MEMBER DIARY

What Conservatives Read First: The Morning Briefing. Today’s brief: February 22, 2013?? Hello??

The headline is taken from the home page.

Guys, what’s going on here? I mean, really.

I’m not posting this to be snarky, but rather to suggest that perhaps the new format/layout needs tweaking. Prior to the change, the “Morning Brief” was the first thing I looked at on the home page.

Now, it appears that nobody even bothers, let alone notices. ( including the editors/mods?) I’m the first to comment on this in a week?

And maybe that’s also why it seems than a great many superb diaries get ZERO comments. People just don’t go there anymore?

Again, not trying to take a cheap shot. I believe the Erick and the rest when they say that they studied it long and hard, and that there were many good reasons for the changes.

But we should also be willing to examine the impact of these changes.

I never go to the homepage so I hadn’t noticed. Still missing the old site. And I suspect you are right, since the change, member diaries are no longer a core aspect of RedState.

I do enjoy your daily watercooler diary..thanks

Agree – I miss the way we used to be able to “thumbs up” an article. I sometimes have limited time to read and I prefer to try to find the things that are deemed most important by the rest of the RS readers. Seems like now all I can find is which ones have the most comments – which does not necessarily correlate to the “best” or “most important” articles. There are lots of articles that are absolutely wonderful and I think everyone ought to read but I don’t have anything substantive (or don’t have time that day) to add in a comment. Would it be possible to add a star-rating of some kind that correlates to readers votes and will get an issue to the front page?

FYI, Erick has been busy dealing with this years Gathering.

Overall, RedState has seen more visitors since the site change, the drop in comments probably has more to do with the new comment system.

Each time we have gone through a site revamp there have been issues, yet the community has survived and thrived for the most part.

I know these issues can be frustrating, and I appreciate you writing this post to draw attention to an issue.

An aside, the email version of the Morning Briefing has been hitting my inbox daily, are you signed up to receive the email version, or do you rely on the site version? Either way is fine, I just want to know so I can let Erick and the others know.

    Thanks!

Aaron , thanks for the reply..I rely on the site version, because I visit RS daily..usually with my morning coffee..

Glad to know that the site has been getting more hits, but as you also noticed, the drop in comments is an issue. A “community” should encourage the exchange of ideas..we have to find a way to recapture that. Especially, as I noted, there are some very smart people posting diaries her.
