The GOP in the US Senate did a good job

last night when they stymied the union bailout bill cordially known as the Auto Bailout bill.  As many well thought out front page diarists have already pointed out, Francis Cianfrocca most notably, we will do this over again in January when the Democrats control everything.

With this defeat, perhaps the remaining GOP senators have learned their collective lesson from the demise of so many of their colleagues in the last election.  Only time will tell on that front.  Let us just hope the great white hunter can finally put up his rifle and retire from rhino hunting.

TARP Funds

jackbenimble Friday, December 12th at 1:06PM EST (link)

And now it seems that our President plans to undo their good efforts by funding the Big-3 Bailout out of the $700 billion TARP Funds.

It is hard for me to put my disdain for that man into words. It is hard for me to believe but I am actually looking forward to the day when Obama takes office just so we can be shut of that man and all of the damage he has done to our Party and our Copuntry.

Well, we know at least 10 GOP Senators didn't learn their lesson. n/t

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge.

Just in case you didn't know who the 10 are...

Dole got spanked in November and still didn't learn? (nt)

She got spanked precisely

because of votes like this. No, she didn’t learn. Why should she? She’s already been punished.

Question for those who know more than I about The Ten, how many of them were voted out this past election and when do the rest come up for reelection (2010?)

I may not agree with what you say but I’ll defend your right to say it to the very death.

I Believe Bond Is Up Again in 2010 (n/t)

Composition of "The Ten"

RetNAV Saturday, December 13th at 4:03AM EST (link)

Dole, J. Warner, Domenici - all 3 serving last days in Senate.

Bond - 2010
Lugar - 2012
Brownback - 2010, presumably not running again in 2010

The Maine Twins - Collins just reelected. Snowe - 2014; but I figure that’s how they would vote no matter when they are up for reelection.

Voinovich - 2010

Snarlin’ Arlen - 2010

I think it’s noteworthy, Burr (R-NC) up in 2010 voted Nay, while Dole (R-NC) on her way out voted Yes.

Blanch Lincoln (D-AR) up in 2010 voted Nay, but Pryor (D-AR) was just reelected and voted Yes.

And finally, Landrieu (D-LA) was just reelected and voted Yes, but Vitter (R-LA) is up in 2010 but voted No.

I never want to hear again of bipartisanship. The only time I want a Republican “reaching across the aisle” is to smack a liberal.

The above should have been reply to MMalcolm

What that tells me...

(your responses above that is)

is that they’re political animals who know how the game works.

Dole is potential fodder for the great white hunter so she voted yes because she sees no more consequences to her actions. The dems you mention voted yes because they’re dems but the ones who voted no and are up for reelection recognize they have to start pandering.

It looks like Dole, Warner, and Domenici have already become potential trophies for the great white hunter but I’m not as familiar with their past votes.

That leaves the rest wandering the open plains to be observed. Should another culling of the herd be needed I believe the masses may call on the hunter again.

I may not agree with what you say but I’ll defend your right to say it to the very death.
