Rick Perry’s brilliant debate strategy to appeal to the senior vote….

Well, everyone by now has seen or heard of Gov. Perry’s failue to recall the third federal government agency that he wants to eliminate.

It’s been termed a “brain freeze” a “brain fart,” “memory lock..” among others. But curiously, it’s not been called a “senior moment.”

But that’s exactly what it was…a “senior moment”, and a strategem brilliantly design to appeal to the seniors in the audience.

Seniors vote as a greater percentage of their age group than any other.  They pay attention. They volunteer. They donate.

And here’s Perry, reaching out to them, and saying..”see, I’m one of you. I once in a while lose my train of thought, forget  what I’m saying. It can happen to any of us.”

Well played, Rick..

You are SO right! I’m in my 40′s and that happens to me ALL the time. It physically hurt me to watch that, knowing it could have easily happened to me. Maybe he could pair up with Newt and all his brain research mumbo-jumbo (what kind of big government nonsense is he talking about???)

The Perry camp has at least played it well by sending out a self-deprecating email early this morning. I can’t find a link, so here’s the text of the email:

    …but, I’ve forgotten what it was…

I have a soft spot for Perry on this one. There have been times where I’ve been addressing a confab of folks, or trying to persuade a group, and I suddenly can’t remember a key word or phrase. I fumble around, and then, sometime later that week, I remember it. And I’m only 47. (or is it 48?). And, I know what was causing the hiccup: Both the “Energy” department and the “Education” department (-and the EPA) all start with the letter “E”, and I think he kept forgetting which one he’d already said. No, this in no way disqualifies the Governor.

(Reagan once quipped, by the way, that the good thing about Alzheimer’s disease was that he got to meet new people every day…)

LOL! I got over a decade on ya and am almost at the curmudgeon stage or so my younger wifey claims, but am diffenetly at the brain freeze stage. Wont forget to send a contribution to Perry on this one though. Now what was I sayin’?

I’m guessing Perry would like to be rid of all the Federal bureaucracies as a states rights guy. Probably someone advised him to cite three (works for debate short answer) since he looked down at a note. Seems everyone wants to marginalize Perry-the MSM and the establishment Republican Party. NOT.
He was asked few questions to make a come back. I fear he is taking pain killers to be able to stand two hours after back surgery.

It was painful to watch but I agree there will be major sympathy from baby boomers and above, without a doubt the largest block of voters.

Like you I stood before a crowd of 150 with orders to give an overview of a new product they knew better than I did. I could barely talk. Incredibly embarrassing.

While I make no apologies for my bare knuckles defence of my good governor. A few more like you would make me obsolete. You should definitely be a political consultant with a mind that beautiful
    . Well played sir…

It’s back to their playbook that Republicans are dull dolts. Maybe they’ll start focusing somewhat on the policy differences between the conservatives and Romney.
