MEMBER DIARY

From Hot Air, something that I was afraid of but was hoping those fears would be groundless.

According to what I read on Hotair.com, it looks as though we’re in serious trouble in the general if Romney is the nominee.  I had hoped that I was just imagining this and my fears of Romney’s integrity and chances of winning were groundless.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/04/16/on-second-thought-obama-52-romney-43/

If this is really legit (hopefully it isn’t), we’re in serious trouble.  This is why I didn’t want Romney to be our nominee.

I’m going to let people read the article themselves, i find the results of Obama leading Romney: 52 to 43, to be extremely scary.  As scary as I find Romney, Obama is even scarier.

I think part of the issue is due to the nature of the support:

Obama supporters are largely supporting Obama because he’s Obama.  Over seventy percent of his supporters are in that bracket.  Goes to show liberals often behave like mindless lemmings.

Romney’s support is mostly from people that just want to vote out Obama.  Over 60% of Romney’s “support” is merely the anyone but Obama vote.

So, either Romney has to convince a lot of people why they should support him, instead of merely being against Obama, we get a new candidate, he picks a very good VP (not sure that will happen, but it could), or we’re going to lose and lose badly.

While there is some hope, because Gallup has the situation flipped with Mitt Romney leading Obama, and the people the poll in the Hot Air article is from CNN (aka Clinton News Network, should probably be called LPN, or OPN), not to mention I generally don’t care for Polls.  However, the writer of the article in Hot Air thinks these numbers are a cause of concern.

Earlier today the same author made the following article:

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/04/16/first-gallup-2012-tracking-poll-romney-47-obama-45/

I much prefer Romney being ahead though not liking the fact it is within the margin of error.  Unfortunately the first link I gave is the most recent article.

I’m hoping my fears of the situation turn out to be unwarranted and that CNN pulled a bunch of numbers out of their behind.  Else, Romney needs to clean up his image fast or we need a new candidate, I don’t particularly want to see the Saul Alinski radical get 4 more years.

There is a possibility, that CNN just released a biased, poll.  It wouldn’t surprise me, because they are pro-Obama shills.  It also wouldn’t surprise me if they are releasing this because they are gloating, so I’m not sure whether or not the poll of Obama clobbering Romney is real or not.  A lot can happen, because there is a long way till November, but I don’t like the numbers starting out.

Statistically, that would make a skewed poll an outlier…and it would still be an outlier if Romney as +9. This isn’t necessarily indicative of “bias”, just flawed sampling (i.e. if they oversampled one region or party).

I like the numbers, actually…as they are fairly disturbing for the sitting president. Romney +3 = Obama loss because historically undecided voters will drift to the opponent in such an instance.

  • checkmate2012

thousands more to come and they can be scewed to favor any candidate they support. The polls that will start to matter are after Tampa when we have a confirmed Repulican candidate (see I didn’t name one- thought you’d appreciate that as you’ve been sparring again today and taking incoming!)

I’ll remain an optimistic as long as the polls stay close to 50-50 until September, b/c with Obama’s dismal record, he won’t win a second term.

    • garfieldjl

Obama supporters are largely supporting Obama because he’s Obama.

Romney’s support largely comes from the people that are against Obama.

This means an enthusiasm gap, for starters.

when we have one candidate to rally around. Has anyone seen a poll of Newt vs.Obama? That would be interesting but pollsters have counted him out and probably won’t spend $ on one.

I’m looking forward to the 4/24 primaries, no caucases, as an indicator of Newt’s support w/Santorum out (which I personally thought was his strategy to wait it out and go head to head wtih Romney). I know they are mostly Northern states but he should at least win or come close in PA and DE. We’ll see.

        Connecticut – 28
        Delaware – 17
        New York – 95
        Pennsylvania – 72
        Rhode Island – 19

Bu tI don’t think dissing the GOP/RNC is a smart move on his part as they won’t be back to support him IF he gets the nomination (which I’m done arguing that and will wait until Tampa).

  • Ender

in linking only 1 most favorable to Obama poll.

While this shows the 5 polls released since Santorum dropped out and Romney leading in 3 of them. This includes CNN btw.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

Thank you for your “worry” and the “concern”.

    • Ender

shows all 5 of those polls. Again thank you for your refreshing fear.

    • garfieldjl

I went with the information that was in the article, because if they thought it was a cause for concern, considering they’ve been pro-Romney for the entire primary, I considered there must be something in the poll, that has them worried.

You are right, that I don’t find CNN all that credible, but I was operating under the assumption that they’ve seen some other information that hasn’t been shared.

Furthermore, the really scary part which we see redstate.com, is that a lot of people that are saying the primary is over we have to support Romney, don’t really have a reason to do so. They are just focusing on voting against Obama, they largely are not pro-Romney.

While Carter wasn’t exactly popular when he was running for re-election, Reagan didn’t simply ride on the back of the anti-Carter vote. He won in a landslide by gaining people’s support they were voting FOR Reagan, not simply AGAINST Carter.

      • gekster

You don’t post like you believe it one bit.
Just going with your posting history here.

And obviously you havn’t read Reminton Steels diary.

        • garfieldjl

Seriously, I put up a diary as to why I support Gingrich, you’re telling me to support Romney, pretend I’m an independent for a minute, How would you make the case to an independent voter that he or she should vote FOR Romney?

I could easily give a list as to why to vote AGAINST Obama, heck there were some people back in 2008 that had reasons listed in alphabetical order.

You guys constantly mistake being against Romney as being pro-”He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named,” to borrow something from the Harry Potter series. Accusing me of being an Obamabot, doesn’t help unite people, it just further divides everyone. Comparing Newt supporters to Nazis (not saying you did this gekster, cause I know you weren’t the one whom did this), doesn’t help unite the party, it just ticks people off.

          • gekster

            I said I don’t support Romney.
I said I go with the Republican in the general.
At this point in time it is Romney.
You or anybody else cannot show how anyone else can beat Romney, aside from your wishfull thinking and hopes for a miricle, and jumbleing numbers that are not there.

And your constant bashing of Romney with hardly any postings in support of Gingrich is what is causing you grief.
I have said this more than once, but it just brings us back to your reading comprehension problem.
Try using it. I know it wouldn’t hurt.
You may have to actually think, but that in itsrlf might be another of your problems.

          • gekster

If you had used reading comprehension, you would have seen that I posted that our new friend started posting 1 minute after np49 was gone, and posting in support of him.
And if you were paying attention, you would have also seen that I said it was odd.

….since I joined the site over a year ago. I have no issues with you, gekster, But you must admit that a few of the members tend to be hard on newer folks.

I’ll bet this site would get 5 times the traffic if some of the members weren’t so hostile at times. I’m not going to mention names. They know who they are.

I’m no stranger to conflict on the internet. I’ve spent the past two years battling Rombots on the front page of rightspeak.net. I get beat up far worse there than I do here. The difference is, I don’t have to worry about being banned at Right Speak. Here, I kind of feel like I’m walking on eggshells with every comment. I agree that some moderation is needed, but it shouldn’t be that way.

          • gekster

It does have a tendency of weeding out the interlopers and trolls.
And I have explained to them why they are getting grief, as well as other longtime posters, and a few mods, and some just don’t listen.

If you had been here during the 2010 primaries, this would seam mild in comparison.
Sorry, but it is what it is.
And I think it will only get worse, as mobies will come in droves.
            They always seam to.
            I’ve seen it happen.

          • garfieldjl

            It involves:
            1. being bound and determined to prove polls wrong, and vote for Newt when your state is up for the primary, the Romney folks think it’s over so many of them will stay home.

            2. Talk to your neighbors about voting in the primary.

            3. MSM releases what they have on Romney within the next week or so, while we still have time to switch potential nominees.

That’s a rough outline, not saying it would be easy, but it can be done.

Yeah situation looks bad, but it doesn’t hurt to try anyways. We have nothing to lose really, and if nothing else it would make Romney well aware of the fact he better start addressing our concerns about him and not simply take us for granted.

Best case, we pull of an upset in the convention, and then we go one to kick Obama out of the WH in november, and watch the Establishment have panic attacks.

          • gekster

It sounds better than the constant Romney sucks.

          • APA Guy

The truth is, Romey doesn’t “suck”…he just isn’t our preferred candidate.

But you have to dance with the girl you bring to the ball…and Romney is our date to this election. If Newt pulled out the impossible, I would support him.

But when people tell me they “can’t vote for Romney…ever”…and Obama is on the other side of the ticket, you SCREAM troll.

  • Ender

Here you wrote an entire diary quoting only the CNN poll with deep concern and “fear” all based on the CNN POLL. But in my diary, quoting the same CNN poll with Romney leading Gingrich 57% to 19% you wrote:

We should care what a Clinton News Network Poll says why exactly?
garfieldjl (Diary) Monday, April 16th at 5:02PM EDT (link)
Granted they need to replace their C with an O, because they are now the Obama News Network.

  • SoFiMil

    I don’t like it either, but…

Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
Romney is going to be the nominee.
