Google it: Chick-fil-A boycotts Sundays so gays can eat more beef?

Media, same-sex marriage advocates (named Ed only?) get louder even as their cause loses state electoral contests

Two months ago, North Carolina voters rubbed their tar heels in the same-sex marriage movement’s face and becoming the 31st state to pass a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. (If only President Barack Obama had “evolved” sooner?) Ten other states have statutes defining marriage as exclusively a union between one man and one woman. Six states and the District of Columbia now issue marriage licences to same sex couples, but a majority of voters of no state has ever approved of the practice.

It turns out that one member of the vast majority of Americans that agrees with  88% of the states is Dan Cathy, president of Atlanta-based fast-food giant, Chick-fil-A:

The company invests in Christian growth and ministry through its WinShape Foundation (WinShape.com). The name comes from the idea of shaping people to be winners. It began as a college scholarship and expanded to a foster care program, an international ministry, and a conference and retreat center modeled after the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove.

“That morphed into a marriage program in conjunction with national marriage ministries,” Cathy added. Some have opposed the company’s support of the traditional family. “Well, guilty as charged,” said Cathy when asked about the company’s position.

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. We operate as a family business … our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that,” Cathy emphasized.

“We intend to stay the course,” he said. “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

Mainstream media report a “firestorm” over Cathy’s comments but this opposite-sex gamecock divorcee (and, full disclosure, regular consumer of fried chicken and pickles on buttered buns at the behest of black-and-white-splotched cows) can only find one “prominent” boycott on the first two pages of a Google search:

Hollywood actor Ed Helms sent a message on Twitter on Wednesday saying he is now boycotting Chick-fil-A.

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t like gay people? So lame. Hate to think what they do to gay chickens. Lost a loyal fan,” wrote Helms.

But the company’s continued commitment seems to have overcome some homosexual groups who have called for previous boycotts.

“We’ve moved on,” Heather Cronk, managing editor of Get Equal, a national LGBT group, told the AJC, saying many in the gay community stopped dining at the chain long ago.”

How “loyal” a fan can one be if they just found out last week that the restaurant famous for being closed on Sundays before they hired the cows, has based its business practices on Biblical principles since its founding in the late 1960s?

But seriously, are there enough gays, lesbians, transvestites, transgenders and even gender questioners anywhere except San Francisco and Mid-Town Atlanta to make an ongoing boycott discernible? I’m asking, and shouldn’t boycotting same-sex marriage advocates be defined as intolerant, anti-parental-diversity-for-children-o-phobe bigots?

Surely Google Inc., especially after launching a new world-wide campaign for same-sex marriage (unless the profits in a particular country, say China, outweigh speaking out against other human rights such as the right to speak unfavorably against the Communist Party or not have an abortion if ordered to do so by Red Chinese), doesn’t have its search engines play down the so-called non-Ed Helms portion of the “firestorm”? And btw, does Ed smoke?

Meanwhile, will Questioners soon accuse LGBTers of hating on them for removing the “Q” from the former LGBTQ inclusive acronym? And will former Massachusetts congressman Barney “Banking Queens” Frank finally be cured of leasing space prostitution by his recent same-sex marriage? We continue to search for an announced boycott against a company because its president affirmed opposition to parental diversity as we advocate a boycott against boycotts as Chick-fil-A weathers Ed’s.

Chick-fil-A day and I’ll gladly participate. I’m going for the original, yum!

I like your writing style and too find it refreshing for a company of values not to bow to criticism. Like the Boy Scouts recently too.

Now I’m hungry for a Chick-fil-A…if only they delivered!

I may swing by for a milkshake or two.. but not on Wednesday.

Not a fan of Huckabee or his ideological idiot brother Santorum.

In neither of their cases is their presumed support for Chick-Fil-A based on the idea of liberty, rather it’s based on the idea of increasing control *for their definition of “the right people”.*

How did we get to point in this nation where a place that sells chicken sandwiches to families become politically controversial?

This is, this is, this is…. is… is… unbelievable. How do you explain this sort of crap to an eight-year-old, anyway:

“Daddy, tell me again why we can’t go to Chick-Fil-A? Daddy? Huh?”

  • checkmate2012

I assure you. I’m sorry really. If it matters, I would never vote for Huck or Santorum, but did think in this chicken case, Huck praised the company for holding true to their values. That’s all.

  • checkmate2012

not the right wing. We’ve seen this before in other boycotts be it left or right and it’s wrong, unless a company is blantantly advertising its own agenda, which Chick-fil-A didn’t except when asked. There are may inane examples and I agree it should stop.

in Atlanta and Richmond that are Chick-Fil-A owner operators and the chain has always been a big part of our family. I’m an atheist (not the militant kind) myself, but I have always appreciated the Cathys for running a business that is truly honest and uncompromising to their principles. They are just good people.

Every single Chick-Fil-A you go to is exactly the same in terms of quality. Top notch. It’s not like hoping the McDonald’s you are going to is going to be “one of the good ones”.

Chick-Fil-A isn’t a franchise operation, they are all 51%-49% joint ventures, with the 51% belonging to the corporation. That way they can replace you if you are underperforming and damaging the brand. Doesn’t happen often!

Their background check and interview process is thorough. They DO NOT ask any questions about whether you attend church or anything like that, contrary to what the Left probably believes about them. My in-laws that have one have never set foot in a church in their lives, but they operate the business on the same principles and so are successful together. Thus, the amount of “tolerance” displayed by Chick-Fil-A is hugely more than any that could ever be claimed by the Left.

Chick-Fil-A is seen as the upscale fast food alternative, and as a result is primarily located in monied neighborhoods. Those people will remain loyal customers regardless of their political stripe, because the guilt factor of taking your kids to Chick-Fil-A is nonexistent, especially as compared to getting them a Happy Meal or something worse.

This whole interview was Dan Cathy answering questions honestly. You won’t a better example of humility, conviction, and business acumen together in one person. What other Christian organization of any kind has built such a brand?

  • texasref

I’m gay. I approve of anything Chick-Fil-A wants to do to improve families. We don’t have to agree on the definitions to make a difference for the better in whatever way we see fit.

I don’t feel poorer when someone who doesn’t include me wants to do good for the folks that person does include. I just continue to try “living by example.”

I love gamecock and his articles, and I’m even going to recommend it. I just hope people in their comments don’t push the line on generic attacks (direct or subtle) on LGBT folks and please confine it to the whacky political views most of them have.

  • Common_Cents

Yet the militant left is almost always bashing people, while claiming they are open minded. Frankly I’ve never seen more close minded nasty people as I have on the left.

Chick fil A was a client for years and years with two prominent products on their menu. Nothing but top notch people at HQ and operating the units. A total class operation.

I bet not one same sex proponent or anyone else has been refused to be served by Chick Fil A.

If I was building a Christian-based brand I would read every book Truett Cathy has ever written (I have). It’s a recipe for success. There are a lot of Christian organizations that do lots and lots of good, yet are still targets for the Left. Chick-Fil-A is so wildly successful that nobody dares mount a boycott, because they know they will fail. That’s what happened here. Our ideological enemies are reprehensible but they aren’t stupid. Some of the time.

  • ncfamilyman

My grandaughter went to work for this company after graduation from College. She says it is a great company to work for and the training in management is superb. We have been customers for well over 20 years. Not only is the food excellent quality, but the customer service is superior to most restaurants. We will stay customers as long as we can drive in the car to get there.

  • zachv

I’d probably have to drive 150+ miles to get to one, which is probably why I have never have heard of them before. Besides, I wouldn’t eat at the majority of fast food restaurants even if you paid me. Great abs come at a steep price.

How does gay people marrying in their own private lives affect you? Aren’t you for less infiltration into private lives? Why would the government stop them? Makes you look like a hypocrite. Oh, and a bigot.

The sky will not fall. Straight couples will continue to divorce (wait, isn’t that against family values??), straight couples will continue cheating on each other, less men will be competing for the hot women out there.

Mind boggling that people would want to suppress somebody else, because they think it’s “gross” or whatever.

But congrats, way to “save traditional families!”

have higher rates of divorce than heterosexual couples. Homosexual women have even higher rates than both groups. I know that was beside your point, but I am tired of people using other peoples’ divorce to trash my view of marriage.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

is that adulterers and fornicators aren’t marching in parades claiming victim status and demanding acceptance for their behavior by society or for the government to change the definition of marriage to suit their own agenda.

Seriously, there is no better service to be had in ANY restaurant, IMO. Young people who know how to act and treat customers well. Well staffed and speedy always. It really is amazing to see how quickly the drive-through line moves at the Chick-Fil-A north of Tinker AFB. Chick-Fil-A has created a culture for business that you will certainly never see in a McDonald’s. My son worked at another Chick-Fil-A for a time, and I thank the Lord he had that particular learning experience.

  • emptybucket

perhaps, I enjoy jokes and do not believe being politically correct has helped our society one little bit, as a matter of fact, as a result of being so dang politically correct many have developed thin skins where as before they laughed along…knowing funny is funny. We should all learn to laugh with each other.

I do not like mean spirited bigotted statements but “back into the closet” was comical – Now, to the truth of the matter, I am a Nazi at heart and am always looking for a chance to display my ignorance and bigotry, and know the trolls out there will find me quickly in order to exhort and edify regarding their very open and non-bigotted viewpoint. Except when it comes to Christians!

Homosexuality is a distraction, and yes it has become political Danno. What planet do you live on?? The president of the United States has decided we all must accept two men getting it on with each other as normal. Yeah, I’d say it’s political when the state you live in decides two men or two women can get married without even presenting it to the electorate. Would have been nice to have been given the opportunity to vote on it. Yeah, the issue is political.

I know we are not suppose to use the word homosexual anymore because it is hurtful. We must now say “gay” and all those other euphemisms to make sure we are not refering to what it actually is.

not political! Danno are you kidding?

Mainstream Media Invents Gay Marriage Chick-fil-A Controversy

“CNN and other left-friendly media outlets are running full speed with an erroneous story that brands the president of the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain a homophobe because he allegedly told a reporter he is ?guilty as charged? when it comes to his company being opposed to gay marriage, The Weekly Standard reported.

But the Chick-fil-A president, Dan Cathy, did not condemn gay marriage. CNN and other liberal outlets made their own leap from Cathy expressing support of the traditional family and Christian growth and ministry to making Cathy appear to be condemning gay marriage.

A review of the original interview shows he wasn?t even asked a question about gay marriage nor did he say he condemns it…

make donkeys out of themselves. All they are doing is showing yet again how intolerant they are towards anyone who happens to disagree with them.

Cathy is nationally recognized as one of the greatest CEO’s and businessmen in the country. The man spoke at my graduation and he is a brilliant leader. Every year they host a conference with various well-known leaders speaking about leadership principles. It is idiotic that anyone would boycott the business because Cathy supports traditional marriage.

The Jim Henderson company dropped it’s association with Chick-Fil-A, and donated all of the proceeds from its contract to GLAAD. CFA then recalled the Muppet toys.

Boston’s mayor Thomas Minino told CFA that it was unwelcome in the city (they had been searching for a new location?).

Alderman Joe Moreno blocked the planned expansion of a freestanding restaurant in his district in Chicago.

CFA’s PR guys might have created FB accounts to defend the company.

… in all reality, this is most likely mitigated by both Huckabee and Santorum calling for people to go out and eat at CFA in the next couple of days. So what they lose in terms of the Muppets, store blockings and PR moves, they’ll more than likely make up for it in extra revenue.

for 13 hours earlier this week. Now, I’m not a Huckabee fan, but I appreciate the promotion of a CFA Appreciation Day. I intended to post the info about the page to garfield earlier in the week, but couldn’t find it. At the time, I just wondered what happened to it. Now we know. Here’s a link to the FB page – Chick

Approximately 13 hours after deleting an online invitation from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee asking people to show support for Chick-fil-A on Aug. 1, Facebook restored the page around midnight Tuesday.

Before it vanished, nearly one million people had shared the invitation and 100,000 had said they?d be attending after Huckabee posted it on Monday.

?Yesterday, we mistakenly blocked an event as part of our spam prevention efforts and quickly worked to rectify the mistake as soon as we were notified,? Facebook told CitizenLink today in an emailed statement. ?Our policies are enforced by a team of reviewers in several offices across the globe. This team looks at hundreds of thousands of reports every week, and as you might expect, occasionally we make a mistake and block a piece of content we shouldn?t have. We have already taken steps to prevent this from happening in the future and we sincerely apologize for any convenience.?

Huckabee said that explanation was ?more thorough? than the one Facebook provided him on Tuesday; the company said it was a ?content? issue.

That ?was remarkable to us, because the content was not offensive,? Huckabee told CitizenLink. ?It was not asking anyone to do anything violent, unholy or unhealthy to anyone. It was simply expressing affirmation to the Chick-fil-A company. Interestingly, while that site was pulled down, the site that the militant homosexual groups had put up, which was Same-Sex Kiss Day to happen on Aug. 3 at Chick-fil-A restaurants, was left up.?

    The full story is here.
