it clear to Abbas that the US would veto such a resolution.

Abbas calls emergency meeting of the PLO, Fatah leaderships in Ramallah; Obama tells PA leader US will veto resolution so as not to jeopardize efforts to resume peace talks.

OK, that’s something concrete.  At least way more concrete than that totally un-sourced and unconfirmed anywhere blog post on a site called ‘Foreign Policy‘ that just about everybody lost their minds over.

This is the closest thing to an official notification towards the positive as I’ve seen regarding what will occur on the floor of The UN today.

Pray it’s signed sealed and deliv…………

Oh wow, I just got an e-mail.  It’s a transcript of the phone call from President Obama to Palestinian Authority Chairman Abbas.

I have a feeling this whole episode isn’t gong to end well.

Riiiiiing…… Riiiiiing…… Riii…Hello, this is Chairman Abbas.

Yo Mahmoud, this is Barack.

Ehud, why are you calling me ?  We have nothing to tal……

Boy President !   Do not talk to me this way !   Do you have any idea what can hap……

Mahmoud, the plan is to punt on this one for now.  It’s not the right moment yet and besides, I simply don’t have the time to deal with this or you.  I just wanted to touch base about what my last message said and they interrupted me during a golf lesson.  Talk to you later.

Now listen to me little one.  Your Blackberry will chime again in a few minutes and an another messa…… Hello ?!?…… Hel…… He just hung up on me…… WTF ?…… Ibrahim, get in here !

Yes sir.

Get me the man that fool deals with sometimes.

Who would that be, sir ?

What do you mean “Who would that be, sir ?”…… The Jew with all the money – Soreass or something like that…… Get him on the phone for me NOW ! before I hav…………

End of transcript.

Hey, if I didn’t snark it, I wouldn’t be me.

The Israeli Derby ain’t a horse race.

The Israeli Derby is an A2A missile.

It’s being sold to India for their new-line Tejas fighter aircraft – the new design upgraded from the initial 2001 configuration.

India’s new Tejas fighter will be armed with Israel’s Derby missile, according to Indian website LiveMint. The Derby is medium-range active-radar seeker air-to-air missile, that can hit targets at about 50 km. away. Missiles that can achieve this range are known by the acronym BVR – beyond visual range.

A contract for supplying the Derby will be signed by March with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Rafael will also fit the missiles on about 200 jets, according to P.S. Subramanya, director of India’s Aeronautical Development Agency, which is developing the light combat aircraft.  The Indian Air Force (known, like its Israeli counterpart, as the IAF) has ordered 40 Tejas fighters to be built. The Indian Air Force also wants 100 units of the Mk-II version of the fighter, and the navy wants 60 of the naval versions, Subramanya said.  India’s Sea Harrier jets carry Derby missiles. Rafael’s Python missile, closely related to the Derby, was also an option for the Tejas, Subramanya stated.

In the past decade, as the Muslim world grows more religious and bellicose, Israel has been forging ever-closer ties with natural allies that also face a Muslim threat. These include India and may soon include South Sudan.

Those last two sentences say it all.

Israel is starting to trust other nations more than America.

Turkey.

I.N.N. — Israel’s embassy in Istanbul and Consulate in Ankara closed.

Four Israeli embassies and consulates have been temporarily shut down due to a mounting terror threat, according to foreign press. Turkish newspaper Hurriet reported that the Israeli embassy in Ankara and the consulate in Istanbul are among the diplomatic missions that have shut their doors.

Ynet —Jews in Turkey fear attacks.

“Turkey is a dictatorship. They attack newspapers and there are raids against anyone who dares speak out against the government. Those who talk too much find themselves under investigation.”

A Muslim dictatorship ?…… No…… Not possible because of all the peace loving.

Snark aside, something’s telling me this embassy/consulate closing may be permanent.

Yeah, I know.  Probably not.  But it’s just an instinctive thing with me, because Turkey is steadily and purposely spiraling into full-on Islam governmental rule and they’ve been incessantly nipping at Israel’s heels since the flotilla insanity.

So why am I adding 1 + 1 and getting 11 ?

Anyway, It’s all good, because back in December, President Obama said the U.S. relationship with Turkey is ‘more important than ever‘.

But just for you-know-whats and giggles, what if Israel really is outta there ?

Turkey may be emboldened enough to try and ask/tell The US to am-scray too, because The Muslim Brotherhood has actually been the ones in charge for a while and they’re just ‘out of nowhere’ deciding to let that be known (a.k.a. El Caballo Troyano)  – and – Iran is Turkey’s new BFF – and – oh yeah…… What American nukes based in Turkey ?…… There’s no missiles and gravity weapons there…… That’s all some sort of ‘misunderstanding‘.  If there were weapons of that nature, they’ve been moved and most assuredly that was done by the evil Bush, because apartment houses have long ago been built on the former base sites and you must realize by now that peace lovers have no use for nukes at all.  So go away infidel Americans – leave our blessed-by-Allah Turkey – all of you – within 24 hours – or else – or else we’ll make him bow to us – again.

Wait…… I keep forgetting…… ‘It can’t happen here’.

Addendum:  Turkey warns U.S. ambassador over media comments.

ISTANBUL, Feb. 17, 2011 (Reuters) — Turkish officials have warned the new U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardone against interfering in its domestic affairs after he commented on Turkey detaining reporters despite pledging support for press freedom.

State Minister Egemen Bagis, Turkey’s chief negotiator in talks with the European Union, said the United States had itself detained reporters in the past for not revealing their sources.  “The ambassador is very new. His comments about Turkey are not linked to his knowledge and experience, but what he has heard,” Zaman newspaper quoted Bagis as saying.  “There are journalists in his own country who are in jail for not revealing news sources.”

But…… But…… I thought it was all good ?

?Jews wait, the army of Mohammed is coming back,? and ?We’ll redo the battle of Khaybar?.

Tunisia is home to approximately 1,600 Jews, down from 100,000 in the 1950s. The Jewish population is one of the largest in the Arab world. Most Tunisian Jews live on the southern island of Djerba.

    Israel National News reports:

The mass protests sweeping the Arab world continued Friday with demonstrations in Yemen, Libya and Bahrain. In the latter two countries thousands took to the streets to mourn protesters killed in clashes with police earlier in the week.

Twenty-four people were killed in clashes with security forces in Libya over the past three days.

In Yemen, demonstrators have used social media to call for a ?Day of Rage.? Thousands of pro-government protesters took to the streets Friday in preparation.

Bahraini leaders have accused the Lebanese terrorist group Hizbullah, a Shi’ite Muslim group, of encouraging riots in their country. Officials said that Hizbullah flags were found at the Manama rally, along with weapons and ammunition.

How long will it take for Hillary and the American left to blame those evil scary-looking guns with the sole responsibility for bringing peace-loving flags to the demonstration ?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacked Barack Obama on Friday, saying the American president “doesn’t even know how to spell his own name properly.”

During a visit to Bushehr ahead of a scheduled rally in support of his regime, the Iranian leader said, “Obama wants to rule the world, but he can’t even control his own emotions.”

The dude was banned from Egypt for over 30 years.

    He’s back.

For starters, Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs has some details on the peace-loving gent.

An Associated Press article via the Jerusalem Post.

Thousands call for execution of Iranian opposition leaders.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Thousands of government supporters called for the execution of opposition leaders at Friday prayers in the Iranian capital Tehran, following last week’s anti-government demonstrations.

Hardline cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said during the Friday prayers that the opposition leaders have lost their reputation among people and are practically “dead and executed,” while worshippers chanted for their actual executions.

“Their communications with people should be completely cut. They should not be able to receive and send message. Their phone lines and internet should be cut. They should be prisoners in their home,” he said.

I’m honestly surprised Mousavi and Karroubi are still alive and that the government hasn’t ordered the police and military to simply open fire on the real protesters.

    AP report via Fox News.

I noted the word ‘protesters’ in the header because of who they are. Emphasis mine.

AMMAN, Jordan ? Clashes erupted Friday in Jordan’s capital between government supporters and opponents at a protest calling for more freedoms and lower food prices, injuring eight.

The Amman protest drew about 2,000 people, including hard-line leftists, Muslim conservatives and students calling for reduced powers for the king and the chance to elect members of the Cabinet.

Note to AP and all other media outlets, including Fox News:

The term ‘Muslim conservatives’ is easily and willfully taken by many as a comparative to the definition of conservatives in America…… and the many of us know full well ‘Muslim conservatives’ is being used deliberately for the agenda.

You’re not going to be able to fool the masses much longer and when the time comes that they realize what’s been done, there will be nowhere to hide. Nowhere.

Make up you’re bloody minds already !

Al-Arabiya says Iran cancels request to transit Suez Canal.

Iran canceled a request to transit two warships through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea, Al-Arabiya quoted a Suez Canal official as saying on Friday.

On Thursday, Iran denied previous media reports that it had withdrawn an application to transit the waterway.

Oh come on now……. Iran said forget it as described above, so Egypt said ‘don’t be so hasty, c’mon in, the water’s fine’.

At 11:54am eastern time, The Associated Press released this article:

Egypt to let Iranian vessels through Suez Canal.

CAIRO (AP) – State media say Egypt has agreed to let two Iranian naval vessels transit the Suez Canal, a move that comes despite expressions of concern by Israeli officials.

State-run news agency MENA said Friday that authorities approved a request from Iranian diplomats who offered assurances that the two ships won’t have weapons or nuclear or chemical material.

Hint: One of the ships is a Warship. A. War. Ship. A frigate. An armed frigate. Unless I missed something along the way, that’s a……… Never mind.

It’s only The Muslim Brotherhood on all sides. Nothing to see here.

    Reuters report via Ynet News.

Egyptian authorities decided on Friday to open the Rafah border crossing into the Gaza Strip for humanitarian cases and to allow Palestinians stuck in Egypt to return to the enclave, state television reported.

The Rafah crossing links Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula to the Gaza Strip, which is run by Hamas. It was the first time the crossing had been opened since President Hosni Mubarak was toppled a week ago.

Supposedly, this is a one-way thing now. Just from Egypt to Gaza.

And hey, Reuters…… “Palestinians” ? There is no nation called Palestine. Oh right, I forgot…… The agenda…… How silly of me to think reportage would be honest.

The rest of the UN Security Council nations voted FOR the resolution.

The other nations on the UNSC are: China, France, Russia and The United Kingdom as permanent members, plus the current lineup of Boznia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Columbia, Gabon, Germany, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Portugal and South Africa.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) – The United States vetoed a U.N. resolution that would have condemned Israeli settlements as “illegal” and called for an immediate halt to all settlement building.

The 14 other Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution in Friday’s vote.

The Obama administration’s veto is certain to anger Arab countries and Palestinian supporters around the world. The U.S. opposes new settlements but says taking the issue to the U.N. will only complicate efforts to resume stalled negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians on a two-state solution.

The Palestinians say they will not resume peace talks until Israel halts settlement building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which it wants as its capital.

I’ll not comment other than to say ‘Thank you, President Obama’.

    • http://www.redstate.com/etcartman Kenny Solomon

Report from Agence France Presse via Yahoo News:

US ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said Washington had “regrettably” chosen to oppose the resolution, sponsored by some 130 countries, after seeking its compromise measure was rejected.

“This draft resolution risks hardening the positions of both sides,” Rice said. “It could encourage the parties to stay out of negotiations.” And she stressed Washington’s veto — the first by President Barack Obama’s administration at the United Nations — should not be taken as US support for settlement building.

We reject in the strongest terms the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity,” she told the Council. “While we agree with our fellow council members and indeed with the wider world about the folly and illegitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity, we think it unwise for this council to attempt to resolve the core issues that divide Israelis and Palestinians,” she said.

So I’m supposed to stay toned down, remain civil and be respectful or be banned, eh ?

A SENIOR member of the Saudi royal family has warned that the oil-rich country could be harmed by the uprisings sweeping the Arab world unless it speeded up reforms.

Prince Talal bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud told BBC Arabic that “anything could happen” if King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz did not proceed with a program of political transformation.

“King Abdullah … is the only person who can carry out these reforms,” the prince told the broadcaster. “On his departure, may that be in many years to come, latent trouble will surface and I have warned of this on many occasions. We need to resolve the problems in his lifetime,” the prince added.
