MEMBER DIARY

911, God, Texans, Great Depression II, and The Georgia Game

How war and want concentrates the mind on what matters most, ten years on

We miss our loved ones that died of natural causes before that Day and we well remember The Day America’s idyllic vacation from history ended as seminal even as we suffer under economic depression.

Many can’t afford Le Seuer peas, but this generic brand consumer still loves life and thanks God for the Texan that kept more alive when murderous Islamist evil visited our shores. In the wake of the Towers’ fall, the memory of Gore-ish multiple personalities faded for a time, as even Democrats saw the need for Daddy.

But President George W. Bush-driven safety and prosperity returned and with it Florida’s bloody shirt and late 90s WMD-amnesia, majority Democratic Party congressional votes for the War in Iraq notwithstanding. While the aroma of death still defined Ground Zero, it was self evident that Saddam could not taunt us from his safe terrorist state. But soon (albeit, after a certain Texan was re-elected Commander-on-Cheif) the aroma of Utopian Hope and Change animated and suddenly, keeping America free from Sea to Shining Sea took a back seat.

Last week, the son of Doris Kearnes Goodwin bemoaned that it was, ” too bad there had been no call (from President Bush) to all Americans to sacrifice and for unity? In the BushLied Era?

Maybe they wanted to practice the forced sacrifice of the American Dream in exchange for a Democratic Congress, TARP (Senator Obama voted for it and the two last budgets forced on Bush, which kind of puts what President Obama inherited into perspective, no?) ObamaCare and the stimulation of Labor Union dues for Democrats in Food Stamp Nation.

Life after September 11, 2001 and before the end of Great Depression II

But life goes on for those of us that remain. Before 911, we lost loved ones and it still hurts. Before there was an America to save from the liberals, there were 5000 years of history and a Christ that died for all lives. And as important as America and its standard of living are, the main point of all this is about us, each human being, and God.

We are being tested, and the same God our forefathers and Governor Rick Perry of Texas invokes for local control of public schools, is still on the throne.

Bill Keller and the New York Times scoff at a “theocracy” threat to the USA emanating from the Lone Star State while Muslims in their secular, multi-cultural, Manhattan paradise return the favor with in-your-face Ground Zero Mosques. Meanwhile, thousands of Muslims in Texas can’t wait to fellowship on Family Day at Six Flags.

We can’t make it to the rollercoaster this weekend, but we told you last week that if enough footballs got kicked around, it would get cooler. Voila!…before the Autumnal Equinox.

And now, for The Game in the SEC East. Yes, I’ve heard Rocky Top ad nauseum and I’ve heard of a cocktail party on a “neutral” field in Jacksonville, …wait, here it comes…Florida.

And yes, we want to tame Clemson Tigers before winter bowling, but the juggernaut that is putting the senior USC (founded 1801)  on the BCS mapjust now points to a gridiron on a campus in Georgia against Bulldogs, as the defining game of what we dare hope to be our greatest Gamecock season.

get enougn Rocky Top or howls from Smokey for that matter.

You really should be more careful next time in commenting anything related to Tennessee so close to “USC.” Of course, now I realize you meant South Carolina, but for a minute there, all I could see was the USC that is Lame Kiffin. Go Big Orange!

I, too, am grateful to President Bush for his actions after 9/11, despite my disappointment in his handling of other matters.

Loving the cooler weather, football and your diary (until the slam against the best college fight song ever). But I can get on board pulling for the Gamecocks against Georgia based just on how bad those Bulldog uniforms looked last week.

Thanks for the reminder of a few things we hold dear. May God Bless America indeed and keep those who lost loved ones on 9/11 in his tender care.

you must understand that UT plays the song after every score and the Halloween night game in Knoxville two years ago still haunts this rooster when the Vols ended my Gamecocks dreams by blowing us out on national TV…smile…but 2010 was sweet.

A genius in the sense that he manages to get great high paying jobs with absolutely no accomplishments. He and Obama are peas in a pod.

    Wish I could do that.

we hold dear. Today on my run, as I jogged past a little league football game in the center of my favorite park, I pondered why those of us in the South love football so much.

I think it is because it is full of tradition, family, and reminders of how America used to be and should be. God, family, country, and football seem to be a way of life around here and mostly in that order.

On a lighter note, I am happy OSU won on Thursday. Love the black uniforms. Already tired of the conference shake-up and not all too thrilled to have to play the likes of USC and UCLA. It might be an easier conference than the SEC, but the SEC would be more fun.

The whole nation loved baseball first. But the South, due to poverty after the civil war etc, had no MLB teams or pro football/basketball until the 60s.

The South also is more of a scots-irish warrior culture…football.

And we did have colleges that could compete with northern schools.
