Now that Obama’s at the Vineyard, I can ask, why didn’t he vacation in Florida?
By: gawken (Diary) | August 18th at 11:02 AM |
I’ve been wondering about this ever since the vacation plans were announced. Martha’s Vineyard? It made NO sense whatsoever, for all the reasons that have been mentioned. I hesitated to post this before, lest someone actually suggest this to the WH (g) If Obama is serious about getting re-elected, then he HAS to win Florida. There is NO realistic electoral vote path to victory without | Read More »
Contemplating a scenario in which Obama decides NOT to run again
By: gawken (Diary) | August 16th at 01:57 PM |
It’s been a bad few weeks for Obama, ending with his first drop BELOW 40% in the approval ratings. He’s been taking hits from the left wing for months, of late with increased frequency and vitriol. Worse, he’s been the butt of jokes from the left wing. There’s even been some talk that he needs to have a primary opponent. Well, that’s just not going | Read More »
Should Rick Perry resign as governor of Texas to run for president?
By: gawken (Diary) | August 15th at 10:18 AM |
Watching Perry’s speech at the RedState gathering, I noticed that one of his biggest lines, the one that he seemed to really throw himself into, with a big grin, was “..when I decide to really do something, I go all in..” OK Governor, if we take you at your word, then why not resign as governor to run full time for the WH? I’m not | Read More »
Watch the clip of Nikki Haley speaking at RedState, and ask yourselves, right now, if your choice was between Palin and Haley, who would it be?
By: gawken (Diary) | August 14th at 03:28 PM |
First of all, let’s get one thing out of the way. If the GOP manages to once again shoot itself in the foot, be the Stupid Party one more time, and lose the WH, then Nikki Haley should be the odds on morning-line favorite for 2016. I am NOT suggesting that she should run now. No way. She has made a promise, a committment to | Read More »
What would we be saying today if Ron Paul had managed to bring two more busloads (153 voters) to Ames?
By: gawken (Diary) | August 14th at 12:02 PM |
I’m thrilled that Michelle Bachmann won the Iowa straw poll yesterday. Not because I’m already committed to her candidacy ( I’m not); rather, it’s because Ron Paul didn’t win. Think about it. Had Paul’s loyalists managed to drag 153 MORE supporters to Ames, it would be Ron Paul today doing the “Ginsburg tour” of all the Sunday talk shows, and we’d be seeing ad nauseum | Read More »
Memo to Pawlenty: The last presidential candidate to have his picture taken mowing a lawn was Mike Dukakis
By: gawken (Diary) | August 12th at 08:46 AM |
Note: I’ve search in vain for the pic, but no lick. Maybe someone else can find it and attach to this diary. The Dukakis campaign is best ( or perhaps “worst” is more appropriate) remembered for the following: 1. The picture of Mikey in the tank, with the ill fitting helmet atop his head. 2. The “Willie Horton” story 3. His response to the question of, | Read More »
Perry tells Mark Halperin that he wants to be president
By: gawken (Diary) | August 11th at 12:34 PM |
In advance of his speech at the Red State forum this Saturday, where he is widely expected to announce that he’s running for the WH, Rick Perry in a just-released interview with Time’s Mark Halperin, says that he “wants to be president.” OK, it’s not that we didn’t know that already. But consider..there are hundreds of political journalists who would have loved this “get”..the first big national | Read More »
$$$$ ain’t necessarily everything. If $8 million couldn’t buy a state senate seat in Wisconsin, can $ 1 BILLION buy the WH?
By: gawken (Diary) | August 10th at 09:49 AM |
Well, it’s GOOD news this morning. The Wisconsin GOP won 4 of the 6 seats on the recall ballot, and held the Senate, thus enabling Scott Walker to continue reforming the state government. It’s estimated that $15 million + was poured into the recall drive by the Dems, ( and that’s not counting the value of countless union boots on the ground.) The lion’s share, | Read More »
Thoughts on the crash in Afghanistan; and other equally sad dates we must never forget.
By: gawken (Diary) | August 8th at 04:08 PM |
It was a shock to awaken this weekend and learn of the helicopter crash in Afghanistan, and the loss of life of so many of America’s best and bravest. Death is inevitable in war, and I mourn, and pray for each and every American and their families, who has paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Here in Tampa, whenever possible I stand watch along the roadside with | Read More »
How many more Benedict Arnolds ( er..Ray LaHoods) are left in Congress?
By: gawken (Diary) | August 4th at 02:04 PM |
Primary is a verb. Never forget that. Watching the news this morning, we were treated to the spectacle of Transportation Secretary Ray La Hood totally carrying water for Obama and the Democrats. He can’t even be called a RINO anymore ..he’s so way past that. I’m not here to waste time complaining about LaHood’s incessant whining. Rather, we need to remember that this was a | Read More »
