Ex-Dem Chair Apologizes for Hurricane Remark

August 31, 2008 5:55 PM

ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: Former DNC Chairman Don Fowler apologized on Sunday for joking in a private conversation that the timing of Hurricane Gustav demonstrates that God is on the side of the Democrats.

“If this offended anybody, I personally apologize,” Fowler told ABC News. “It was a mistake, and it was a satirical statement made in jest. And one that I clearly don’t believe.”

Fowler was secretly recorded by the person sitting behind him while flying from Denver, Colo., to Charlotte, N.C., following the Democratic National Convention. His conversation with Rep. John Spratt, D-S.C., was anonymously posted to YouTube and highlighted by RedState.com, a conservative blog.

Gustav: Bush was Chicken Little before Chicken Little was cool

Jindal-Katrina unclog Nagin-Blanco ears

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

But, even had then Democratic Governor Kathleen Blanco and Ray “Chocolate City-School Bus Nagin” done what President George W. Bush urged with respect to evacuations pre-Katrina, the disaster would still have occurred. Why?

Because the disaster was caused by the Hurricane, not what governments did or did not do.

What made Katrina the mega-disaster it was, was the fact that for the first time 300 years the levees broke. Even if President Bush, Blanco, Nagin or even Barack “The One” had gone all “Chicken Little” before Katrina and found insurable bus drivers, most of those that stayed in NOLA would still have stayed.

President Bush begged Blanco to call out the National Guard and begged Nagin to demand evacuation days earlier than occurred before Katrina. His words fell on deaf Blanco-Nagin ears and the MSM always conveniently forgets this fact.

Thirty-Five Years

"Experience", a conceit inside the beltway

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

Everyone that lives 35 years has 35 years of experience. The U.S. Constitution requires same for anyone that would serve as President of the United States. Therefore, we always choose among adults with at least that much life experience.

I have never used experience as an argument for or against a Democrat and Republican. What matters most is what they believe, i.e. their world view and what policies they advocate. I would choose a so-called inexperienced conservative that is right on the issues over an “experienced” liberal any day.

And what passes for “experience” anyway? Serving on a committee in Washington? Please don’t insult my intelligence.

Leftist character content loses every time

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

Fellow baseball lover, George Will made a great point about the real proof that white racism had ceased to be a major factor in American life. It was not so much when Frank Robinson was hired as the first African-American manager in Major League Baseball. Rather, it was when he was fired on the same terms as white managers were fired all the time.

The same test obtains with respect to Barack Obama.

Phooey, pig go! Bill Clinton should form Bull Hawg Party [updated]

Or will Bill eat slop at Barack's feet instead?

[This column is a substantially revised version of Shouldn’t Bill cry Sooey! for a Bull Hawg Party?]

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

Before Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, he famously shouted the Arkansas Razorback cheer on Late Night TV: Sooey! Go Pig!

The pig needs to eat. But, the only Democrat to be re-elected President since FDR (who is scheduled to speak at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night) has been eaten up and spit out by the Party he saved from political oblivion after the Reagan and Gingrich revolution. So, when he speaks, he will be addressing, possibly the largest gathering of ungrateful beneficiaries in modern American political history and in world history since Winston Churchill last addressed the British Parliament.

Why should Bill Clinton assist the embodiment of the far left that removed all traces of his mostly successful (by many measures and with a Gingrich assist) eight years in the Oval Office? The people that Gore embraced as he lost refusing to let Bill campaign for him in 2000 in other than Black churches. The people that let Ted Kennedy speak and anoint the upstart after seeing Bill’s success in the 90’s partly due to the muzzle Bill out on the swimmers mouth.

Teddy Roosevelt bolted and went Bull Moose for less than this Razorback has endured.

Meanwhile: Bush (USA) and Tbilisi, Iraq, other places Russia and Iran aren’t

God Bless America

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

The media focuses on horse races between men while the Earth turns. Some major events have occurred on the third stone from the Sun and significant dawgs haven’t barked within the din of mostly insignificant barking by McCain, Obama and Biden.

Russian forces occupy a small portion of former USSR slave state, Georgia. For the first days and weeks after Russia’s invasion, the media was filled with voices of doom that the US was powerless to prevent Russia from taking Georgia, Ukraine and even Poland. (Reminds me of a middle school bully bragging about smacking a wheelchair bound classmate in the boy’s room.) They focused on Putin’s smile in China, flight to “the front” as Bush’s beach volleyball party continued and years’ old soul peering stories.

Weeks later, Georgia exists. American military planes occupy Tbilisi with guns and butter ala Berlin airlift, but it is the presence of their bodies and the flag on their uniforms that keeps the bear (see cub circa 2008) at bay.

Rush to Reaganism for Grand New Party Comeback

Liberty never goes out of style

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

Originally published in Race42008.com

Gamecock sees no inherent contradiction between Rush/Reagan conservatism and most of the themes and policy proposals presented in David Frum’s Comeback nor Ross Douthat and Reihan Salam’s Grand New Party, despite the hype of some columnists and the author’s themselves.

Both books, but especially Frum’s, claim to be departures from Reaganism, which they see as fashioned solely for the problems of 1970’s and ‘80’s. I disagree, and think that their bold characterizations of their proposals are mostly self aggrandizing contrarianism.

That said, except for Frum’s internal contradictions within the book concerning President Bush and the above, I found most of their economic proposals to be welcome additions to the debate fiscal conservatives should have been having over the past decade.

Obama & Biden, Attorneys-at-Law yet never tried a case [updated]

But see fit to continue the high tech lynching of Justice Thomas for 17 years

Oh yeah Barack, and what community did you organize and are at least two witnesses still alive.

Questions the MSM professional journalists never ask: Joe, Barack, can either of you name ONE case you tried to a jury? I am not asking for the style of a case you won, mind you. Just name a case you actually took to court and the telephone numbers of your clients.

We know that Joe has “foreign policy” experience, defined in the US senate as talking about small countries and coming close to correctly pronouncing the minister of commerce’s name.

But have either of you won a jury trial?

Infanticide, the Good Samaritan, Obama and MSM strategy

Conservatives must not let "not infanticide" be the standard

Infanticide is defined as “the killing of an infant.” The law punishes same.

A Good Samaritan sees a human in distress and helps them. Not rising to the moral heights of same is not punished. Those that do rise to such heights are glorified.

Hence, America is glorified. We help the least of these when we don’t have to. But you can’t see it from Chicago’s South Side.

So let’s get down in the weeds of Presidential politics, and Obama’s opposition to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, but first:

Do not recommend this blog

But remember Cockstradamus

In Late 2006 I predicted the GOP nominee would win the presidency again in 2008 because I saw that the Dem Party had rejected Clinton DLC moderation. This was before I knew Obama’s middle name and assumed Hillary would probably be the nominee. Had no clue who the GOP nominee would be.

Then, in 2007 I renewed my prediction that Obama would lose due to his overt leftism.

America has never elected a known liberal and won’t in 2008.

Now, as so many are obsessed with predicting Obama’s VP first (I’m reminded of competitions for the ugliest chick at the prom), I just want to reiterate that I have never been wrong in a presidential election prediction since 1980.

Kobe’s patriotism crushes NBC’s political correctness [updated]

Bryant unabashed love for America slam dunks victimhood template

Originally published at the new Gamecock’s DeVine Law

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

I was horrified at NBC’s refusal, during Opening ceremonies especially and anytime since, to identify communism as the evil behind Mao’s Cultural Revolution, Tienanmen Square crackdown, Chinese support for Islamic extremists in Sudan, repression of pacifist monks and the Dali Lama in Tibet and the forced smiles and cogs in the machine in Bejing. Talk about a nation that has a lot to apologize for, see China. Yet, NBC, eager to point to America’s flaws of 45-232 years ago, can’t bring itself to mourn the 60+ million victims of Mao nor the 40+ million victims of Russia from 1917-1991 or last week’s in Georgia.

So, it was with great joy that a black basketball player, from the America Barack Obama finds evil on the streets of second only to the streets of Darfur and whose nation-state patriotism he opposes in favor of citizen of the worldness, provided the antidote for the value-less NBC embarrassment of all nationalism save that for the nation that made NBC possible.

Watt, Dems’ war against the poor: Raises gas/food prices, razes homeowner walls

Dole, Burr and GOP should be Nehemiah for lower income families

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

In 445 B.C. the Persian King Artaxerxes sent Nehemiah, an Israelite who was a trusted official, to help rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

Mel Watt (D-NC) joined most of his fellow Democrats (and not too few Republicans) last month is passing a law arbitrarily bailing out over 300,000 sub-prime loans guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while, inexplicably ending a successful conservative program allowing charitable organizations to provide down payment assistance to lower income first time homebuyers for regular FHA loans.

FHA loans are not sub prime loans to credit risky borrowers like a high percentage of the bailed out loans. Moreover, 501c3 organizations like Nehemiah provide an extra level of scrutiny for loans they provide DPA assistance for and coach and assist the first time home borrowers from loan application thru sale and throughout the life of the loan.

Warren did not need Land’s saddle on his back [re-updated]

Land, Warren best public faces for Evangelicals

Originally published in and introducing Gamecock’s DeVine Law

[2nd update]

Rick Warren pulled off a masterfully revealing “cone of silence” debate with identical, well-crafted questions to Obama and McCain tonight. All fears that Warren was in the tank for Obama were unfounded. His low key approach allowed Obama to hang himself with his halting non-answers vs. McCain’s honest, direct unflinching answers. Obama never identified that a baby in the womb ever has any rights. Most voters don’t want a confrontation like attack peppering Obama about Rev. Wright. I do, but what I learned tonight is something I learned long a ago in courtrooms against witnesses but never applied to politics: Ask a pointed question in a low key voice and count on the jury to get it.

Thank you Rick warren for your service to America, gamecock’s trust and hopes, and our Lord!

Your format and approach revealed a bright boy vs. a Man.

[end 2nd update]

The greatest and most blessed Land east (and west) of the Garden of Eden has needed continual healings of varying degrees since its founding. We became the last best hope of man on Earth, the arsenal of Democracy and God-given Liberty’s Shining City on a Hill because we sought and received healings of our Land via a Judeo-Christian prescription:

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Dr. Richard Land, President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), prescribed that Scriptural anecdote for what ails America recently as a guest speaker at the First Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Dr. Land is a frequent quest on Meet the Press and other prominent television programs and probably the best “public Evangelical face” save for Reverend Billy Graham, who best refutes the secular left’s false caricature of Christians as wanting to “impose our views” on America.

Russia should have invaded Belgium

US, Eastern Europe will not lose

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

If Russia’s goal is to re-build an empire, they would stand a better chance with the ignorant appeasing socialists of Western Europe. But they never took West Berlin and they won’t take back Eastern Europe nor Tbilisi, Georgia, thanks to the backbone of the 21st Century Truman, the conservative majority American voters and the United States military as well as the memory of tyranny in east of the Iron Curtain.

Exhibit A:

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and the heads of state of five other nations that had once been dominated by the Soviet Union vowed never to concede the independence they’ve enjoyed since 1991, when the Soviet Union was dissolved.

“The entire world is with us,” Saakashvili told a crowd of thousands that thronged downtown Tbilisi in a late night rally.

On the podium with him were the leaders of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine.

Blame Russia and let Bush be Bush

We can't deter all evil acts by all evil actors in all places at all times

Focus on what we do going forward.

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

Russia invaded the democratic Nation of Georgia for no moral reason or purpose.

The United States of America did not invade said nation. The USA did not “allow” same, nor should they reasonably have been expected to deter same. Multiple war winning and stay the course until victory, insurgency defeating President George W. Bush did nothing, nor failed to do anything, to make said South Ossetia invasion more likely.

A megalomaniac bully with new wealth calculated and planned to commit an irrational evil act.

Yet, the first words out of not a few conservatives’ mouths were uttered, not to denounce the evil actor, but, rather to bemoan what the US should have done or not have done ( some even going back to 1999) or that we were “caught” flat-footed. The most illuminating of the bemoanings were from the gamecock respected Michael Ledeen in an interview with Dennis Prager at the end of which he basically admitted what I have concluded: There is nothing we could have done, short of having troops and tanks stationed everywhere on Earth (and even then), to deter all evil acts everywhere at all times.

Rush, Saxby and Zaxbys Aced [updated]

We can't have our chicken and eat it too

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

[update]

Gamecock has been persuaded to oppose Chambliss and the gang of Ten proposal by the arguments in the comments, all of which were good and cumulative, but the one that tipped me was Texas Ace, whose comment I put in the update below.

But guys and gals, let’s not be so harsh with Saxby at least on the motives.

Ace’s arguments:

I understand your points but I couldn’t disagree more on several points:

Democrats have just made a colossal blunder by going home in the middle of this mess proving everything Republicans have said about the imperial, “Let them eat cake” attitude of San Fan Nan and the rest of the effete snobs that make up the modern Democratic Party.

The Dems are swimming up stream against public opinion that is running 75% against them. This turn of events has injected a little spine in the “Run for the hills if there’s an R by your name” gloom and doomers in the Republican Party who are finally fighting like mean instead of sniveling in a corner waiting for the shoe to drop!

As Republicans keep beating on them, they are home right now getting kicked in the groin by 75% of their constituents. In short…they’re getting a good taste of reality now and we shouldn’t do anything to get in the way of the beating that is being delivered!

I agree that there are some issues to not play politics on…but this ain’t it. Are people hurting right now?…hell yeah! But the compromise they made doesn’t do enough to alleviate that suffering and now is the worse possible time to cave because once the Dems have had their heads handed to them, they’ll be back wanting to do everything we’re asking for!

By caving now, Saxby Shambles and Little Lord Fauntleroy, (as Doc calls him) have bailed them out of their predicament at the exact moment when the Republican party is on the brink of victory. This wouldn’t be so infuriating were it the first time they have done this but it’s not. They always time their capitulation at times that either cause maximum damage to the Republican Party or as in this case…to bail out the Democrats at a time when Republicans are winning!

[end update]

Lots of families in Marietta, Georgia can no longer afford to take their kids to Zaxbys for some great tasting chicken, and they don’t want to wait until no earlier than 2009, 2011 or 2013 as they wait for “the issue” to produce a “perfect” solution.

Especially when we can have both.

I refer here to the presumed conflict between the reawakening of Republicans in the House of Representatives via their week old sit-in strategy demanding a vote on an oil drilling bill as Speaker Pelosi and the “let them eat cake” aka “let them pump tires” Democrats went on a five-week vacation paid for by We the People, too many of which can’t afford a five-minute vacation at KFC, much less five days at Myrtle Beach, thanks to the price of gas and its impact on the price of food and nearly every other necessity of life.

Stephanopoulos OK with prospective racism charges against GOP

Vagueness of "Race card" phrase is MSM tool against Republicans

By Mike DeVine, Legal Editor for The Minority Report and The HinzSight Report

No less than three times in the past several weeks, Barack Obama has asserted that Republicans “will” make racist appeals to scare voters from voting for him.

No one in the MSM had a problem with this slur against millions of American voters. In fact, no one said Obama had, “played the race card,” until he tied McCain’s campaign to the allegation.

Incredibly, George Stephanopoulos, in this past Sunday’s “Who Played the Race Card” segment on his ABC This Week program, explicitly and casually deemed such attacks against generic Republicans as obviously acceptable, as he criticized such attacks against John McCain in the context of the “Obama as Paris Hilton-like celebrity in Berlin” ad.
