No tax break to move jobs overseas
By: Frederick (Diary) | October 3rd at 11:06 PM |
I’m tired of hearing that companies get a “tax break” for moving jobs overseas. The President repeated this a couple of times during his dabate with Mitt Romney. I’ll buy dinner up to $500 for the first person to show me the section in the tax code that does this. Don’t bother, it doesn’t exist. Here’s what they’re really talking about (very simplified): It’s 1992. | Read More »
Warren Buffett’s sinister view on taxes
By: Frederick (Diary) | August 30th at 07:14 PM |
I can rephrase Dr. Goldstein’s anecdote in just a few words: “Your money or your life.” I’ve never met Matthew Goldstein, but judging by his bio I don’t think it’s something I’d like to do. It reads like a stereotype of the elitist, leftist intelligentsia. A B.A. in English and History, an M.A. in World and Comparative Literature (whatever that means) and a Ph.D. in | Read More »
Intemperate Thoughts V
By: Frederick (Diary) | July 1st at 07:45 PM |
My very first “Intemperate Thoughts” post came just after an Independence Day holiday, so it seems appropriate to have another during this holiday. For those unfamiliar, this is a list of random, often cynical and (hopefully) humorous thoughts that I’ve been collecting for the past few months. They’re insensitive and meant to irk you. And if you’re really offended by them, then I’m really, really | Read More »
Eliminate the corporate income tax
By: Frederick (Diary) | January 28th at 05:52 PM |
The President made a big deal about and frequently referred to “Invest[ing]” during his State of the Union speech (or so I heard, since I didn’t watch it). Lots of “investing” in more government programs and top-down, centralized economic planning. Lots of “investing” in social safety nets. Lots of “investing” in more pet projects for politicians. Actually, the President was talking about “spending”, but his | Read More »
The Tax Trap
By: Frederick (Diary) | December 10th at 08:47 PM |
I would like to claim credit for this idea, as I espoused it among friends long before I heard it on the radio. In reality, before writing it I heard it on my daily ride home in the brief segment of the Sean Hannity Show that I listen to before getting annoyed with Sean it and changing to my music station. I have expanded upon what the | Read More »
Yes, Democrats, please make this election about jobs
By: Frederick (Diary) | July 21st at 08:43 PM |
Democrats are planning to push “Job Creation” this election season. Yeah, we’ve heard that one before. Right before the massive, do-nothing stimulus package was passed. The same stimulus package that now has to be paid for–with job-killing tax hikes. Yet Democrats are poised to make this election about jobs: A retooled jobs initiative, which Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) on Tuesday dubbed the “Make | Read More »
They lied to you. They keep lying. They’ll continue to lie.
By: Frederick (Diary) | July 2nd at 12:45 PM |
The Democrats told us that they wouldn’t grow spending and increase deficits the way the Republicans under Bush did. They told us all their wild spending schemes would be deficit neutral. They told us they would not raise taxes on incomes under $250,000. They lied. First they broke their promise not to tax incomes under $250,000. “That’s for families. We’ll raise taxes on individuals earning | Read More »
When average isn’t average
By: Frederick (Diary) | May 11th at 12:21 PM |
USA Today is reporting that the average taxpayer paid just 9% of their income in taxes in 2009, the lowest level since 1950. Federal, state and local taxes — including income, property, sales and other taxes — consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of | Read More »
New venture investment signals slow growth
By: Frederick (Diary) | April 12th at 06:29 PM |
Venture Capital firms raised less money in the first quarter of 2010 than in any period since 1993, reports the Kansas City Business Journal. The slow growth in the economy combined with a less favorable overall market contributed to reducing investment in new firms, even as the Dow Jones Industrial Average breached the 11,000-mark today. The National Venture Capital Association and Thomson Reuters released a | Read More »

Reverse Course to Right Our Economy
By: Frederick (Diary) | January 31st at 11:59 AM |
Can we just admit that the Stimulus was an $800 billion mistake that did absolutely nothing to help the economy or stimulate jobs? Can we admit that Keynesian economics are, at best, a scalpel being wielded as though a they were a machete? Can we admit that no centralized government planning will ever lead to greater economic prosperity? Because if you really can’t admit that, you really | Read More »
