Three days ago RedState broke the story about a radical left group planting racist remarks on TeamSarah.org, remarks which were then reported, without fact checking, by The Huffington Post as “proof” that the supporters of Gov. Palin are racists.

Let’s start with the basics.
What does it mean to transform?

According to Merriam-Webster online, transform means:

1 a: to change in composition or structure b: to change the outward form or appearance of c: to change in character or condition :

There is a plan, a master plan, you can follow but that plan has to conform to some semblance of proven LAWS and principles. **

Where can you find those laws and principles, written in plain English, in an easy to read format that is not hard on the eyes? here it is, what you have been looking for, Ralph Benko’s book, The Websters’ Dictionary. (This is not an error, Mr. Benko has informed me that his hope, and now mine as well, that he may be the first of many “Websters”, people who know and teach ways to use the web as a people connecting tool that have a cultural impact that is real and felt and positive)

Ralph Benko is a strange fellow, and I mean that in warm sincerity, who comes across in person as a cross between Jimmy Dean and a Nerd God, a really cool guy who can also do your homework for you. If understanding the web, how it works, and how to connect with people using the web’s tools and technologies, is your assignment then consider this very tough homework assignment to be taken care of by “The Webster”.

I have rarely met as accomplished a man who was both humble and absolutely self assured, at much at home I suppose in the rarified air of the best places in Washington DC with all the power brokers as with common folks out in fly over country, and his book is consistent with this character trait: it is clearly written by one who knows but it has been made accessible to almost anyone who has a few hours of time (you can read it on about 2 to 4 hours, which would mean about half a month if you took 15 minutes a day and read slowly).

If I have been described as a “networker”, indeed I have even been described as a somewhat influential networker using internet resources to connect people and ideas for action, reading this book has opened my mind up to new possibilities.

Here are some things I felt were most revelatory about the book:

*For starters, the book makes no apologizes about what is needed, and what is not. *

If, for instance, you don’t have the necessary people and funds, don’t try and be the next RedState or MoveOn but BEGIN ANYWHERE to get where you want to go. If all you have is a $7 server (quoting from Patrick Ruffini) and the ability to write, START THERE.

Ultimately, you will wish to deploy a team of 2-5 savvy web networkers (and a bit of technology) to create and sustain a web-based community. That is what it takes to support 50,000 to 1 million members. That community will provide resources to pay for the team. But if you don’t have the money to hire a team on Day One, just BEGIN ANYWHERE (the Webster’s 10th Law!) with what you have now.

Second, and this is important kids, stop trying to tell your community what to do, start finding out what THEY want to do and giving the space, the tools, and the resources to DO IT.

The question arises, “if I just listen to my community, how can I pursue my own agenda or vision?” My answer is simple: choose people who FIT your vision and they will generally not only follow it but improve upon it greatly.

Third, don’t try and use ALL the latest tools and gadgets* and don’t try to be everything to everyone. It is better to use tools that work, and work well, and that you know how to use and it is better to focus more narrowly on a key area, such as vote fraud or foreign events, then to try and cover every issue or cause when you have limited resources, funds, and people.

Sometimes your big plans have to be reduced to bare necessities, but this is not by any means the end of your story, it is only the beginning: *BEGIN ANYWHERE! *

Fourth, read this book, not once, but over and over until you have digested it from your head to your heart. *

Why? Because the common sense, sometimes brutally honest, truths and principles contained therein will stop the shaking ground beneath your feet, calm the waves, and clear the skies giving you a high pinnacle to stand firmly on above everything else, a pinnacle from which to see exactly the types of things you need to do, the right moves, to get to where you want to be.

For me, it helped immensely that I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the people on the “right” whom Benko describes in the book and lifts up as examples. These people include Eric Odom, Erick Erickson, and Eric Telford (I call them the three Erics, they should start a club), Patrick Ruffini, and a score of others. The accuracy of his assessment is beyond a doubt truthful and USEFUL to those of us who wish to follow in their foot steps!

*I am impressed with the way the book is set up, *with the way it makes seemingly complicated matters interesting and easily understandable, and especially with Benko’s tendency to know exactly what is IMPORTANT and what is not. The book will not bore you and you will literally be a better, more effective person for having invested some time in reading it.

If you read this book, whether you get the FREE version at www.thewebstersdictionary.com or get the printed version (so you can keep it with you and spend some time with it) you will have what the Germans call Fingerspitzegefuhl, finger tip feeling, for that which is necessary to survive and thrive on the web.

NOTE: By having a print copy on hand you can more easily reference it, mark it with your own notes, and have it to show others in your company or your organization as you attempt, valiantly, to make them see how much the web can be our friend if we use it properly and how it can be our deadly foe if we choose to pretend that it does not matter.

I believe, if I may go on a bit here, that Ralph has the advantage of being a more experienced man who instinctively knows that “the web” is not mysterious at all, it is not “technological” so much as it is a people-connecting medium. Ralph is not in love with technology for the sake of technology, he has not been SEDUCED by “gadgets”, like some kid bragging about how HE has the latest version of this or that, but he is savvy as to what the latest, most useful, most affordable technology is and continues to do our homework for us.

Pakistan promises to aid India

Stating that India should not jump to conclusions Hussain Hariqqa, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, promised Pakistan’s support in the fight against terror.

This more conciliatory tone is encouraging. If rogue elements within the ISI it is probable that the Pakistani government will take more serious measures to root them out.

Al Quedas’ gambit was to provoke Conflict and undermine Pakistan’s stability- assuming that this was Al Queda (we are still give this s confidence level Of 4 out of 5). If this is true, the gambit is probably not over.

Assuming that the Pakistani government continues to be sympathetic the ball is in the Indian government’s court. So far, the Indian government is painting a picture of foreign involvement and could conceivably take this opportunity to settle unresolved issues with Pakistan. This seems illogical but it IS possible.

We will continue to cover this with more analysis.

MORE ENCOURAGING NEWS- Indian Parliamentarian, Congress Spokesman Rajiv Shukla Thursday said that none of the Central and Maharashtria governments has so far said anything about the linkage of Pakistan with Mumbai terrorist attacks. In a telephonic interview with Geo News, the Indian Parliamentarian said that such impression is being created by the Indian media which should be avoided.

He said that “both India and Pakistan are victims of terrorism and instead of blaming each other they should cooperate in defeating the common enemy”.

This now laces Pakistan in a tough position, as already noted, in that they will have to face a terrorist insurgency in the Kashmir border area as well as in the tribal lands near Afghanistan.

The crisis in Mumbai is not over yet, however, and now there is talk about the 9 hour delay before Indian forces entered the Taj hotel along with a possible link to the Tamil Tigers, in Sri Lanka, who do have a known history of mounting low grade naval operations. It is possible that LTTE, the Tamil Tigers organizations, assisted the terrorists.

What seems clear is that the terrorists want everyone to THINK Pakistan or the ISI were involved. The Indian Prime Minister is now talking in terms of tougher anti-terrorism laws and I can see a picture where the Indians blame the Tamils for supporting rogue elements if the Pakistanis give them cover by in some way admitting that native terrorists were involved and vowing to go after them with full force. The Pakistanis are talking in terms of being victims themselves of the same terrorism.

We are not ready yet to cancel our war warning, but we are much more optimistic about the end results of this action. The terrorists would like to take more action, but they may not be able to.

Earlier reports of some sort of gunfire and explosions in Karachi, Pakistan could just as likely have been a government operation against possible terrorist groups and so far there is a new blackout about the incident with no more news coming from that city.

Barring unforeseen events, which we must allow for, it appears that the Indian government is keeping its cool, the Pakistani government is being more conciliatory, and the gambit may have failed in its primary aims. Its secondary aims, of causing financial disruptions to India may meet with limited success but so far Asian and Indian stocks have not been adversely affected, perhaps tourism in Mumbai will be affected, but that has yet to be seen.

We issue a WAR WARNING for India and Pakistan with a LOW probability based on a potential visceral reaction by the Indian government, in response to popular outrage, which may not be amendable to logic or diplomacy.

The American Freedomist will be reviewing the POTENTIAL for an armed conflict between India and Pakistan over the Mumbai (Bombay) attacks.

“They are from across the border and perhaps from Faridkot, Pakistan. They tried to pretend that they were from Hyderabad,” Major General R.K. Hooda, leading the military operation to flush out the extremists, told reporters.

I am going to be monitoring diplomatic channels and checking with military intel sources as well as news sources in the region to asses the possibility for a war between India and Pakistan.

We issue a LOW War Warning as a precaution in view of the possible visceral reaction to this attack, not do to any specific intelligence on troop movements or activities. REPORT any news about this incident to bill@freedomist.com or use the comment feature.

We consider this to be a high threat to peace in the region and are looking for signs of troop movements, rhetoric from the Indian authorities, and possible rhetoric from Pakistan.

Possible de-escalating factors may include a statement of intent from Pakistan to renew efforts to combat terrorism in the troubled Kashmir area and to offer cooperation with Indian authorities, which while beneficial to Indian-Pakistani relations would further escalate tensions between the government and the population of Pakistan which tends to lean towards the terrorists in its sympathies overall.

This development complicates US activities in the region and places US and NATO forces in a nation that is land-locked and that is surrounded by more or less anti-US powers leaving only Pakistan as the AIR BRIDGE to Afghanistan. The purpose of the terrorists is to foment unrest in Pakistan, even at risk of war with India, and to thereby jeopardize the Air Bridge making continued deployment of US and NATO forces untenable.

This is not to say the strategy will work, but this is indeed the strategy.

We estimate, with 4 out 5 confidence, that Al Quada was behind this attack and that further attacks in the US or Indonesia are envisioned by the enemy.

The initial response to the crisis by the President Elect, who has gained the political leadership even before being sworn in, has been tepid and halting, a fact not lost on the enemy.

In a related story, warning of an Al Queda attack on New York Subways or Train stations are, in our estimation, a diversion from the real target but even with this in mind, US law enforcement and the military appear to continue to enjoy the upper hand in terms of tracking and stopping terrorist plots. Eventually, of course, this will fail and no doubt Al Quada wants to cause a failure.

An apparent COMITY of action between Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and Al Queda is more likely a result of a shared belief that the new president will be uncertain in his responses and that now, during the transition, is the time to seek out ways to undermine the US.

US officials are no doubt shuttling between Islamabad and New Delhi in an effort to prevent a serious rupture between Pakistan and India, however viseral passions often trump the most logical and well intended diplomacy.

The Freedom Sphere includes the virtual, social, and information networks, communities, blogs, websites, organizations, and groups that are run by and for freedom focused individuals, groups, organizations, clubs, businesses, and associations of any kind. To be Freedom Focused means that you embrace The Four Core Ideals of Freedomism: Unity in diversity (Liberty, Civil Rights), Popular sovereignty (Independence, Self-Reliance, Limited Government, Local Autonomy), Democratic equality (Opportunity, Free Enterprise, Equal Access), and the Rule of Law (Justice, Constitutional Supremacy, Security of our Rights, Persons, and Property.

I am going to describe the FreedomSphere overall, however within RedState my focus is going to be on Conservatives In Exile, or right of center Virtual Freedom Fighters who are PRO LIFE and who support virtue and morality based on the beliefs of our Founding Fathers (and mothers). We call the FreedomSphere on the RIGHT “The 57th State”.

About the 57th State:* President Obama said he had not been to all 57 States, we found the 57th State in Imagination Land and in the 57th State Caesarists who promote Big Government or a Planned Economy and who attack our culture of LIFE and of VIRTUE by controlling Washington and Wall Street are all in museums. You cannot JOIN The 57th State, which celebrates right of center communities of virtual freedom fighters; we merely seek to recognize, promote, and support those who by their words AND deeds demonstrate that they are in fact “citizens” of the 57th State.

The FreedomSphere overall is a place for Conservatives In Exile, Kennedy Democrats, Community Sovereigntists, Constitutionalists, Libertarians, conservative Greens, Independents, and others who believe that individuals, private associations, and local communities should make over 80% of all decisions, own and control over 80% of all resources, and hold over 80% of all political, social, economic, and civil authority.

The 57th State is what we lovingly call The Right of Center FreedomSphere, of which we believe RedState is THE premiere community developing and supporting entity. This is the reason why the “Headquarters” for the 57th State will be here, within RedState.

The FreedomSphere is not going to look like “MoveOn” or any “One Big System” (OBS) approach, it is going to be dynamic, decentralized, results oriented, based on the free market, and the support of volunteers, sponsors, advertisers, and subscribers/members who choose to use resources they believe are the best, most efficient, and most cost effective in terms of time, resources, and money.

The 57th State does not need a central BOSS telling everyone what to do or say, it only needs DRUMMERS and TRUMPETEERS who will strive to tell the People about this awesome community and encourage them to get involved by joining or forming their own activity, groups, blog, and etc.

We will be setting up a 57th State Hall of Fame where we highlight the best right of center Freedom Focused Organizations and Businesses and reward them with free sponsorships on one or more of our own sites, custom content, or other services or resources available through our network.

The 57th State is not about US, it is about YOU and about all the other awesome virtual freedom fighters and freedom community builders, networkers, and developers who are equipping people all over the US and the world in the battle for FREEDOM FOR ALL, a battle against Caesar’s One Big System in all its forms!

It says in Proverbs, “let another man praise you and not yourself”, or something like that.

There are many conservative groups and causes out there, some of which you may not even be familiar with. Some of them may be nothing more than a guy or gal in their living room with a $7 server, as Ralph Benko quoted from Patrick Ruffini (READ Ralph’s book for FREE, http://www.thewebstersdictionary.com/).

I have been privileged over the past 3 months to have met many of the top conservative internet activists by phone or in person and have been privy to some interesting meetings where individuals shared their knowledge of best practices as well as their stories and I have learned quite a bit about who these people and what they are about.

The bottom line is that the conservative community is waking up and shaping up, our leaders and friends, and potential new leaders and friends, are coming to realize that while we need to match what “the left” has done in terms of impact and making the most of the internet, our approach is not going to be the same. For instance, we are not going to rely on or ask for millions of dollars from a few rich donors who may then have the power to call the shots and we are not keen on a top-down approach in which only a FEW at the top get all the power and recognition.

The conservative community is self-organizing, even if it may not be apparent to all of us, and we seem to be in a “Valley Forge” moment. Our Von Steuben (he trained George Washington;s troops in Valley Forge) is not one person: we are being trained by necessity and by folks like Erick Erickson, Ralph Benko, Erik Telford, Eric Odom, Chad Everson, Paul Collier, Emily Zanotti, Scott Graves, Neil Stevens, Stephanie Davis, Patrick Ruffini, Robert Bluey, and the list goes on.

What you may want to know, as a conservative, is WHAT IS OUT THERE…..

What is out there?

Most of us don’t just focus on one thing, many of us have our OWN thing, be that a blog, a newspaper, a BlogTalkRadio show, or group or project of some kind. In addition to our own thing, we often get involved in other blogs, groups, and projects.

The purpose of my “Diary” on Red State is going to be to promote YOU, your blogs, projects and groups, by telling my readers, not only here but on my other blogs and groups, about who you are, what you are doing, how and why you are doing it, and how and where others can get involved.

What am I up to, you might ask?

My specialty is not technical, it is PEOPLE; making connections, building networks, and getting things DONE. I don’t care who does it or who gets credit for it, I care that the job gets done.

What JOB is that?

The real JOB we need to do is:

1. Create news sites and investigative articles that uncover connections, causes, and potential effects and THEN get this vital news past the media filter through mutual promotion and other methods

2. Create information networks that offer articles and news to other news blogs, that can coordinate information and Intel Gathering, and that can support online publications

3. Create effective networks of people who connect online, by phone, and in person not only for political action and cooperation with with other groups, but to share ideas and best practices and for fun, interesting, and entertaining social interaction

4. SHADOW the politicians, the media, corporations, and organizations and HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE to the standards of freedom, justice, the Constitution, and the public interest

5. Encourage and SUPPORT local people in their efforts to apply our conservative values (limited government, individual sovereignty, a free market, a strong national defense) to LOCAL issues and encourage local people to gain control over their local political party at the precinct level

6. Encourage and support multimedia newspapers that are locally-focused in small communities or smaller neighborhoods within major cities that act as a WacthDog, Advocate, and Resource and thereby EARN permission by local readers to PERSUADE them (I call this “Street Level Information WAR.”

7. Continue to encourage meetings, by phone conference and in person, amongst conservatives who are engaged in the above activities and seek ways to support and help one another while encourage NEW people with new ideas and different approaches to step up, provide mentoring and assistance by the more established activists to the new people

My own “dream” is to create a Christian Fraternal Society that takes the idea of a “church” as a worship center and transforms it into a Church as a Community Center with a strong emphasis on evangelism, holiness, mutual support, assurance, and accountability, biblical literacy, participatory worship, being the salt of the earth, and occupying whatever SPACE we have an opportunity to occupy (including political, social, cultural, and economic space).

*As for groups I am not a leader within but I support, these include *Sampshere, DONTGO, and Americans For Prosperity. I believe these three groups are “others focused” in that they SUPPORT and improve LOTS of other writers, bloggers, and groups and they have a simple but effective PLAN that WILL WORK!

My present focus is on a project I am presently seeking collaboration on, which is a project I am doing with my twin brother, Paul Collier: “The American Freedomist Movement.”

The AFM has three main elements-

The American Freedomist Network- this includes American Freedomist Radio and the purpose is to connect writers, media teams, promotions teams, and the like to develop a support network that will mentor and aid local multimedia newspapers that can then connect to the AFN as well as other information networks like The Grizzly Groundswell or DONTGO, sharing information and using their information.

The American Freedomist- this multimedia national daily newspaper is evolving out of our “blog”, The Freedomist BLOGand will include “sections” such as News Scope for international intelligence, Midnight In America for US Political Intelligence, The Upadarian (you-pah-dare-ee-an) Voice for Christian news, bible studies, and article on creating Christian community, the 57th State for commentary on US politics, and STATE Digests for each state as we add State Publishers.

The Freedom Congress- this is real simple: we are going to SHADOW elected officials at the Federal Level and organize people around “State Town Meetings” run by a “Shadow Governor” to act as Shadow Delegates (Senators and House members)and to vote on Instructions, Remonstrances, and Queries which the “Freedomist Party USA” (a Non-Party Party) will hand deliver to Washington DC. Our initial GOAL is to recruit at least 100 TOWN MEETING members per Congressional District plus at least 500 in “vulnerable” districts where a few votes can change an election outcome. *NOTE: The American Freedomist Movement is not a conservative only movement, it is focused more narrowly on structural issues aimed at transferring power from “Washington and Wall Street” to individuals, private associations, and human scale communities so that 80% of everything that happens locally is decided by local people for local people through direct participation.

I am also a founding member of Field of Dreams Communities, a network of over 1,000 online clubs, groups, and etc. on Yahoo, MSN, Google, and now, as we move these groups, NING. This network has been around since 1999 and was founded by John Graham, a former General Manager for Minor League Baseball Teams (the field in Bull Durham is the field of his first team).

Of all of my projects, the Freedom Congress is both the most important and the one that I would ultimately like to see be “owned” by a group of collaborators as well as its members.
