The Hunt by Red August bodes ill for ObamOctobers

Russian subs detected patroling Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the first time since the Cold War ended. No indication this commander wishes to defect to Montana like Sean Connery.

As a candidate, Joe Biden predicted an international test of the young president within six months; that a President Barack Obama’s initial response would be widely seen as weak; and that it was crucial that Democrats rally to his side. This sub-test just happened today, so we will listen to the crickets chirping for another 24 hours before passing judgment.

But is this the first real international test or are the provocative patrols a result of tests already failed?

After all, candidate Obama expressed moral indifference between the Russian invader and the invaded Georgians when Valdimir Putin first took a portion of Ossetia last fall. A President George W. Bush directed aresenal of the bodies of Secretary of State Condi Rice and a united Georgia, Ukraine, Poland and Czech Republic along with ships and planes prevented Russian advances at the time.

Does anyone pine for The Bush Cowboy now or do we think the community organizer can take on this horse rider:

Since then, President Obama has proposed cutting defense funds for the now operable Strategic Missile Defense; called into question our promises to deploy same on behalf of the above nations; and announced the same less than 48 hours after North Korea launched missile towards his Hawaiian birthplace.

Not to be outdone, the President also caved, today, to NK demands for direct negotiations by sending former President Bill Clinton to Pyong Yang to bring home two journalist hostages.

This all comes less than a week after Russia claimed Georgian forces fired across a border at Russian troops, as an obvious pretext for taking the remainder of Ossetia and all of Georgia. Does anyone think Putin fears Obama like he did Bush?

Also this week, Cuban President Raoul Castro mocked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that better relations require concessions by Cuba, with a reply to Obama’s recent reach out legislation relaxing sanctions, by declaring their Communist system to be permanent.

Putin and his Russian government have been enraged for years by the incorporation of former Soviet slave states in Eastern Europe into NATO, but given Obama’s appeasement documented above; his numerous apology tours apologizing to Iran, terrorist sponsoring states (echoed by Bill Clinton today in NK); and his alliance with South America’s biggest socialist in Venezuela against the Rule of Law in Honduras, maybe they have another goal.

Rather than trying to dissuade further NATO expansion, maybe Putin thinks Obama would have America join a new Warsaw pact.

I just saw the story on Drudge. We are a submarine family here so those stories always catch my eye.

But my favorite line in your diary: “Does anyone pine for The Bush Cowboy now or do we think the community organizer can take on this horse rider.” That line says it all.

PS, Freudian slip, I first typed “horse raider” then realized my mistake…still fits I think.

(she voted McCain and can’t stand Obama) and recently admitted to me that she thinks she is really a Republican.

Up until now she was too caught up in what she thought she was supposed to be. I think there are a lot more out there like her.

It is fun to talk about the little things that seem to be bugging the White House, but it is important and necessary to be reminded that important events are taking place while the White House tries to divert attention away.

a lady I used to work with, her husband was retired from the military but when he was in the military he was a chief navigator (I think that was his title ?) on submarines. They had kids my age and they were really nice to me. One of many nice things she did was at least twice when I needed to be off for my son she worked for me so I wouldn’t have to call in.

This is what happens when you elect a crypto-pacifist, except that he was not all that crypto.

Nobama will do nothing, because he refuses to believe anything but his own propaganda. In his ideology the Russians are not a problem, nor are the Palestinians, Islamic terrorists, North Koreans, Iranians, etc.

The only problem plaguing the world is America. American exceptionalism, American prosperity, American ambition for progress: all of it creates problems for the rest of the world, says this ideology, because America thereby jumps out in front of the rest of the world, making it feel bad, and even inferior, making it more polluted, making it more capitalistic and prosperous, all of which melts glaciers and ruins the ozone layer and kills of animals.

When America is dismantled through the War On Business and given its comeuppance, when it is properly humbled by becoming impossibly indebted to and dependent upon former 3rd-world nations like China and India and Korea, when America walks and rides bikes while its vehicles are recycled into tin roofs for African hovels, when its Constitution is reinterpreted into oblivion, only then will Nobama be satisfied that the source of all the world’s problems has been spayed and neutered.

Is the invitation active, or passive?

    Naive, or cunning?

    Just saying.

    Weakness is an invitation.
The Democrats have spent the last four years telling the whole world how much they despise the military, respect the terrorists and have no stomach for conflict. Apparently someone was listening.
Obama’s State Dept. is so weak that he had to send Bill Clinton to NoKo to get the two girls back.
I had no idea Bill Clinton worked for the State Dept. I was under the impression it was his wife that ran things over there.
I also would like to know who provided that gigantic jet he was on since the State Dept claimed that Clinton was not acting on behalf of Obama.

The report said Clinton then conveyed a message from President Obama “expressing profound thanks for this and reflecting views on ways of improving the relations between the two countries.”

But White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters in Washington before the announced agreement that Clinton was not carrying any message — written or oral — from Obama.

Gibbs added that the former president last spoke with Obama during a White House visit in March. He described Clinton’s trip as a “solely private mission to secure the release of two Americans.”

    Someone is lying.

showing off his chest while riding a horse (ultimate masculine symbol, and co-opting the American symbol of the cowboy) has appeared at the same time that his submarines are patrolling our coast.

As I mentioned under my diary about North Korea, propaganda symbolism matters to dictators: here we have Putin strutting his stuff physically and militarily and daring our pacifistic Anorexic In Chief to do something about it.

    Sad, but true!

    From an Australian news source:

“His latest posturing came as Russia continued to flex its political muscle.

Last night Moscow claimed neighbour Georgia was re-arming with the aim of waging a military conflict, amid rising tensions ahead of the anniversary of the states’ August 2008 war.

“We clearly see that Georgia is re-arming to previous levels and higher” than before the 2008 conflict, Russia’s deputy chief of staff General Anatoly Nogovitsin said.

Russia warned it would hit back if the Georgian provocations continued. Georgia denied any violations of the ceasefire and in turn accused Russia of breaking the truce.

Earlier yesterday Moscow shrugged off a report that Russian submarines had renewed patrols off the US coast and said any movements of its vessels were legal.

“Activities of Russian submarines in the world’s oceans outside their own waters do not violate international maritime law and are within normal practice,” an official said. ”

See? No story here, move along!

Nothing to worry about, except from American fear-mongerers who would like to reignite the Cold War to help their allies in the weapons industry! “The One” is right to play it cool!

    If only!

the difference now is that Bush acted to remind Putin that he has no hesitance to use force. Obama has made it plain he will not.

are currently writing and/or have already agreed on the fastest way to take advantage of “his” weakness. Not all dictators are created equal, but most are smart enough to realize 2 heads are better than 1.

And your “tests failed” is Beautiful.

Russian subs make me leery. Molotov-Ribbentrop… The list Churchill showed Stalin, who made a check mark indicating thumbs up. Not to be outdone, will Putin challenge The One to a naked chest contest?

  • roscopico

There is no lie if you parse the statement…
“…the former president last spoke with Obama during a White House visit in March.?
    That may very well be.

In the world of the post-modernist, the phrase “solely private mission”, can mean just about anything… solely private probably refers to the fact it wasn’t Air Force One (or the Pelosi Carbon Express).

From the perspective of disbelievers in Truth, anything can be, or is true (depending what the definition of “is” is).
