MEMBER DIARY

If only certain members of the Senate and House possessed the wisdom and humility of Pope Benedict

Department of wishful thinking.....

The Holy Father has decided to step down from his office, because his abilities, due to an advanced age are no longer adequate to performing his ministry; that his duties require “strengths of both mind and body.”

If only some of our elected officials had possessed the wisdom and humility of His Holiness. Robert Byrd, Strom Thurmond, and Daniel Inouye come to mind. There have been many more.

And among those yet to “shuffle off this mortal coil,” but still in their own minds convinced of their own irreplacibility, are Frank Lautenberg, John Dingell, John Conyers, Ralph Hall, Charlie Rangel, Bill Young, Louise Slaughter, Sander Levin.

Dick Lugar stayed too long at the party. As did Daniel Akaka.

And Ruth Bader Ginsburg, while not elected, surely makes the list.

Gawkin….Humility…do you even believe that MOST people even have an idea of what it is? Everything is about Me…Me..Me. Let’s face it…the younger generation has been “conditioned”. That conditioning is the “normal” behavior to be expected. Therefore when someone with humility comes along…it is a completely foreign concept to them.

Isn’t the Pope chosen by God? Isn’t he in effect going against God’s will?

I have enough problems with politics, let alone religion. I am not a Catholic, but it is my understanding that they belief that God works his will through the votes of the Cardinals that elect the next pontiff. That works for me. As does the idea that God is working His will through Benedict’s self-recognition that his failing body prevents him from doing God’s will here on earth. Yup. Works for me, BIG time..
