On Secession

Occasionally, the topic comes up amongst groups that have an axe to grind with the Federal government, whether it was the South (in the Civil War), blue states (in the age of W.), or Red states (now). Most, if not all of the lamestreams are going to pooh-pooh such an idea, and in fact, even the bloviator, David Letterman, had a little riff the other night on the toothless, no-knowthing, bumpkins who would want to leave our wonderful social democracy.

First let me state and make the case brief case for my love of this country. My father served in WWII and my step-father served after Korea. Both of these men were powerful models of what a man must do for his country. I was a member of the Submarine Service having served on the USS Guardfish as member of the Engineering Department. After having left the Navy and staying away for 10 years, I went back as a Corpse-man for a reserve Marine Unit in N. California. My daughter joined the Air Force and became a Security Forces member in 2003. She was killed in Iraq in 2005 by an EFP, probably one of the first brought in or designed by Iran. I think my bona fides are soundly established.

I’ve almost always been a Conservative. Even before I knew the meaning of the word I argued with people about the failures of War on Poverty. We’ve destroyed the traditional meaning of the word family and caused the illegitimacy rate to skyrocket. Ironically, the main segments of society of that have been decimated by the democrats are the minority communities. I, as an Orthodox Jew, recognize the sanctity of life. And in that vein, I became an Orthodox Jew because my love for the beauty embodied by the Constitution of the United States brought me to recognize the root of that beauty bound in the Bible. I’d not be offended if someone said I wasn’t a Conservative, but I would laugh in their face.

Having established myself I want to implore anyone who believes that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution be repealed should take a specific course of action.
1) Do not believe that you will succeed by telling people that the US government is going to destroy you, your family, your state, or whatever. You’ll look like a tin-foil hat wearing moron. And you need the votes of these people to get it done.
2) Do not withhold your taxes from the IRS in the mistaken belief that the government does not have the right to levy said taxes. See tin-foil hat wearing moron above.
3) Do not listen to the naysayers. People have been sitting on the sidelines of every action taken by humanity since the dawn of time saying this or that can’t be done. It can and it will, it’s just a matter of how violent the changes will be.
4) Advocate for the secession of Hawaii first. Hawaii gets to go first because they have 2 Democrat senators who would never vote for Texas going first. Recognize that allowing one state to secede will mean that any state would eventually be allowed to leave the union.

Secession needs to be fair. It’s advocates have to recognize that doing this means taking on the inordinate amount of debt of each citizen in that state as determined by the federal government. A protectorate structure will have to be established and that might mean that money is still given to the US for military operations. There are plenty of other details, but if such an effort is to be successful, then both sides will need to see the benefits or at the very least the justice of such an effort.

For now we are Greece. I have taken a serious approach to this because I have been reading the efforts of people who I know to love this country, try to bring some sanity back into the world. Rioting will progress around the world as the dominoes fall, and they will fall here, too. Conservatives have an obligation to protect what they can from the surging tides of the masses who will attempt to take by force what they can not achieve by their votes.
