Why Stop Now? Keep the Tea Parties Alive!

With the massive success of the Tea Parties (and the predictable backlash from the liberal media), why stop now?

At present, the “Tax Day Tea Party Numbers” thread (combined with my totals in the 247-250th comments this AM) has 222 sites with more than 410,000 participants.  On a Wednesday.  On a day when many people have to work.

Could this be even bigger, even harder to ignore, on a holiday?

Let us not rest on our heels.  This movement must continue, or it will be ignored as a “one time” event by the Main Stream Media and liberal bloggers out there.

I propose that organizers begin preparations for Tea Parties across the country for another important day:  Memorial Day Monday.  It is just six weeks away.  Many more people are off from work or have shorter hours and can attend.  Instead of hundreds of thousands or a million, the numbers could swell to millions.  And Memorial Day symbolizes our service men and women standing up against tyranny.

And why stop there?  In order to stop something, there must be more than just a protest.  Outrage must become a movement.  Independence Day would be another perfect day.  I could see “Declarations of Independence” from government largesse, over taxation, and more signed throughout the nation.

We want our taxes lowered.  We want control over our personal lives back.  We want a Federal Government that deals only with Federal issues.  We want personal responisiblity and the right to live up to our own expectations.  We cannot stop now.  One protest does not a movement make, nor a government listen.

As our revolutionary allies would say, “Vive la liberté.

Yes.  Long live freedom.

I googled “4th of July tea parties” and there already seems to be a movement afoot to get some started. Independence Day would be a perfect day to make an all day event out of it in my opinion. It’s on a Saturday, as Steph noted above, so most people will be off work anyway. If your city or community is having a tea party on that day by all means attend, but wear your tea party shirts and hats to your local parade as well (might want to leave the signs at home, you don’t want to block the view of the parade from anybody). Wear them to your family cookout, if you have one, and tell your family and friends what the tea parties are all about, if they don’t already know. Then take your tea party stuff to your city’s or community’s fireworks display that night. That way a lot more people can hear just what the tea party movement is all about when they ask you at these events “Hey, what’s up with the shirt/cap/sign?”

I agree with Steph Memorial Day might not be a good day as it is meant as a day of remembrance but I agree wholeheartedly with Fred that the movement needs to keep going. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a holiday, it can be any day but weekends and holidays will definitely get you more attendance.

Sounds like a plan to me!

…and apparently plan to, or have already, set aside a total of 10 such Tea Party gatherings, five this year, five next, culminating with an event approaching Decision 2010. That’s what they announced toward the end of the Tax Day Tea Party, anyway. Maybe that’s overdoing it. I’ll try to be there for every last one.

After all, the Tax-soaked Gestapo Government of Obama is still in power, still planning to take a full control of every aspect of American life.

I’d rather not have one on Memorial Day as it is a day for other purposes and we should honor it as it is meant to be honored.

However, I agree with the overall tone of diary. It’s no time to stop now.

I waffled a bit on the idea of doing the next one on Memorial Day. I wasn’t sure for the same reasons as you.

I just felt that ten weeks was too long to wait to make our next statement. Ten weeks is long enough for the libs to come up with a strong counter-strategy. I want to avoid that.

to get as much factual information out as possible. Politicians weren’t welcome at these protests with a few exceptions of those who have remained steadfast to their conservative principles.

People are learning that if they want the facts, they need to turn off the TV and hit the internet, so for this interlude, let’s make it worth their while. Fox reads this site. So do Limbaugh, Levin, and a host of others.

What good is all of this? Literally! So a whole lot of people get together and Fox news carries it live and every other media outlet ignores it, politicians ignore it, the people (you know, those people who never watch Foxnews and there are quite a few of them) have not one clue what this is or what it is all about and what they do know they get from the media who spins it into a raving lunatic block party. What good is all of this? I’m just askin’.

Because we are going to make this happen in spite of all the forces ranged against us. We are the responsible party, not the pols/government/media whatever.

It is quite simply the biggest one-day shot in the arm for the movement that I can imagine.

…the original Boston Tea Party? It didn’t reverse the Tea Act (that came later). It didn’t stop the British Parliament from intruding into American lives.

What it did was galvanize those who believed in freedom and individual liberty. It notified the British that, “We will not be ignored.” Their reaction eventually led to the First American War for Independence (often incorrectly referred to as the American Revolution or Revolutionary War–but that’s another diary).

The point is to put Washington on notice: We’re fed up, and we’re not going to put up with any more irresponsibility inside the Beltway. Not listening is a huge risk, both from them and the MSM.

and redneck_hippie. Of course the MSM is going to ignore a one day event, and some politicians will likely ignore a one day event too. That brings the point of Fred’s diary and above comment home even more. That’s why we need more of these. Like Fred said:

“The point is to put Washington on notice: We

Fox beat the rest of the news networks almost 3 to 1 in viewers…our msg is getting out. So that would be one good thing…also it provides an opportunity for people to meet more like minded people in their vicinity which is also a good thing.

I like that word. Have you ever noticed how libs tend to protest and obstruct until they get a law in place and then you never hear a peep out of them, except for the ringleaders who would otherwise be out of job?

They flit from cause to cause and don’t even think about it logically… it’s just the next trendy movement.

Look how hard they worked to get TheOne elected and when all the big names tried to whip up some opposition to the tea parties, they couldn’t whip up much of anything except a few mostly half-hearted attempts. The young are already bored with their Messiah.

“Flit from cause to cause…” I love that phrase! It describes what they do to a “T”!

If I may add to my above comment, even if a tea party isn’t put together in your community for the 4th then go ahead and wear those t-shirts and caps to your local parade, fireworks show, cookout or whatever event your area does put on. That way even more people can be reached. Oh, and wear those shirts and caps before and after the 4th, too. Take your signs and banners to events that has your local politicians speaking, or at least a shirt or cap. No, don’t try to rush the stage or shout him or her down, we conservatives are supposed to have class! Leave that juvenile behavior to Code Pink.
