The American people have chosen a new Chief Magistrate.
Congratulations to President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama.
All Americans of faith should pray for him and his family despite any political differences. He defeated a true American hero and worthy opponent in John McCain. My candidate lost, but We the People have spoken and it is the duty of us all to respect our Republic’s collective choice.
Those of us that love America must understand that we have only one Executive leader at a time and, especially only one Commander-in-Chief at a time. He will be the face of America to the world, friends and foes alike. His foreign policy will be America’s foreign policy. If his doesn’t succeed, none will, and especially in this area, I urge (just as I did from Reagan-Bush 43), that we try and present a unified front to the world, so long as the United States remains the beacon of Liberty.
He deserves the benefit of the doubt during the transition and after Inauguration Day. There were many good reasons to oppose his election based on his past record, but his Presidency must be judged on what he does from this day forward.
Despite my great disappointment in what I see as a mistaken choice on the part of the majority of Americans last night, I must admit one point of great pride in my country.
As I discussed before the election, one of the driving forces of my life has been the civil rights struggle, especially in my beloved South.
In the early 70s I endured taunts from racists due to my family’s integration efforts and my close black friends. My dream was always that of Martin Luther King’s, (even if it hasn’t always been Obama’s) which was that people of all races could achieve the American Dream through character and hard work.
I watched America and the South slowly but surely achieve that dream many years ago despite the refusal of many to surrender the race victim label under a false definition of civil rights.
So, it is with great pride for me that my chosen Party of Lincoln elevated Clarence Thomas, and Condoleezza Rice. And though I left the Democrat Party after 18 years of activism in 2000, I was overjoyed when my former Democrat friends in the Palmetto State proved their color-blindness and gave Obama victory in their primary earlier this year.
The scene and picture (see above) last night prove what I have known for at least 20 years. America has lived up to its creed. In America, it is self-evident:
All men are created equal, and his policies on civil rights and executions of the law in the years ahead will be equally examined with those of his predecessors as Chief Magistrate, here at the Examiner.
All Presidents are also created equal.

I'm not going to offer congratulations
Dave_in_Fla Wednesday, November 5th at 11:44AM EST (link)I’ll agree that he is president, but given the unfair nature of the election and the number of laws that were broken in the process, offering congratulations is a bit much.

c17wife Wednesday, November 5th at 12:13PM EST (link)Barack won this election for one reason and one reason only. He took the victimhood of the brothers, a victimhood he NEVER suffered, and exploited it to the hilt. He is nothing more than a smooth talking Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.
And South Carolina was full of idiots that were bamboozled and hoodwinked by the finest. I’m embarrassed by the Palmetto State. They should have known better.
He ain’t my president. And it kills me that he has to be hubby’s CINC, since he has such obvious disdain for those in uniform.

Mike gamecock DeVine Wednesday, November 5th at 12:56PM EST (link)learned a lot about him after SC (and even before). My pride in SC was of the people proving themselves, not in Obama.
All I am saying is that now he has been hired to do a job. Let’s judge him on how he does the job, and try and maximize benefits for America. We can’t do that by attacking him now and we esp can’t do it by sabotaging foreign policy.
From what I can tell, you were disagreeing with things I didn’t say. If I am wrong, be specfic about what I said that is wrong.

Steph C Wednesday, November 5th at 7:16PM EST (link)What makes you think he’s going to suddenly be different occupying the office?
He lied, he cheated to raise funds, he intimidated, and the only creed he seems to have is political expediency.
He basically stole this election with all the things he did to win it; a claim made about both Bush’s elections. Nancy Pelosi stood in the Capitol and said she’d never recognize Bush as President.
I may be forced to live with this and the assaults on our basic human rights but in my heart this man is not the President, but a usurper. His own actions and those of his supporters made him so.

I dunno.
Steph C Thursday, November 6th at 10:09AM EST (link)I have to think about it. It seems a neverending wrangle between one party and the other no matter who is “in charge”. Erick has a post about this insanity. It seems the Republicans in Washington think if they can’t beat the Democrats it must be better to join them and that’s just wrong.
That’s what has been going on slowly but surely for decades. It’s not good for the country and it’s certainly not good for the future as the Democrats are slowly winning their war of turning this country into a simulacrum of the socialist nations they so admire without regard to the real world effects that are being imposed.
Obama wants to remake the nation and the world. He can do that with just remaking the nation. If America fails to stand for what it should it will indeed remake the world through the balance of powers.
This is a time of choosing. Do we stand fast for the principles upon which this nation was founded and just say no to the excesses of Washington’s infinitely growing government or do we refuse to be a party to it and let those who will own the folly of their own making?
We need to challenge our conservative leaders to stand fast and not be a party to any of the liberal excesses that are in planning, not even if they think they can minimize the damage. They never do because the law of unintended consequences always wins out and then have to shoulder the blame because they were party to it and the Democrats never accept responsibility for anything they cause.
Republicans, conservative or not, need to just say no to any and all new legislation no matter what “carrots” the Democrats use as bribes. They won’t need to filibuster and make a lot of noise, just simply refuse to be a party to the wholesale rape of the nation. Let the Democrats own fully what they want to impose.
Just hold the line… for two years, four if necessary, just hold the line. Let the socialists and closet fascists implode as they cannibalize each other. I’m tired of being the scapegoat because our leaders think they must “do” something when all they’re doing is saving the Democratic party from itself and extending the political war.
This is where “we the people” need to do our part. We need to sacrifice something of our own, whether it’s wealth, security, or whatever you hold most dear, and have faith in God that we can come out of this for the better, not just for ourselves but future generations. Conservatives can survive any hardship and be better for it if we just stand strong and refuse to accept the status quo.
Otherwise, we’re going to fight this same battle into infinity.

Had Ron Paul been given some serious attention, or serious thought, which most of you are incapable of, he would have been able to focus the traditional, conservative message into something Americans could relate to, which would have translated into votes. Not this Neocon version of [expletive deleted] in John McShame. Instead you gave the people one of the worst choices in electoral history. That’s why Republicans lost big time. And that’s why it’ll never come back.

What I find embarrassing and infuriating are the moonbats on the right that are already calling for his impeachment on Red State, other sites and on youtube before the man has even been sworn in and without any evidence that he’s even committed a crime.

Steph C Thursday, November 6th at 12:00PM EST (link)These are actually part of the thoughts I was going to put into a diary in the next day or two.
Actually, GC. I’m not going to criticize one way or the other. Criticism in the political swamp just makes the waters murkier. I’m of the frame of mind now to simply state to the Democrats and RINOs: “You break, you own it.” No more of pointing fingers and excusing it by saying “everybody is doing it.”
We can’t stop this by going on in the same way we’ve been going. If it’s clear to the libs that they will own every piece of what they do, they won’t do half of it. However, it takes a lot of political courage to take such a stand and I haven’t seen our leaders as all that courageous. Witness the bailout, aka Crap Sandwich. If conservatives had stood their ground the thing would never have passed without the Dems owning it fully. Since they are at the heart of the mess, they should own it fully. However, instead, they get away with blaming the Republicans once again, although there it took more Dems to pass it because some brave souls still said, “no.”
The Dems idea of bipartisanship is to have enough Reps to sign on to make the vote look even, then when it all turns to crap, look who gets the blame. That’s not bipartisanship. That’s abuse.

I respectfully disagree
FJG Thursday, November 6th at 5:43PM EST (link)While I understand where you are coming from, I cannot in good conscious congratulate Obama nor can I acknowledge him as President.
If I merely a disagreed with Obama on issues and policy, I would be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and a chance to prove himself. I can even overlook some of the spin, as all politicians are guilty of doing so. And while his actions and associates prior to his presidential campaign raise countless red flags, we have all made mistakes and fallen in with the “wrong crowd” at some point in our lives.
However, it is the actions he participated in and the actions of his supporters that he condoned during his pursuit of the presidency that prevent me from acknowledging him. He violated the Logan Act, accepted foreign money in his campaign, encouraged fraud (voter and financial) and used racism to become elected. His followers used vandalism, intimidation, fraud, and racism to ensure his election. A man with such blatant disregard of the law has no business being in a position where he is required to enforce the law.
His election is not a celebration of what America has overcome but a bitter realization of what we have been reduced to. Our country has produced countless great Americans, such as Ms. Rice, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Steele, Mr. Keyes, Mr. Jindal, Mr. Garza, Mr. Vargas, and Mr. Gutierrez, who have all earned positions of prestige and power because of their achievements and who they are as individuals, not because of their race. Obama was not elected regardless of his race but because of it. As far as I am concerned if you support someone merely because of their race then you are committing racism. If you play the race card, then you are committing racism. When the day comes that a man or woman is elected president because of their integrity, beliefs, policies and vision, regardless of the color of their skin, then we will have cause to celebrate. But that day is not today and it will not be in Jan. 2009.
So no, I cannot congratulate or acknowledge Obama as president. And I will not pretend that this is a civil rights victory.
Not my president...
HoosierLife Thursday, November 6th at 9:09PM EST (link)As many of you already know I am not a fan of President Bush and I have spoken out against him, but at the same time I still say I would take a bullet for him because he is my President.
Obama excepted foreign money… Ok I remember seeing a report that 12-15% of his foreign donations might of been a problem which counted for .05% of his funds, but I also saw in the same report that not all of McCain’s funds were problem free. This point stop your complaining you just being scornful.
Encouraged voter fraud… Ok is that now your excuse why Republicans lost?
And now he used racism to get elected… The only way I could see your point is if you are saying he wanted to increase African American turnout. Which is no different that trying to turn out the white evangelical vote. Also your list only includes minority Republicans…. surprising
Listen people he will be your President in a few months and the least you can do is accept that anything less is purely unAmerican. There I said it. For all the “Christians” here to see this raging hatred of a man and can’t even accept that he will be our leader. It is sad.
Many of you should be ashamed. I don’t try to act pious most of the time I am cynical, but I am completely shocked that people are so driven by their hatred to not even respect the outcome of an election.
The election was not stolen, bought, or rigged. McCain had to run against a Republican party that has been destroyed and a President in the high 20s in approval and he still got 47% of the vote. It is time to grow up and to quote the line I am reading before I post this comment

DonPMitchell Thursday, November 6th at 9:13PM EST (link)It’s nice to hear a gracious, respectful response to the election result.
America faces many challenges now — energy, the economy, terrorism. Everyone, liberal and conservative, must work together now to build infrastructure, and get the country back to work. Obama is a very intelligent and superbly educated man, and circumstances will either thrust greatness upon him now or show that he (like Clinton) cannot apply high intelligence in a practical manner. For America’s sake, I hope he will be great.
Republicans under Bush and the Neo Conservatives and the radical religious right have lost support from moderates, independents and fiscal conservatives. I’ve seen a few (not recommended) diaries saying “moderates get out”. I got news for those folks: the moderates have been long gone, and we need them back!
Conservatives have a strong sensible message that celebrates Americanism as the founding fathers envisioned it, freedom, opportunity, and tolerance (”One out of many”). I would point out Eric Hoffer’s book Ordeal of Change, which does a wonderful job of articulating Americanism and debunking socialism. It was a message very much like that articulated by Ronald Reagan. Americanism is not about zealotry and mass movements, it is about practical organization by normal everyday people.
A friend of mine who is a democrat was telling me a few days ago that he favored McCain’s tax plan, because it was important to stimulate business and create jobs. This from a working-class man who is struggling to keep his home right now, but he did comprehend a long view of how capitalism works. People can and do understand these ideas. But I felt like only McCain himself was articulating his message, while others were pushing devisive wedge issues; or worse yet, trying to convince people that Obama was secretly a Muslim. I think we are seeing a real backlash against that kind of devisive politics.

Next I actually listened to his entire speech and he was talking about slavery. You know the blind spot that was there. You know the spot where all men were not created equal and how he was basically saying that there is still some racism in society today.
If tommorow the Democrats were able to pass a Constitutional Amendment saying Abortion is ok I am sure you wouldn’t respect that aspect of it. You would say it was a blind spot that it wasn’t protecting the unborn.
Next time you wish to get in an argument with me actually pay attention to my target. Unlike you I am not surprised by the outcome because I have been warning everyone here about this coming for along time and the reason is because many people here don’t really want a Republican majority because if they did they would actually start asking why don’t we have 1 Republican Congressman in New England.
Again reactionary attitudes spoil the message. I am agreeing with GC, but because I am targeting other people here you getting all worked up.

DonPMitchell Friday, November 7th at 12:01AM EST (link)Of course, political viewpoints are multidimensional, and they cannot be totally ordered from “left” to “right”. I’m not sure how one even defines a “moderate”.
On redstate.com, my impression is that you are not a first class citizen unless you toe the line completely on social conservative issues. Even suggesting that the theory of evolution is true will earn you a very rude reception. It’s easy to get an impression that you have to be far into a particular corner of the political hyper cube, or else you are a “moderate”. But can you build a national party after you’ve cleaved off all the people who don’t agree with you on so many issues?

tcgeol Friday, November 7th at 12:06AM EST (link)but I believe you are mostly right. There is no question, though, that we need conservative leadership. If our tent is so big that it covers every conceivable opinion, we stand for nothing.
I will say, though, that generally when someone talks about a “divisise wedge issue”, it usually refers to any issue that that particular person doesn’t care about or disagrees with. Most issues are important in their own right and deserve discussion and debate.

Do we oppose Obama's attacks on our freedom?
Freedoms Truth Friday, November 7th at 5:11PM EST (link)I wont attack him on foreign stuff now… BUT … it is our DUTY as citizens to protect our rights and liberties, and the Democrat Congress and Obama pose a clear and present danger to our liberties in a number of areas:
Attacks on 1st amendment rights with “Fairness Doctrine”
Attacks on prosperity with tax hikes and cap and trade
Attacks on our sovereignty (sellouts to UN)
Attacks on workers rights with end to secret ballot
We have a duty to oppose these horrible and wrong-headed policies from DAY ONE. They were not advertized by Obama and we know why - they are payoffs to their liberal special interests.
Do we oppose Obama’s attacks on our freedom?
I say - “Of course, it’s our duty.” As the liberals liked to say, dissent is patriotic.

Obama - My Worst-in-a-lifetime President
Freedoms Truth Friday, November 7th at 5:53PM EST (link)In Reagan era, a Democrat at work would say
“He’s not MY President”
I got vitriol about GHWB from a liberal co-worker during his term.
When Clinton won, my liberal boss laughed “Ha, that’s the end of Rush Limbaugh” (not quite).
After 2000, there was no congrats and shows of unity. I recall Sore Loserman spending 40 days trying to undo the election and then using the joke line about being elected, getting most votes. And the silly media meme that since the vote was close, Bush had to have 50/50 cabinet… Excuse me, will Obama has 54% Dem and 46% GOP in his cabinet?
In 2004, My family gleefully watched “Farenheit 911″ where the president was slandered and smeared in an eleand we were assaulted with the “Bushitler” and “chimp” and that silly ‘apology’ from voters saying they were sorry Bush was re-elected.
So … lets get real. the same goons insisting on ‘unity’ now for Obama would be the last to give it out if McCain won.
OUR DUTY WILL BE TO FORM THE PATRIOTIC AND HONORABLE OPPOSITION. OUR LOYALTY IS TO COUNTRY FIRST, NOT PARTY, NOT CULT-OF-PERSONALITY LEADER. I will not attack Obama personally (its pointless anyway) unless he engages in misconduct or dishonesty (well that will happen often), but we MUST oppose him when he’s wrong.
Thus, I will call Obama - My Worst-in-a-lifetime President.

I don't think you understand...
FJG Friday, November 7th at 10:09PM EST (link)… what I said.
I am not making excuses as to why Republicans lost. Nor am I claiming that the election has been “stolen, bought or rigged.” Those are completely different topics, for completely different threads.
Mr. DeVine stated that Obama “deserves the benefit of the doubt during the transition and after Inauguration Day” and that while “there were many good reasons to oppose his election based on his past record, but his Presidency must be judged on what he does from this day forward.”
I believe that you judge an individual’s presidency from the moment that they start to campaign for the office. Their actions in the pursuit of office are reflective of their future behavior in office. In Obama’s pursuit of the presidency, he and his supporters broke numerous laws countless times. I agree that these illegal acts were not the decisive factor in the election and that Republicans made many mistakes as well. However, if someone is willing to personally break laws and ignore/condone the illegal acts of his followers, then he will continue this behavior once in office. Part of the job of the POTUS is to make sure that our laws are enforced. I cannot support a man who has already broken the laws he is supposed to enforce and uphold as POTUS in his quest for the office.
As for racism: When you use race-baiting tactics as part of your campaign to get elected, when your surrogates make racist statements and accusations against your opponent and their supporters, when you condone your surrogates’ behavior with your refusal to condemn their comments and behavior, you are participating in racism. When you vote and/or campaign for someone whose policies, values and beliefs are the complete opposite of yours because of that person’s race, you are participating in racism. It is that simple. I know many co-workers and friends who voted Obama because he is African-American even though he stands for and advocates the complete opposite of what they believe in. And how many times were Republicans and other McCain supporters called racist or accused of holding “hate rallies?” Obama’s civil rights dream is not the civil rights dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. And I will not pretend that it is the same. I believe that we as Americans have the ability to achieve and surpass Martin Luther King’s dream and I believe that we have made great strides towards accomplishing our goal of being a truly equal people. But this election was a big step backwards from that goal and only time will tell how far it set us back.
I don’t hate Obama but as I previously stated I cannot support a man who breaks the laws he seeks to uphold. Nor can I support a man who participates in and encourages racism. (Not when I have been a victim of it and have had friends who have been victims of it.)
But wait, McCain and Obama stole the Hope

Florida screwed up? Well, maybe
GregInFla Saturday, November 8th at 1:40PM EST (link)The die was cast in the primaries. McCain’s general election campaign was the second lousiest run campaign (Fred’s primary one was the worst, and I’m a fredhead). And I admit, our Gov. Crist (Rino) did his part to get McCain nominated, but little else to get him elected. McCain’s campaign did nearly nothing with the local GOP organizations when it came to speaking appearances. They kept the locals in the dark, making arrangements with no input or notice to the locals. Locals were told to keep news of the visits secret for days. Tickets were distributed here via the party HQs, but at events tickets were not checked and McCain brought lots of people from outside to take up many seats.
Elsewhere, minorities (except the Cuban folks) see Obama as their savior. Jeb Bush did nothing to help McCain here. Seniors was their retirement accounts drop a third in value, and the housing market here in worse than other states. And I don’t know if the final numbers include the many military absentee ballots.

Politics is supposed to stop at the water's edge
David123 Saturday, November 8th at 3:38PM EST (link)Unfortunately, much of the Democratic party violated this rule for a long time. However, Republicans should continue to let politics stop at the water’s edge.
Hopefully, President Obama will defend America competently and assertively. This could even be a blessing, since it will be hard for Democrats to attack one of their own party for defending America.
Let us hope and pray that Obama does the right thing. If he doesn’t, let us hope and pray that any damage can be fixed in 2013.

GC, If only one president, then who pays the others?
GregInFla Saturday, November 8th at 6:35PM EST (link)Obama has these huge staffs of transition team members, economic advisors, and the like. Is his campaign paying for them? Or is my tax money paying for all these advisors and transition folks of the official “President-Elect of the USA”? Obviously during the campaign, Obama’s hundreds of millions of dollars covered the cost, but what now? I’ve heard nothing on this.
Also, I would imagine that the new unemployment numbers included the vast numbers of people employed by Obama and McCain campaigns, or at least will be included in the November report. Then again, how can Obama fire all those people? I mean, even thought there is no reason to keep them, does not that make Obama just another cruel, greedy, mean CEO for firing his employees? :^)

Jack_Savage Sunday, November 9th at 12:12AM EST (link)As far as anyone who supported him is concerned (especially the MSM), He IS the President.
What that means is that the clock starts ticking right now - Pelosi, Reid and Obama are firmly in charge, and whatever happens from now on is on their / his watch. The honeymoon will be over before the inaugaration.
As Joe Biden says, mark my words. In their rush to seize power they have committed what may turn out to be a colossal blunder.

Jack_Savage Sunday, November 9th at 1:09PM EST (link)Now to me and you, the clock starts ticking when Obama takes office. This is because we understand how things work.
However, if one has been part of the snarling, angry, liberal secessionist movement, or their sycophants in the media, you’ve won, it’s over, move out of the way George Bush. THAT’S what I mean when I say the clock starts ticking now.
Case in point - when Bill Clinton was elected after 12 years of Reagan / Bush, the pressure on him by the left was so intense that even before he was inaugarated, Jay Leno was joking about “the failed Clinton presidency”.
